Watch A C8 Corvette Z06 Drag Race A Tesla Cybertruck: Video

The hard-charging Chevy C8 Corvette Z06 sports car was recently pitted against a Tesla Cybertruck in a quarter-mile drag race by Throttle House in a YouTube video, with the two swift vehicles going head-to-head three times during the 8-minute, 24-second runtime.

The Chevy Corvette Z06 used in the race develops 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while the Cybertruck contender – a Cyberbeast variant – produces 845 horsepower and a claimed 10,296 pound-feet of torque. This, however, is wheel torque rather than engine torque like most automakers report – though for the sake of comparison, the GMC Hummer EV is rated at up to 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque.

The Cybertruck features a triple electric motor setup providing AWD and boasts a 6,843-pound curb weight, while the Chevy Corvette Z06 is RWD and weighs in at 3,500 pounds. After a brief comparison and some banter, the first drag race kicks off, with the Cybertruck blasting far ahead of the Z06 in the first few seconds. The Vette gradually catches up to the streaking Tesla, but is still second over the finish line by a few vehicle lengths.

During the second race, the Corvette Z06 catches up slightly faster, but is still handily defeated by the Cybertruck with somewhat less lead. Finally, the vehicles are pitted against each other in a roll race, with both moving at a lower speed at the start rather than beginning at a standstill. The Z06 finally gets the chance to stretch its legs and rockets past the Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck, like other powerful EVs, is a drag racing monster because its electric motors can develop instant torque, rather than needing to build the torque up like an ICE vehicle. This instant acceleration gives them a significant advantage in the quarter-mile. Tesla’s strange-looking pickup – described as a “Viking refrigerator” in the video – is still rare on the streets, with one example spotted a few weeks ago in California.

Meanwhile, the Chevy Corvette C8 Z06 still has significant advantages of its own in performance compared to the Cybertruck. It offers better aerodynamics and much lighter weight, both of which along with other design features help to give it considerably better handling.

As GM Authority reported, the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 is faster than most modern performance vehicles, outpacing even the famous Lamborghini Huracán EVO, at a fraction of their price. We’ve also shared a video in which the 2023 C8 Vette beat the C5, C6, and C7 Z06 models with its massive engine output.

You can watch the full head-to-head contest of the Vette and Tesla here:

The Corvette E-Ray which adds a front-axle electric motor for high initial torque and all-wheel traction, can beat the Z06 over the quarter-mile, much like the Cybertruck, as underlined by Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter when he took the vehicle for a spin with car enthusiast Jay Leno. Beyond the quarter-mile, though, the Z06 dominates again, with the E-Ray slotting between it and the C8 Corvette Stingray.

  2. As a former professional drag racer this event means nothing. Where do we start. RWD vs AWD. 3 electric motors vs 1 ice engine. What about 1/2 mile or 1 mile race? How about top speed? Braking distance? Lastly how about a road race? Forgot one. How about a ugly contest? The Tesla wins that hands down!🤣

    1. How does it mean nothing – it was a 1/4 mile race with street conditions one experiences in the wild, the same conditions these vehicles will be on 99.99% of the time and where the vast majority of amateur races will occur. The bottom line is that the C8 can’t put the power down unless its on a sticky track despite the massive weight and HP/Lb ratio advantages it possesses. The E-Ray is only 1/10 of a second faster than the Z06 on the track, but in the wild, it will be reliably quicker and should be able to beat the CT. But it is still is no match for the Model S Plaid (track pack), even in the 1/2 mile (180.62MPH, 15.04s) or top end (203 MPH). However, the C8 Z06 is the superior track car with an impressive sub 7 minute Nürburgring time.

Come back in 5 years at the boneyard or field as most will be. 0-60 won’t matter.

  3. Tesla has total control of all vehicles. Any where anytime . In near future traffic laws will be applied directly to the vehicle and how fast it is won’t be an issue.

As an added benefit We will be able to reduce the number of police officers (traffic cops) and do away with the clutter of road signs

  5. Ironically, I bet the Vette will go through SNOW much easier, even with RWD.

  6. What dumb luck for the truck, the Corvette needed better traction to take better part of the action. Hands down the Vette will take the crown and never get you STUCK! …and that is not pot luck.
Have a nice day everyone, once and done.

  7. If GM decided to produce a fully electric E-Ray, it can beat the Cybertruck every time.
