The 2023 GMC Canyon Can Be Equipped With These Black Badges

General Motors debuted the all-new third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon last August, showing off a long list of changes and upgrades, including new styling, an overhauled cabin, a new powertrain, and the latest tech features. Notably, 2023 GMC Canyon customers can spec their pickup with a range of custom styling bits. That includes new black badging, as detailed here.

Optional black badging for the 2023 GMC Canyon.

Called simply Black badges, this feature is tagged with RPO code RIK, and is priced at $195 on the official 2023 GMC Canyon online configurator. The Black badges option is available for 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation, AT4, AT4X, and Denali trim levels. In addition to being optional for all of the 2023 GMC Canyon trim levels, the Black badges feature is also included with the Denali Black Edition package, which is tagged with RPO code PCR and is priced at $3,495.

Meanwhile, the Canyon’s optional black logo badges for the grille and tailgate are not listed in the official online configurator, but can be found at the GMC accessories website for $170.

We recently got an opportunity to drive all four trim levels of the new 2023 GMC Canyon, and walked away impressed by the truck as a whole. Check out GM Authority’s First Drive Review and video for more information.

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon features a new design characterized by LED exterior lighting and improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, while in the overhauled cabin, the pickup is equipped as standard with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster for Elevation and AT4 trim levels, and an 11-inch instrument cluster for Denali and AT4X trim levels.

Motivation is derived from the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, specifically the 2.7L Turbo High Output variant, which is rated as standard at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are available to put the power down. An updated version of the GMT 31XX platform provides the bones, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. I don’t want black badges. I want my brand to be seen, not blacked out.

    1. My High Country is pearl tricolor white with blacked out badges including Duramax on the hood, but all the chrome and stainless up front and on the exterior mirrors. I get compliments all the time, and love it!!!

  2. Trucks are not readily available . My truck sits at the factory. I didn’t order anything special on my Denali. I can’t imagine how long you would wait for anything special. Worst roll out ever They build them, stack them up, age them and contract out the shipping. The longer I wait the more inclined I am to wait till they have some on the dealer lots or just order a 2024.

    1. You ordered a DENALI which has pretty much every option, so you did order something special. You ordered a new vehicle during these times of a brand new redesigned truck when there are still issues with features and especially staffing and shipping, that is on you. No need to complain. your truck isn’t getting more miles put on it, shipping is a very time consuming process and if your truck misses it then it has to wait. No one to blame but yourself. GM wants you to have your truck so they get paid, they are doing everything they can, but they aren’t going to book a special transport just for your truck, nor are they going to stuff the production in the long line if they can produce it with an easy to add chip later before sending and have it sit for a few months (which doesn’t cause any problems). So again, patient, you could have waiting a year or two but you had to have the brad new first in the neighborhood Denali truck and are complaining that you can’t now…

  3. This is the BIGGEST SCAM GM has pulled off. GM is becoming the absolute worst product in this global market. How can they keep lying to the consumer. What a terrible way to treat loyal people.

    1. What scam? Worst product? It is reviewing very well. How are they lying to customers? If you are talking about the shipping they are doing everything they can to get them out short of sending each persons truck on its one special journey. People who bought know what environment we are in, it is on them. The pandemic played with some many issues and we still have logistic issues with transporting, staffing and parts. They want the buyer to have the truck so they get paid. This isn’t some conspiracy… Some people are just so entitled, they brought this on themselves…

  4. Another fluff article about a truck that is having some very serious rollout issues. I am beginning to think that the writers on this forum are intentionally publishing this stuff to get clicks and responses from angry customers.

    1. Serious roll out issues? People are getting their trucks, they were held up by the EPA and transportation logistics, not exactly a serious problem. Some have to wait a little longer, most aren’t nearly as delayed. Just because you hear of a few people on here say they have been waiting longer than they should, it doesn’t mean there is a serious issue. Many people on the forums have gotten theirs in reasonable time frames. The few vocal ones are in the minority, so lets not make a mounting out of a mole hill. 1. So why doesn’t GM be forthright about the situation and tell the customer what is actually going on with their vehicle? Not relaying information to them is the biggest problem, and has been all along. I personally deserted my order and bought the High Country I have now, not exactly what I wanted, but very close.

  6. When will they be shipping them ?

    1. They have been, many people already have them…

      1. I have had mine on order since 2/3/23 and still don’t have a build date. Southwest Florida has not had one delivered to a dealership. The EPA answer I find a little hard to digest seeing how this is not a new engine configuration as it has been used in prior years. I spent the last 10 years working at Flint Assembly before retiring. I fully understand assembly problems and new vehicle model changes better than the general public. If you have a yard full of assembled vehicles and no one to deliver, this shows that someone should have been fired because the assembly plant had a known date for production startup. The other reason is they are all missing one or two components due to a supplier problem and the parts needs to be installed before they can be shipped. Non delivered vehicles are a debit GM has to carry if they are not being sold, no company lasts for long with that issue.

  7. Styling has improved in my subjective opinion, but the GM midsize is now something I would not consider. They are only offered in the tiny bed configuration, which is completely useless to me. And I’m not buying a trailer to haul something that fits in my current truck.
