4. Sierra AT4 rated at 6,600 pounds / 2,994 kilograms.

Looking over the numbers, we find that tow ratings are quite similar to those of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, with small adjustments here and there. The maximum Big Red’s full-size pickup can pull with a ball hitch is 13,300 pounds when equipped with the 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine in Double Cab, Standard Bed configuration. Meanwhile, the maximum tow weight with a 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch is 9,700 pounds, achieved with the 5.3L V8 L84 in Regular Cab, Long Bed configuration.

It’s worth noting that the Max Trailering Package (RPO code NHT) is required to achieve both these ratings.

As a reminder, production of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 kicked off in July 2023 at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico. Under the skin, the Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500.

  1. I find it to be odd that the max tow ratings are less for fifth wheel or gooseneck are lower than the ball hitch setup. On top of that, they don’t even offer the diesel in the regular cab configuration. So much for being able to order a truck the way you want it anymore!

    1. Agree, I would order a regular cab long bed with the diesel tomorrow if available.

    2. Pin weight. A gooseneck generally has more weight pushing down directly over the rear axle with little to no weight distribution. 1/2 tons have pansy axles.

A conventional tow can be higher because of weight distribution hitches to redistribute the tongue weight.

  2. who would want to pull 13,300lbs on a rear ball. When the gooseneck pulls so much better. and you can even the weight out.
