As GM Authority reported back in July 2023, many owners of the 2023 Chevy Colorado were stating that their batteries were being quickly drained following an over-the-air (OTA) update. Now, General Motors has released a new Service Update intended to fix this inconvenience.
Tagged with N232411313, this Service Update is designed for 2023 Colorado units that may have experienced a low or discharged battery after accepting an OTA update. To remedy this, certified GM technicians are to inspect affected vehicles and reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Serial Data Gateway Module as necessary.
It’s worth noting that it should take techs a little more than an hour to perform this fix.
For reference, the root cause behind this issue was believed to be a failed software update that leaves the infotainment system running, thus draining the battery until it’s dead. In fact, one person claimed online that the radio gets accidentally locked in recovery mode, and that turning off both the “download updates in the background” and “download updates via Wi-Fi when available” options will help prevent an OTA update and thus save the pickup’s battery.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado was offered with one of two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which produces either 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, or 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, depending on the tune.
Output is directed to either 2WD or 4WD through the updated variant of GM’s eight-speed automatic.
In regard to structure, the third-generation Colorado rides on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

the hardest part is getting GM to acknowledge and take responsibility for the OTA issues.
My 2021Corvette suffered from an OTA update that did this exact same thing, but GM refuses to accept and support the problem in the new Corvette. At least truck owners get some relief.
My Corvette was left stranded, locked closed with a battery that could not be charged again, it was destroyed, this was before it was two years old. I personally paid $200 for a battery, lost out on my Saturday might date, and my claim for reimbursement was rejected by GM.
It left a pretty bad feeling for me. Not a fan of poorly executed software mistakes.
The last generation Colorado 8 speed tranny is good for about 70,000 miles unless you are lucky.
This Dad Battery Issue Is Not Exclusive to the 2023 Model Colorado as is seems to be only mentioned! I have a 2022 Colorado and My Colorado has now had this Issue 2 Times once in March 2024 and again This Week April 2024! Sad part is I had in to my Dealer and They Could Not Find Anything Wrong They did a Battery Load test as well as Checking for Software Updates and all were to be Up to Date. SO Now I will Need tobring this Update Fix to my Dealer But because it has Only Been reported about the 2023 Model Year It wull be Diffcult to Get This Corrected! Sad when You need a Reliable Truck and Have this. GM Should Stop doing These OTA’s and Allow It to Only Happen when and If you take your Vehicle into the Dealer. As I have owned this Truck for 16 Months and only has 17.5 K Mileage so They Had to have Done an OTA Recently Maybe Feb 2024 and Now Causing This Dead Battery ISSUE! Can’t test driving in and Getting Stranded!!! Hope They Find the FIX!!! SOON!!!
Same problem with my 2022 Chevy Colorado z71 dealer checked system said everything’s fine. Guess what battery dead after 2-3 days of no use.
Great technology, they can download software updates but cannot fix the bugs with a download. Have to go to an old fashioned dealer.
