The 2022 Buick Encore is the tenth model year for the first-generation nameplate, introducing only a few small changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year. Notably, Consumer Reports recently recognized the 2022 Buick Encore as a top-rated luxury vehicle.
As a Consumer Reports top-rated luxury vehicle, the 2022 Buick Encore managed to secure a high CR Overall Score, which takes into account a variety of different factors. Among these is road-test performance, as evaluated at Consumer Reports’ 327-acre test facility, reliability survey results, as informed by Consumer Reports members, owner satisfaction survey results, which are based on the percentage of owners who say they would definitely buy the same car again, and finally, safety tests and equipment, as determined by government and insurance industry testing, as well as equipped safety features.
The combination of all these factors yields a possible maximum overall score of 100 points. According to Consumer Reports, the point differential between the top-rated and bottom-rated vehicles of the same category can be as high as 40 points.
With regard to the 2022 Buick Encore specifically, the overall score added up to 72 points, placing the Encore in second place of 12 vehicles total in the “Luxury Entry-level Sport-utility Vehicles” category. Some of the vehicle highlights identified by Consumer Reports include the vehicle’s compact dimensions, which made it easier to park and maneuver through tight spaces, as well as the quiet cabin and comfortable ride.
Among the vehicle lows outlined was a lack of engine power, middling fuel economy, poor rear visibility, the manual-only seat recline feature, and the fact that active safety systems were offered as optional equipment.
The 2022 Buick Encore also scored a Road test score of 69 out of 100, with a predicted reliability of five out of five and Predicted Owner Satisfaction of two out of five.
To note, the Buick Encore is set to be discontinued after the 2022 model year, as GM Authority exclusively reported back in March.
As a reminder, the Buick Encore is motivated by the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LE2 gasoline engine, rated at 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, while under the skin is the GM Gamma 2 platform. For now, production takes place at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

Like Kim above, I had one. A 2018 that I drove for 2 1/2 years from new. Perfect car with zero issues and great quality/value. On the highway I would easily get 34 mpg. Nice car.
Wy did you only have it for 2 1/2 years
little buzzard: I normally keep a car around 2 years. I’m not a smoker, drinker, bar hopper, drug user, gambler or near anything else. So cars are my vice. I really enjoy getting a new car more often, but I always look for the deals and best buys. And I never ever pay anything close to MSRP!! In the past 2 years, I’ve owned/leased 3 cars now: 2020 Cadillac CT4 (loved that car too), 2021 Volvo S60 T8 (again, very nice) and now a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu LT. The only reason for this is because I was able to sell both the CT4 and S60 for a profit well above what I paid for them. I kind of ended up with this Malibu because there’s just no inventory of cars and got it as a gap-filler until inventories get better. Funny thing is that I’m actually really liking it so far.
