2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe To Be Auctioned At Mecum Monterey

The annual Monterey Car Week is set to kick off next month, once again bringing out some of the finest and most expensive automobiles on the face of the planet. Among the many festivities planned is a series of high-end automobile auctions, including the Mecum Monterey event, scheduled for August 15th through the 17th. The Mecum Monterey event boasts 600 vehicles and 100 motorcycles, all of which will be available to the highest bidder. Interestingly, among the priceless supercars and concours-level classics, we found this relatively benign 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe.

Of course, we aren’t throwing shade at G6 owners or their cars. It’s just that when we look over the Mecum Monterey 2024 catalog, this particular coupe is definitely an outlier. Other vehicles set to make an appearance at the auction include a C8.R Edition Corvette convertible, a ’70 Hemi Cuda, several C2 Corvette models, Paul Walker’s Chevy Camaro, and a supercharged, LS-powered ’57 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe.

Nevertheless, this 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe is still noteworthy as one of the cleaner examples we’ve seen. At just 30,000 miles, the odometer is pretty low for a 16-year-old car, and the overall condition appears to be quite nice, with photos revealing quality paint, polished wheels, and a pristine interior. No, it’s not a spicy GXP model with a 252-hp DOHC V6. Under the hood, this 2008 Pontiac G6 Coupe cradles the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 LZ4 engine rated at 219 horsepower, which mates to a four-speed automatic transmission.

The Pontiac brand was discontinued in 2010 following GM’s financial restructuring. However, an advertisement in a popular automotive magazine published this past May claiming that Pontiac was set to make its return caused quite a stir among enthusiasts, even though the advertisement proved to be little more than a joke. Even so, seeing this two-door at Mecum leads us to ask – is the humble G6 really a future classic?

  1. I wouldn’t call this a candidate for a future classic, but its platform-mate, the Malibu Maxx, might. We have a 2007 LTZ with under 50K miles and, if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s falling apart, I might keep it and bet on that. Will sell it this fall.

      1. It’s headed for the graveyard very soon because it needs $6K in repairs that aren’t worth it. But I have a good 30 left, you moron.

    1. “Future Classic” my arse. Not a chance. Plenty of Pontiacs are desirable, but this ain’t one of them.
