The 2025 Chevy Equinox was just spotted undergoing testing as a camo-clad prototype, giving us yet another early look at the next-generation crossover.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the new 2025 Chevy Equinox out and about as a prototype. Per recent GM Authority coverage, a series of spy photos published in September depicting a camouflaged crossover have now been confirmed as showing the new ‘Nox, providing us with a separate point of reference for the upcoming generational overhaul.
Although the new prototype featured here is covered in a rather extensive body wrap and loads of black vinyl, there are still a few noteworthy items to point out. The front end, for example, looks as though it will introduce heavy revisions in the form of new lighting and a completely reworked fascia, with thin lighting signatures in the upper corners of the fascia, as well as prominent forward-facing lighting elements mounted lower in the fascia.
The profile view reveals a tall, tough-looking stance, as well as a pair of roof rails. In the corners there are two-tone wheels, while a roof spoiler lip is seen bulging out from the top of the hatch in back.
Finally, the rear end shows off placeholder lighting for the tail lamps arranged in a horizontal layout. Twin outboard exhaust pipes are mounted under a diffuser-style rear bumper treatment.
Per a recent GM Authority exclusive, the next-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox may offer a new Activ trim level, introducing a more rugged, off-road flavor akin to Activ trims for the Chevy Trailblazer and Chevy Trax. Upgrades could include beefier suspension, General Grabber AT tires, a tucked-under exhaust, and a modified rear fascia.
In a presentation given at the recent GM Investor Day event, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed that GM was indeed working towards the launch of the next-generation Chevy Equinox for the 2024 calendar year.
For now, the Chevy Equinox features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, while the GM D2 platform provides the underpinnings. Production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and GM San Luis Potosi plant, both of which are in Mexico.

Interesting…this prototype is sporting dual exhaust. That was previously only used on 2nd Gen V6 models and 3rd Gen 2.0T models. Perhaps there is a power bump coming? Unless they are going to put the 1.3L 3cyl in it…which would be unfortunate.
Love our 2.0 and 9 speed transmission. Won’t go back to the 6 speed.
We love our 2019 Equinox with the 2’0 turbo engine, Zero problems , great Gas mileage. 2,0 surprises a lot of people,
Seems to have gotten beefier in appearance similar to the Honda CR-V.
With this and the very different Equinox EV going on sale at the same time, I guess we can technically consider Equinox its own sub-brand.
Lol
From a branding standpoint, I don’t understand why the combustible Equinox prototype looks like a totally different SUV compared to the EV. Why would Chevrolet have 2 distinct vehicle designs that share the same model name?
Looks like a mini GMC Acadia?
I was also gonna say it kinda looks like a GMC terrain.
Agree, the body is more squared off , more truck like , it looks like a facelifted Terrain more than a chevy.
Given the success of the TB, I think the styling and the introduction of the Activ trim will be good. The 2 exhausts , hopefully will see a bump in power over 200hp.
I think its smart to separate the EV and Ice vehicles so that the engineering for both takes advantages of their motivation systems , rather than taking an ICE platform and retrofitting it to electric.
I’m excited for the next 2 years, lots of new ICE vehicles and the explosion of electric vehicles available , there will be a choice and GM vehicle for almost everyone!!
That’s so small …
Yup, that’s what she said.
Something looks… off. Might just be my eyes/opinion, but with that big of a nose, I think another 2-3″ in the rear would really enhance the side profile (that’s what she said). Why does it make the wheelbase look incredibly long for a mid-size(ish) crossover? Looks like a 17-23 Acadia with its @$$ lopped off.
Either make the Blazer a BLAZER and make the ‘Nox the 17-23 Acadia-ish unibody crossover, or stop trying to make them all the F’N same. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
Let’s start seeing the next gen ICE Blazer soon!
Should be interesting the masked up equinox revealing dual exhaust are they going to put a 2.0 l engine like they were suppose to do in 2021 and instead gave us the 1.5 or they even going to go smaller and install the 1.3 in the new equinox or just keep us guessing?????????
Look at the prototype rear roof side profile….it is not slanted down as much as the current 2020-2023 Equinox vehicles. This also gives the rear tail light section a slightly higher profile as well. I love the Chevy Equinox, I own a 2020, but I have always thought that the rear roof slant was a little too much, giving the vehicle a bit of a “cut-off” look, even a bit wimpy in the rear…as opposed to the front 3/4 of the vehicle, which looks great and has attitude! Check out the slant of the current Toyota RAV 4…there’s a reason it’s #1 in sales (besides the Toyota “halo”). The rear roof slant of the RAV 4 is less than the current Equinox–subtle, about 2″–but raises the whole rear profile and gives it a much stronger look. This 2025 Equinox rear roof profile–and corresponding tail light height–looks very much like the RAV 4….I’m thrilled!
Agree – the droopy behind look is really a turn off. Hard to tell tell w/ the camo but I am keeping my fingers crossed!
It’s not looking too shabby, could be pretty nice.
Needs the 2.0-liter turbo four to make it viable against its competitors.
This is needed now, not in late 2024. The Equinox isn’t even part of any serious CUV conversations these days.
