2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Units Built Without Functional Power Outlets

As the fourth model year for the fourth-generation pickup, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces a few important changes compared to the fully refreshed 2022 model year. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that some units of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 are being built without functional power outlets.

According to sources familiar with the matter, units of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 are being built without functional power outlets as of September 19th production. This latest constraint affects two features of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, specifically the 120-volt instrument panel power outlet (RPO code KI4) and the 120-volt bed-mounted power outlet (RPO code KC9). Although affected units do include the physical installation of the affected features, the actual outlets are non-functional.

Units of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 affected by this constraint are indicated as such by the window sticker, which will include RPO code 08R. Going forward, affected units will be eligible for an eventual dealer retrofit to make the features functional, although it’s unclear at this time if customers who purchase an affected vehicle will receive a purchase credit for the inconvenience.

Trim levels of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 affected by this constraint include SLE and Elevation. Meanwhile, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trims are not affected by this constraint.

Notably, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 also introduces the new LZ0 Duramax engine to the powertrain lineup. The new LZ0 engine could be considered the “second iteration” of GM’s Duramax 3.0L six-cylinder configuration, with the LM2 engine offered previously considered the first.

Further powerplant options include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine. Under the body panels, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 once again rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.

  1. It’s comical at this point how you separate the Silverado and Sierra posts just to make it look like you are producing more content. We all know they come out of the same plants so if one truck isn’t getting a certain feature it stands to reason they are not including it in the other truck.

  6. I have a great solution to all this madness. How about people stop buying new vehicles. The fact that people are paying full price or over MSRP truly show how ignorant people are these days. Fix your old vehicle. Drive it for another year, then WAIT for prices to go down. It’s common sense. The big corporations are doing this too us and we are just “sheep” following in line.

I bought a brand new truck in 2020 before all this madness set in, I just sold that same truck at end of July for what I paid for it 2 years prior. I didn’t go out and buy another over priced, half finished truck. I am educated/smart enough to realize this inflation will not last. It can’t! People can’t afford it, and the Credit Card debt right now is the highest it’s ever been, along with vehicle loans being the longest and highest they have ever been!!

I went out and bought a 98 Silverado in clean condition, I have to say that it drives and rides better than my 2019 High Country with the 6.2L. Now I agree It’s not quieter, is way less powerful and efficient, but I have no payment, and am truly embarrassed how GM has not improved on their V8 power plants since 2014!!!!

Stop paying these outlandish prices and we will see pressure put back onto the big corporations, better quality built trucks, the return of big rebates, and lower interest rates!!!

  7. After receiving my Elevation in August maybe I will sell it off for parts. The Google installed is a nightmare and I can’t run my USB thumb drive with music using voice like I could in a 2015, 2016, and 2021. I can access music through the screen while parked but once you start driving it locks the scrolling down to 8 items. Maybe they should have put CD players in, or 8 tracks 🙂
