When the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 debuts, Chevy says it will “put the world on notice” with its high-revving, flat-plane crank V8 engine, aggressive looks, light-weight components, and higher levels of performance aimed at all-out track capability.
GM Authority expects the Corvette C8 Z06 to use a 5.5-liter engine dubbed the LT6, which could have an output of more than 600 horsepower and nearly 500 pound-feet of torque, plus a redline as high as 9,000 rpm and a Ferrari-like exhaust note. Notably, the new engine is expected to be paired with the same eight-speed dual-clutch transmission used by the C8 Corvette Stingray.
We were given an official preview of the engine courtesy of the Corvette C8.R competition vehicle. Chevy has since released yet another sound preview, this time of the production 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 model.
When it comes to suspension, Magnetic Ride Control is expected to be standard, and DSSV dampers might be offered as an option. Wider wheels and tires along with and upgraded braking system are also expected to help push the performance envelope of the C8 Z06.
Similar to the C7 Z06, the C8 Z06 is expected to have a wide-body design compared to the C8 Stingray along with aerodynamic package(s). To that end, GM Authority was first to exclusively report that a relatively large, unique rear wing will part of an optional aero package.
Like the C8 Stingray, the C8 Z06 will be available in two body styles:
- A two-door coupe with a removable hard top panel
- A two-door convertible with a retractable hardtop
On the inside, the same general cockpit design is expected, though it may be garnished with a few unique Z06 accents. Additionally, Chevrolet might offer unique, track-focused seats for the Z06, with even more bolstering than the GT2 / Competition buckets. There’s also the possibility that a factory racing harness system could be offered.
