Paul Walker’s 1969 Chevy Camaro RS Z/28 Headed To Auction: Photos

Still a household name across the United States, Paul Walker captivated a great deal of folks through The Fast and the Furious franchise, and was instrumental in exposing countless of people to car culture in the 2000s. While many enthusiasts still grieve his passing, Walker’s legacy lives on through the people and cars he left behind, and now, his 1969 Chevy Camaro RS Z/28 will be headed to auction later this year.

Posted by Mecum Auctions, Paul Walker’s Camaro Z/28 will be crossing the block at Mecum Monterey 2024, which will take place from August 15th to August 17th, 2024. Interestingly, this Bow Tie muscle car is believed to have been one of Walker’s final projects.

Outside of Paul Walker’s ownership history, this 1969 Camaro Z/28 is notable in its own right. Starting with the exterior, the unique patina is hard to miss, as is the fading LeMans Blue paint job. As an RS, this Camaro also features a unique black-painted grille, concealed headlights and headlamp washers, and reverse lights mounted below the rear taillights. Additionally, this particular model does without a cowl hood and rear spoiler.

As for rollers, the original Z/28 Rally wheels are mounted on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. In the cabin, we find the black bucket seat interior, along with a Hurst shifter.

Moving to the drivetrain is where a 1969 Z/28 model truly shines. This numbers-matching example boasts the rev-happy DZ 302 cubic-inch V8 gasoline engine, which was designed for the race track. Output was rated at 290 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque back in 1969, although many believed that General Motors underrated this powerplant from the factory.

Power was delivered to the 12-bolt Positraction rear end through the M21 four-speed manual transmission. 3.73 gears are equipped as standard fare.

So, what do you think, dear reader? Can you see this 1969 Chevy Camaro RS Z/28 going for a pretty penny in August? Let us what you’re thinking in the comments section below.

  1. Had the same X33 car in garnet red. No spoilers or cowl hood but with deluxe interior. Built week 2 ’69. God do I wish I still had it.

    1. I have an early model (non ralley) totally restored with chambered exhaust added. Yea I’ll keep it unless I find a realistic priced COPO

  2. A good friend of mine bought one new in spring of ’69. Very similar to this one-Lemans Blue, black interior, white stripes, Rosewood wheel, RS, M22, 3.73 gears. He was 19 at the time and still owns the car.
The one pictured here is unusually original. The only thing I see that was changed is the alternator pulley. So likely the alternator was switched out at some point.

    1. Hey Smokefoot 55 Don’t know what you are looking at but the alternator is original to car#1100837 dated 8L27 and has the deep grove pulley! Thanks! Bill Fowler/ Solo Speed Shop

  11. My family once owned a lodging business many years ago and a middle aged fellow rented a room for several months. He was picked up daily by a construction firm to do road work engineering. It was 1971 and I was a young muscle car geek who frequently engaged in conversation with this fellow about his 69 Z-28. One day, he offered me the chance to take it out if I washed and waxed it. Of course, I jumped on the deal and it was memorable to say the least. When he returned from work that day, he was so pleased with the job that he offered me the keys whenever I felt like taking a spin. Unfortunately, my Dad insisted that I not drive it again for fear that I’d damage the car. So one and done but what’a car.

  15. The Z28 didn’t become the road racer it was until the 1970 Z28 hit the street.
I never understood the desire for the first gens when you could get twice the car in the first second-gen.
I raced many 1st gen Z28s on the street in Denver back in 1972…all they ever saw were my taillights!

    1. The z28 became a road racer when Chevrolet decided to create a 302 and help Team Penske in 1967. Chevrolet supported Penske and Donohue through the 67, 68 and 69 season of Trans-Am. Then Penske & Donohue switched to American Motors.

  19. I’m sure he had quite a few cars, I’m sure due to financial reasons his daughter has to start letting some go. I would expect Vin to there bidding on the car along with other people from the Hollywood and Car buffs. Hopefully she keeps atleast one vehicle of his. But for sure six figures because of who owned it. I think anyone that knew him would agree he was about as down to earth and genuinely a great guy which is rare in his line of work. Then take into account his sudden tragic death in a particular rare model of car known for killing their owners leaving an insiders car show or meet. If that was his favorite car he owned it longer than his other cars then 200k. If was just one of many cars he owned with no real history or importance to him then 100k maybe.

  25. Cool ass car , I would think this car will fetch 6 figures. My son just bought a 1973 T/A 455 4 speed all numbers matching for 20k. It’s amazing some of these cars made it this long without getting molested. That in itself is worth something.

  27. I know they stink because it’s a movie stars car that’s worth a lot of money to me it’s got to be restored and it’s not a cross ram 302 that may be a nice car what’s restored but without the cross rim I don’t know my cousin had a 67 375 horse with a special name oil which spend it was four and a quarter horse but it was a big block 67 do they have it then I would disease but the z would be sweet to own I don’t have that kind of money
