GM has issued a recall for the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV over noncompliant daytime running lights, otherwise known as DRLs.
The problem: GM has determined that certain units of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV do not conform to the Federal / Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (F/CMVSS) No. 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.” Essentially, the DRLs remain on when the headlamps are turned on.
The hazards: if the DRLs do not deactivate when the primary headlamps are switched on, the resulting glare may increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: to address this issue, GM will update the onboard vehicle software in affected units’ Body Control Module (BCM). This fix may be performed through a dealer repair or through an over-the-air (OTA) programming update.
Affected components: vehicle DRLs.
Affected vehicles:
- 2021 Cadillac Escalade
- 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV
Number of affected vehicles: it is unknown at this time how many units of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV are affected by this recall. However, 338,735 units of the Escalade, the Chevy Tahoe, the Chevy Suburban and the GMC Yukon have been earmarked for the recall work.
Owners should: GM will notify 2021 Cadillac Escalade and 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV owners affected by this recall and provide instructions on how best to proceed. Unsold vehicles affected by this recall will be placed on a stop-sale order until the necessary repairs are completed. The Escalade is about the worst for night time blinding glare. I hate them.
So tint your windshield and stop whining.
