This Prototype Is Actually The Next-Gen 2025 Chevy Equinox

The black-and-white camo-clad prototype you see here is the next-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox, GM Authority has learned.

Regular GM Authority readers may recognize these photos, given GM Authority has published them previously with speculation that it may be either the new Chevy Trax or possibly the next-generation Chevy Trailblazer. Now, however, GM Authority has confirmed from sources close to the matter that this prototype is in fact the next-generation Chevy Equinox.

At present, details on the next-generation Chevy Equinox remain somewhat sparse. That said, we do know that the upcoming crossover will launch at the end of the 2024 calendar year for the 2025 model year.

Looking over the photos, it’s also more than obvious that the 2025 Chevy Equinox will introduce brand new exterior styling. Although this particular example is fitted with placeholder lighting, we find the front fascia will incorporate thin upper lighting signatures paired with primary lighting elements mounted lower in the fascia adjacent to the central grille. This setup is similar to that of the next-generation 2024 Chevy Trax, as well as the current Chevy Trailblazer, thus continuing Chevrolet’s latest design cues.

During the recent GM Investors Day event, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed that the next-gen 2025 Chevy Equinox is indeed on the way. Currently, sales for the crossover are showing strength, with the Equinox slotting in at third in the mainstream compact crossover segment in terms of sales volume for the third quarter of the 2022 calendar year with 46,646 units sold.

For now, the current Chevy Equinox cradles the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Underneath the body panels, the Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, with production taking place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and GM San Luis Potosi plant, both of which are located in Mexico.

  1. Seems the design is more conservative compared to the swoopy lines on the Equinox EV.

    1. I don’t know yet if I’d call it conservative. It is certainly completely different than the EV equinox, which is interesting.

    2. It’s probably going to mimic the Equinox EV styling quite a bit. Which is a good thing, IMO.

      1. It doesn’t look that way to me at all.

  2. 1. Props to prior comment sections who called this.

    2. It looks like we should expect a lot of cladding.

    1. Common sense told us it was to big to be the Trax. Also we’ve learned to take info posted on this site with a grain of salt more so as of late.

    2. Mark: Your number 2 seems to be correct. One of the things I actually like about the current Equinox is that it has less black plastic cladding than most (only along the bottom and not the wheels). Sadly, this seems to indicate that it will have a ton of that junk.

      1. Toney…

Have you seen the new Trax? It has grown by over a foot in length alone. Does your “common sense” meter not apply to that?

And please tell me what reasons you have for taking “info posted on this site with a grain of salt more so as of late”. I read GMA every day and they are spot on about 99% of what they report on. Sounds to me like you’re a trolling hater with nothing better to do than rip on the good work that the people here are doing. Is that what you are Toney?

        1. The proportions are what indicated it was the equinox, not length alone. While the Trax is longer, it looks like a lifted car.

        2. Lol at the hater part and previously this site use to be the source others used for GM news now that’s way far from the truth and like others have said we used our common sense to know that wasn’t the trax. I can’t remember off hand which other prototypes were completely wrong but it’s becoming a trend for sure.

  3. Thank God they got rid of the blobby ass egg shape of the current generation. A step in the right direction

  4. Looks more like the next generation GMC Terrain.

    1. Yeah, there may be less differentiation for the next gen.

    2. Well yes that makes sense knowing the terrain is gmcs version of the equinox Smh

  5. Glad to see they are confirming this is the new ICE Equinox. It looks more like the current Trailblazer in profile , a little like the current GMC Terrain.
I have a current 2020 Nox Mid-night with 2.0l and AWD . Its a great car and the 2.0L engine is alot of fun to drive with the 9 spd
I heard that there will be an Activ model for the new Equinox. This will be interesting and in the prototype I see dual exist outlets which may indicate more power that the current 1.5L
This is all great news, I would like to see an Activ with a 200hp 1.5 and the 9 spd !
The Terrain will be updated as well and we are hearing it will have a more truck like appearance which is also great news.
The chevy strategy is becoming clearer, the new Trax is for those who want SUV characteristics , in a car like vehicle and the TraiIblazer and Equinox will adopt more of a truck like appearance with some mild gravel road abilities.
The fly in all of this is, do they have the chips to produce enough vehicles to meet the demand???
Sadly today they do not !!

ike to see the Activ trim , a 200hp

  8. I’m getting over the trend of LED strips just under the hood and headlights being built into the bumper… How the heck does one change the light bulbs without having to take apart half the car? Ya it looks cool but spending $500 to replace a $50 bulb is bs

  9. Look at the prototype rear roof side profile….it is not slanted down as much as the current 2020-2023 Equinox vehicles. This also gives the rear tail light section a slightly higher profile as well. I love the Chevy Equinox, I own a 2020, but I have always thought that the rear roof slant was a little too much, giving the vehicle a bit of a “cut-off” look, even a bit wimpy in the rear…as opposed to the front 3/4 of the vehicle, which looks great and has attitude! Check out the slant of the current Toyota RAV 4…there’s a reason it’s #1 in sales (besides the Toyota “halo”). The rear roof slant of the RAV 4 is less than the current Equinox–subtle, about 2″–but raises the whole rear profile and gives it a much stronger look. This 2025 Equinox rear roof profile–and corresponding tail light height–looks very much like the RAV 4….I’m thrilled!
