2024 Chevy Silverado MD Work Truck Gets Optional Infotainment System Again

Back in August 2023, GM Authority reported that the optional infotainment system for the Chevy Silverado MD was under constraint and unavailable for order. Now, an infotainment system upgrade is available once again on the Work Truck, or 1WT, trim level.

Normally, the 1WT trim is equipped with the audio system with 4.2-inch color display (RPO code IO3), while the single-slot CD/MP3 player (RPO code TG5) is available as an option. Now, the Chevrolet Infotainment System with eight-inch touchscreen (RPO code IO5) is offered as an upgrade over the IO3 system.

It’s worth noting that the IO5 and TG5 options are equipped as standard fare on the 1LT trim.

When optioning the IO5 system, the workhorse Silverado MD now features (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • Bluetooth streaming audio for music and select phones.
  • Two USB ports instead of one.
  • Voice-activated technology for radio and phone.
  • Ability to browse and install apps including Pandora, iHeartRadio, The Weather Channel and more.
  • Regular Cab units get the six-speaker audio system (UQ3) instead of the base four-speaker system (UQ5)
  • Single-slot CD/MP3 player (TG5).
  • Driver Information Center with 4.2-inch color display (UDD) instead of base Driver Information Center with 3.5-inch monochromatic display (UDC).

Notably, the Chevrolet Infotainment System with seven-inch touchscreen (RPO code IOB) is gone for the 2024 model year. Previously, this option was offered on the 1WT trim level. Essentially, the IO5 option replaces the IOB option as the audio system upgrade.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado MD is equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque, as standard fare. Meanwhile, an Allison six-speed automatic transmission directs output to the wheels, while both 2WD and 4WD configurations are available.

In regard to structure, the Silverado MD rides on a platform jointly developed by Navistar and GM. Assembly takes place at the Navistar plant located in Springfield, Ohio.

  1. Glad it’s optional, please don’t push that expensive unneeded stuff on more people who don’t want it.
