A class-action lawsuit has been filed against GM by certain owners of the automaker’s 2015 to 2019 model year full-size truck and SUV models over peeling exterior paint.
Plaintiffs in this class-action suit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, say the exterior paint on affected vehicles is prone to delaminating, peeling, bubbling, flaking and/or blistering, according to Car Complaints. They also allege the paint peels and delaminates without any external or environmental influence, as the paint and clear coat were are not able to bond properly due to their opposing chemical properties.
Plaintiffs say this problem has lessened the second-hand value of affected vehicles and that a repaint will not suffice, as hand-painted vehicles often do not have the same consistent finish as ones painted in the factory by a robot. They also say GM was aware of the paint defects and “failed to provide truthful information,” regarding the paint’s condition to customers. The lawsuit calls for GM to repurchase affected vehicles at full cost, reimburse lessees based on how much they’re paid toward their leases and to recall all vehicles with defective paint.
Interestingly, the class action complaint itself contains a reference to an online complaint that was submitted to CarComplaints.com by the owner of a 2015 model year Chevy Tahoe. This individual says the topcoat on the hood and roof of their Tahoe “started to fade/grey and crack on the black undercoat,” after three years of ownership. The GM dealership they took the vehicle to quoted them $2,300 to have the hood repainted. This person says they expected the paint to “last well into a decade,” and that this happened despite the fact they wash their vehicle weekly and get it detailed professionally every six months.
The following GM vehicles are involved in the suit:
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Suburban
- 2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado
- 2015-2019 GMC Yukon
- 2015-2019 GMC Yukon XL
- 2015-2019 GMC Sierra
This class-action lawsuit was filed by Florida GM customers Tom Riley, Heather Shrum and Gary Ambrose, along with Tennessee GM customer Sherry Kilburn. We’ll provide more information on the suit as it becomes available.

Meanwhile the paint on my 2002 GMC Sierra with 261,500 miles is still looking good with no peeling/fading.
That is highly relevant information. 20 year old truck built by old GM which is not even in business anymore
My 2016 Sierra 2500 tailgate looks like a Leopard and the top coat is peeling as well
I have a 2015 LT Chevy Sonic the top roof and front hood of the vehicle has no shine and rough to touch they called the dealer and told them I would have to pay 1500.00 the Company General Motors will pay 1500.00. Terrible
My 2016 Sonic roof is peeling in large flakes. The hood won’t be far behind. Under the flaking paint is surface rust spotting. So this issue goes beyond the trucks and SUVs.
How can someone join the lawsuit?
Would love to know the answer to this! I need to join!
i would like to know also
Everyone on this page with a 2015 chevy trax with blue peeling paint needs to contact maher lawfirm..407 839 0866…this will regester you for a class action suit against GM..We need to get as many people as we can sign up to include the trax..
I have 2016 Trax with the blue.
I also have the same.Mine just started peeling off my lift gate under my window.
How did a class action suit get started??
I have a 2008 Equinox and the paint is peeling off also. What I found online that this is a common problem with the Equinox and everyone’s paint is peeling in the same spots on the cars. Can the cars be included in this law suit with the trucks as it is all the same problem with bad paint.
2009 Saturn VUE Hybrid – Paint on the left front pillar flaked off, exposing the base/ primer coat but not rusting. Rt side lower door panels, but not on the lower edges, paint has bubbled. 105k miles, mostly north of Boise.
2002 GMC Sierra 1500 – 75k mi NW Indiana/ rust belt/ rarely driven in winter and under body washed often. Good upper body paint; undercarriage – Factory thicker coating fell off and gone after about 10 yrs. Brake lines replaced 2015. Rear bumper history after 10 yrs; behind tail lights rust through; only rust under both doors after 14 yrs, frame under driver large rust through; rear differential cover rust through; pwr steering oil cooler rust through after 10 yrs. Engine good but thermostat sticks/ oil color amber at change; good exhaust
2003 Saturn VUE – 100k mi, NW Indiana rust belt. Ex fuel economy. Upper body looks good and interior looks near new, but vehicle is history because of complete rust through everywhere on the underbody. Rust affected the rear underbody and underbody side channels first. Rarely used horn failed at switch that is part of the driver’s steering wheel mounted air bag.
1999 Saturn SC2 – Some rust, but reasonable.
I have a 2015 Equinox and the paint started peeling over the past 6-8 months. Same problem – the white paint apparently did not bond to the primer. Just a matter of time until it will start peeling off all over the car.
Tried to get local dealer in Tempe, AZ (customer for 20+ years / 4 new vehicles purchased there) to fix it but got nothing except a quote of $6800 to repaint complete car.
Scott, I have a 2015 Equinox with peeling paint. The dealership said there is no recall on that and won’t do the repair. It is obviously not something that we have caused. I understand that we were not included in the lawsuit because they didn’t have enough complaints from us. Any idea who to contact?
I have a 2015 Blue Chevy Trax. The peeling paint is awful and keeps getting worse. I came on here looking to see if there were others with this problem or if there was some sort of recall.
Hello. Is there still time? The painting on the hood, roof and trunk are ruined
just don’t look underneath the car. My 2002 Avalanche has about rusted out including all the brake lines with only 110k miles. Paint was bubbling on the fenders and hood just out of warranty. GM uses crappy metal and it should be illegal to use a rustable material for brake lines.
Exactly same thing it bubbles

My 2016 GMC 3500 developed bubbles and peeling 2 months ago. Looking to GM for some help
Have you received any help? I was just quoted $1800 to fix one door and the roof where the are peeling. 2017 white frost tricoat.
Have you received any help? 2017 Sierra white frost tricoat bubbled then peeled.
I have a 2018 GMC 2500 HD Denali with Tricoat white paint, paint on the hood is starting to peel. I took it to 2 dealers following the instruction given to me by GMC customer care, what a colossal waste of time. The 2 dealers in northeast Florida reported the peeling paint as rock chips. I have been in the automotive service industry for many years, I assure you this paint problem is not rock chips. GMC customer care refused any corrective assistance with the paint peeling issue.
My 2018 Tahoe Premier is now starting to get the issue on the hood. Really makes me not want another Chevy vehicle. Couple the paint issues on my daughters 2016 Sonic LTZ, my 2016 Malibu Premier, now my 2018 Tahoe Premier and the mechanical issues I have had with my Tahoe and Malibu, Chevy seems to have fallen off a cliff. I have had a Transmission replaced, Condenser, water pump, 2 injectors, fan switch and harness, front and rear shocks, and electronic side step. Malibu needs harness for rear parking brake and Cruise control. but has had numerous issues as well. My old 1998 Suburban LT had 300k miles on it and all I ever had to replace was radiator and alternator. Everything else worked flawlessly.
Must be a standard rehearsed answer. I got the same one here in Miami. I will never buy another GMC because of this. I have a 2006, 18
years old folks, Hyundai Tiburon and the paint is still in excellent condition. Make a better product and stand behind it!
My 2018 sierra looks terrible and it started peeling within a year. All around the exterior I have paint missing
Paint on My 2014 Sierra is perfect and looks like the day I picked it up.
That’s crazy because I was embarassed by how much paint was missing all over my 2014 Sierra. Basically every forward facing surface had the paint peeling like it never bonded. I was shocked to see this suit didn’t include the 2014s.
My 2014 Sierra paint has peeled off all over my truck! From front to back, sides and on top. Crazy! Has only 79,000 miles. Does anyone know who to contact to complain and/or get this problem fixed?
My 2015 sierra 2500hd denali has paint peeling on top of the cab and back passenger door. What was the outcome of this lawsuit?
I have same problem with my white 2013. Only 38.000 miles. Crew cab short bix peeling on top and side.
I have a 2014 Sierra with peeling paint on the roof. I went to the dealer to be told it is not covered because it is out of warranty. Just beyond 36 months.
My 2012 Silverado with 128,000 miles is peeling/flaking off too. Bad primer in my opinion. Wish there was a law suit I could join.
Marcie, same here. I’ve got a 2012. the hood and roof of my Chevy Silverado peeled off. It’s rusting quickly!
Peeling even behind the cab by the bed, and on the roof. Forward facing was first to go.
I have 2014 sierra 1500 Denali and on both passenger doors the white diamond coat paint from factory has peeled off big time between rear cab frame and narrow parts of door along window.
GM says it is cosmetic and would do nothing.
Same here….my 2015 gmc 1500 denali has chips on the A pillars and gm said cosmetic!
Mine did the same thing. I wrote numerous letters to GM president, vice president, dealership and 7-on your side (local tv station). After 3 months of non stop letters, the dealership called and set up appointment to fix it for no cost. This was two years ago, now I just noticed the other side by the window is doing the same thing. I will be sending out the letters again!!! Don’t give up, they need to fix this issue with no charge to the buyer.
Did you send letters weekly? For 3 months
I bought my 15 Chevy equinox in one state and moved to another a year later so …
Mine started with a bubble on the lift gate that eventually came off at the same time I had bubbling around both front wheel wells and inside the passenger door behind the driver
What color was your equinox or are all colors doing it. Heard white was the worst.
Please help me . I have a 2019 chev equinox the hood paint is bubbling rust spot, too =
Hi! I have the same issue. I purchased the vehicle used a year ago and didn’t notice the front edge bubbling until 6 months later. I took it to a dealer and he said there are lots of chips on the hood and they were painted over. The corrosion warranty is still open, but dealer says it doesn’t cover because it only covers rust and places that have a hole and this corrosion is because of chipping! It is on the edge of the hood in several areas, the biggest is probably 8 inches! I have been driving for over 50 years and had many cars but never had “chipping” along the edge of my hood. On the top of my hood yes, but not the edge!! Have you contacted GM or anyone for help?
My 2015 Chevy Equinox is White
Last GM vehicle I’ll ever buy
Well my 14 dually has peeled paint patchs all over the roof, and has fir 3 years now. Dealer said tough luck. Roof leaks around the roof marker lights as well.
And yet, my 2014 Sierra is flaking off the roof. I noticed it a few months after the warranty ran out.
Paint on my 2014 Silverado is blistering, peeling, all over. Was told repaint will cost $25,000
Crazy because I have had nothing but problems with my 2000 Tahoe and 2005 and 10 Yukons the roof and hood paint popped and I think water and air got in between metal and paint on every one it just flys off? Must of got lucky good for you
My 2010 Chevy express van paint is peeling and flaking off in large areas…hood. roof, doors… told that GM used wrong primer. It’s a common problem on the GM vans.
Sure wish GM could be held responsible
I woke up this morning and found a big area of paint chipping from my 2015 Trax . I was so proud of my vehicle. What the hell . This is just going to get worse with the cold weather approaching. What can I do to make GM fix it .
My 2015 Trax liftgate is peeling along and under the window. I called and was told the lawsuit was dropped so we are SOL !!
2017 Chevy Silverado. I bought it brand new and 1 of the door is peeling, driver quarter panel and the right fender.. my transmission went out in 3 years. I have changed the AC condenser. Windshield wiper motor went out. Changed radiator went out. I’m a Chevy dude but this one here is a lemon. I take care of my cares. But this one here is junk.
same. i have replaced the A/C, new ball joints, transfer case went, paint issues and now my transmission is having issues. how do i get involved in the class action law suit?
and…my warranty was up three months ago so i’ll be paying for my transmission out of my pocket…if anyone has any advice to help convince GM to pony up for the transmission let me know…
thanks!
I bought my 2017 high country and at 5,000 mi. The transmission start acting up and the dealer replaced the fluid with the correct fluid and said it was a mistake at the factory. Now at 60,000mi. it’s doing it again.
I need in on this, my 2016 Chevy Silverado LTZ is doing it on the rear wheel wells. It just starting
Have a 2002 Chevy Silverado crew cab paint job looks new even being out in the elements for 21yrs. My 2016 Tahoe looks like crap due to the hood and roof fading. Tried going thru GM to file a claim and was told they would only cover $2,000 for a repaint job.
Looks like $2000 more than anyone else
I contacted the law firm this case was with. They said the case has been thrown out by the judge and Buick was not included in the lawsuit. They told me to contact Buick. I have yet to do so. I now have peeling paint along the edges of my windshield in addition to the places on the hood of my Encore.
My 2017 Chevy malibu, the paint is fading bad . I had the car about 4 years it should not be fading already. How can I get it painted . Do the lawsuit include chevy cars too?
I’m thinking they don’t care. I got a pretty good run around when I call GM
Well it’s cheap for a reason.
My 2016 Colorado did the same thing. Dealer told me it was from road stones, I said really? That why the paint is bubbling and peeling? I might of been born at night, but not last night!!
The dealer probably isn’t telling you a lie outright. However the road stones aren’t the cause of the paint peeling.
The road stones are the ‘catalyst’. The ’cause’ is that the clear coat and paint are not good enough to bond together once there is no longer a continuous seal between the two. This day and age, the painting products and technology are out there to withstand the abuse car can go through, but evidently GM didn’t feel the need to use them.
Man, Mary must spend a fortune on legal council. What is this like the 5th class action lawsuit in the last 5 years?
and anyone who buys GM, pays for the legal fees.
WTF! The paint on a vehicle THAT new should not be peeling!
Paint has been pealing on ever mfg vehicles for decades.
My Cougar pealed in sheets.
The real BS here is hand painted may not be as good. Well if it is not better you chose the wrong body shop.
Peeling paint was predominately in a bygone era when OEMs tried to save a buck with the all in one paint. Few models have had early paint peeling issues in the past 15 years. It is a not a common problem now and shows GM is cutting corners.
My 2019 Traverse with 39000 miles has started to peel paint…I see that the Traverse is not listed in the lawsuit…who can I contact about this…It supposedly has a high grade paint…it is flaking all over the car..
Crazy because I have had nothing but problems with my 2000 Tahoe and 2005 and 10 Yukons the roof and hood paint popped and I think water and air got in between metal and paint on every one it just flys off I agree decades.
My 2003 Silverado SS looked like crap in 2016 when I uploaded it.
My 2003 Silverado SS looked like crap in 2016 when I unloaded it.
I knew not to buy a Chevy. But no I just had to have that pretty blue Chevy Trax now it is shedding its paint.
Mine too, same year, brilliant blue. The class action suit does not yet include the Trax, but if enough of us contact the law firm, that will change! If you call them, they will tell you that, and they will add you to their data base. There are MANY of us out there, we all just need to contact the firm handling the suit:
(407) 839-0866
It was a quick phone call, and I got a live person!
I have an ‘05 Suburban with 190,000 miles and it still looks mighty fine. Plus, it’s black and the paint is all original. I turn down at least one offer, every month. I turned down $12,500 last month. I know, I’m an idiot but I can’t replace it in this market.
I love my 05 Yukon but my paint has been a problem
Paint peeling on my 2015 silverado
My 2002 Honda Civic paint fades
Trust Marry Barra she will get a handle on this .
My 2014 Silverado does this also.
I have 2017 Chevy Traverse with red tin coat paint that is flaking off hood can you help us
Yeah. Trade that pile of junk in.
My 2014 GMC Sierra does this also. I approached the dealership about this and the reason I was given was rock chips. Rocks are chipping the paint on both rear door pillars in exactly the same spot….not likely. This suit should be extended to 2014 vehicles as well.
Hello, My 2015 sierra, Triple white pearl flaking of rear doors , A pillars , starting on roof.. Dont even think about pressure washing these vehicles. It will be a gray mess when done. Ps, Always hand washed and detailed weekly.. A huge let down.
Equinox should be involved in this too! I have read literally hundreds of paint chipping reviews about the 2008-2016 model, all of which say GM won’t do anything. I bought my 2015 Equinox in January 2021. Only 1 previous owner. No accidents, clean CarFax, approx 36k miles on it. A few months ago I was driving down the road and noticed in my rear view mirror it looked like big chunks of confetti flying behind me. It was my car; over the last few months it has progressively gotten worse and is now missing most the paint on the top of the car and the hood. Even worse, rust set in very fast all though I keep it in my garage when not driving it. I bought it for roughly $16k, putting 9k down and financing the remaining 7k.
I have not contacted Chevy bc I dont want to get even more upset about the issue. And with so many complaints, why is Equinox not included in this class action suit but all these others are?! Absolutely ridiculous!!!!
Yes 2014 is the same model generation as the lawsuit that starts with 2015
As a retired gm engineer, i would suspect the environmentally friendly paint which is now water based.
There is no molecular bonding.
It is a shame the manufactures won’t own up to the problem which goes far back in time. It seems the paint industry would have corrected this issue by now.
How do you join this lawsuit?
Id like to know as well. My 2014 Sierra has the same issue.
I have a 2019 silverado custom 1500 and the paint on the front of the hood and the lower front fender has specs of chipped paint all across the front, it looks like someone has thrown hundreds of little rocks at it, but no where else has any issues
Same thing same issues since 2000 there just great trucks though other than paint
Someone on this thread of complaints about all our bubbling and chopping paint problems stated the wrote letters to the president and VP of GMC for 3 months
Also contacted their local news and local Chevy dealer.
Maybe we should all do that since all I see are posts but no answers
I notified the dealership where I purchased my brand new 2014 GMC Sierra in 2018 that the paint was peeling on my truck. They gave me the run-around and never repainted my vehicle. I contacted the Better Business Bureau, GMC Corporate and still received no satisfaction. I did my research online and discovered peeling paint is a common problem with GMC ‘s white vehicles manufactured in Mexico.
I would love to see quality stats based on manufacturing plant. My bet is a lot of quality issues from Mexico.
My 2016 Colorado did the same thing. Dealer told me it was from road stones, I said really? That why the paint is bubbling and peeling? I might of been born at night, but not last night!!
Our 2015 Silverado has peeling paint in the side panel and all over in the bed. Chevy dealorship wants $1,300.00 to fix the 8×10 area not including the bed.
I see these vehicles all over the place with this issue.
Never again would we purchase another chevy product.
Wow, interesting the company that I work for has a 2007 6500 and 2007 GMC van both in white, both peeling like crazy. I thought that it was because of age.
So basically we have to get it painted ourselves little man always get the shaft, mine also white but built in Texas.
I was quoted 22,000 and 25,000 dollars to repaint the 2014 truck. Holy Guacamole.
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado that the paint is coming off in big hunks. I bought the extended warranty and still GM won’t help. I’d like to see another law suit to include more years please. I’d join it. Meanwhile, be warned.
2017 GMC Silverado looks like a giraffe. Paint falling off everywhere. Dealer says stone chips. That’s not the case
Just had the hood painted on my 2018 Silverado …because the paint had rust coming through the paint…..truck only has 14 k miles on it and has been garage kept
My 2012 2500 Silverado is peeling terribly, it’s white and the paint is coming off everywhere with only 105000 miles on it.
My 2012 Silverado with 128,000 miles is peeling/flaking off too. Bad primer in my opinion. Paints not sticking to it. At first I thought it was a problem with the White Diamond paint but it sounds like all colors are having problems. Wish there was a law suit I could join.
My 2014 Buick Verano started fading in 2018 and now the hood and the top is completely faded. I mentioned to dealer when I saw it started to fade but they couldn’t do anything about it so I drive around with an ugly car now, the inside of the car still looks new, but the outside is ugly. Who can I contact in corporate. I feel they should paint my car and compensate me for my worries!!!
I work for a GM dealer you guys get corrosion warranty that will cover most of these items listed. during the covered period but vehicles do get hit on the highways we call them stone chips they do eventually bubble and cause the same Condition No I do stand with most customers customers as far as imperfection in the paint which which is warrantable but definitely not good for GM it is a problem.
I know the feeling I’m driving a 2015 LT Chevy Sonic I wish I never bought from Terry Labonte in Greensboro NC the front hood of my car and the roof has no shine at all with on 40,000 miles on it, a police told me it’s bad paint don’t buy a car from GM get a Lawyer😡
We have a 2015 GMC Sierra purchased used with 70,000km in 2018. Approx 1 year later we noticed paint bubbling at the passenger rear door which has now a significant area down to bare metal, now paint flaking off driver/passenger doors near mud flaps, paint flaking off on roof/windshield.
What a eye sore and disappointing factory defect!
My 2015 Silverado crew cab is doing the same thing, mine is Summit White color
Mine too
2015 equinox
Mine started on the liftgate then around the wheel wells of driver and passenger and inside the passenger door behind the driver
I don’t know if anything will happen for all the issues these vehicles have
I love my SUV but I’ll never buy another Chevy
The pearl white colour
Frustrating when they knew it was a defect but continued to produce vehicles where the customer now has to pay thousands of dollars for a full vehicle paint job.
I guess GM didn’t learn from their last paint fiasco in the late 80s to 90s with the white paint that would peel while driving 🤣
My 1990 white Sierra had peeling paint from hood and roof. My white 2014 silverado is ok so far.
My 2014 silver Silverado is peeling “all over”
We should be added to the lawsuit
gm is infamous for having the worst paint in the industry.
It complements the cheap plastic interiors well.
I have a 2016 CT6 Cadillac that has streaks on the hood and faded paint on top. The hood looks like silk.
We have a 2017 suburban and our paint look really bad on the hood and roof we had it detailed and the guy called us out and asked if it was in an accident we said no why? He then told us that this hood don’t match up with the rest of the car we asked what do you mean he has a device that measure’s the paint and it was way over the thickness of the doors quarter panels and back hatch also the roof didn’t match either he then told us to take it to the dealership and tell them to replace or repaint the hood and the roof which I did they told us we would have to take it up with GM consumer protection people I asked for the number and it’s just a person at the dealership like a customer service manager and they decided weather it would be approved for repairs guess what it was denied I want in on the lawsuit….
How do we add 2014 to this lawsuit
My 2015 has been peeling all over since the first year I bought ii.
I have a black 2008 yukon gmc I purchased new. Have taken very good care of the vehicle, however the roof, sides of hood and other areas on vehicle are peeling, bubbling and look awful! GMC owes me a paint job!
Our 2014 Silverado as well! Doors and the top of the cab “erupted” and peeled down the center. All paint shops say it needs a complete strip and repaint. GM refused to help.
2015 Chevy equinox , bubbling paint,
My 2019 Equinox bubbling on the hood and the clear coat is peeling.
My 017 Arcadia is peeling on left side a back hatch look bad need to talk to someone
My 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain has had 2 such instances. One on the Driver side rear door, where the paint started flaking off and then a huge chunk just peeled away, the other on the roof when I noticed paint flakes falling on my windshield after the snow was melting.. Looked at it and from the middle of the windshield out both was 20″ of paint by 10″ just gone down to the primer.. GM did however fix the issue, but only covered a portion of the fix. Local Dealer said they have seen it only once before on a newer truck. This on top of the terrible paint that started flaking instantly on the painted front bumper of my truck that now looks like someone took a sandblaster to it. GM would not fix that though and the Dealer wanted $1200 to do the work since they said it needed to be a new bumper (yeah right). Body shop wanted only $400 for repaint AND protective coating.
My 2016 Silverado, with 50K miles, still looks perfect! Autumn Bronze is the color. Garaged at home, only. Had it professionally detailed once. It’s due again! I Still get compliments on it, & “Is that a New truck?” !
Consider yourself lucky. I have a half dozen peeled bubble patches on the ROOF of my 2014 3500HD dually that range in size from a sliver dollar to the size of my fist. Each patch area is completely rusted. my dealer told me tough luck when i first noticed it in 2017 or 18. Since it’s my only work truck ( I use it tow tow daily for my biz), I don’t have 2 weeks to leave it at a body shop to be redone. Unless someone gets on ladder, or is 6ft+ tall standing on my running boards, you don’t see these things. However, it sure as hell devalues the heck out of the truck for trade/resale value. oh yeah, i wash and maintain it regularly as i need it last, so its not from lack of care. Again, consider yourself lucky on your particular truck, as it’s clearly not an isolated issue.
Hello Everyone, I wonder if GM will ever reach the stage where they remind us of the multivitamin “One A Day” lawsuits. My family had GM vehicles for over two decades (1960’s till the 1980’s). The front bench seat of the Pontiac Catalina broke after “only a few years. For my family that’s the time when we parted from GM. We had other things go wrong but we remained loyal to them. We moved on to other manufacturers that satisfied our needs.
Everyone is looking at the paint and finish. Why not also mention the glazed head light lenses / light bezels and plastic exterior parts that have a clearcoat that bubbles and flakes off.
Chuck
My grand parents only ever bought GMC and the paint failed on one truck the dealer repainted it I believe. That was back in the 1980s early 90s .
My 2014 GMC 1500. Has the exact problem as the lawsuit paint bubbling and flaking off.
I will just sand it down at the bad spots and hand spray it.
Be interesting to know what colors it’s affecting. A lot of manufactures had problems with white in the 80s it seems. I had a 2tone 89 c1500 that all the white down the middle was flaking off, not one single piece of blue came off even around all the rock chips on the hood or top of bed. The primer was perfect, just paint coming off the top. I figured they would have fixed it but my dads flat white 07 malibu started doing the same thing at around 8yo decades later. He also had a 87 astro that the black pillars between windows was flaking off. I’ve only ever seen white or black flaking problems, not any actual color tint (is that just coincidence with my experience)?
Hopefully not the same issue since the paints are not even related from then to now, but I could see them somehow recreating the same problem in good old save a dime per $40000 car GM fashion.
i have the issue, mine is 2017 black sierra
The roof of my 3500 Express has been peeling and rusting for years. Everytime I talk to another Express owner they have the same problem.
Hi iam having the same issue with 2 of my truck doors and chevy won’t do anything about it my truck is a 2015 chevy silverado only has 52000 miles on it the paint is bubleing from the inside out
This is nothing new, they had the same issue with the ’13 Avalanche, delamination and inside out rust due to the moisture retention from the internal sound deadner used.
3 years into ownership the area above the windshield was delaminating and the blistering of paint began on the panel immediately behind the passenger rear door.
0 customer service or satisfaction from the dealer on up through at least 2 rungs of GM “customer service”.
On this premise I took care 9f this problem which started late in the warranty and had it painted myself, I continue to drive it and its not likely that GM will earn my business on my next vehicle at a minimum.
Its a shame, I’m 63, have driven GM for a lifetime, and people who know me know my cars.
This has been happening for a lot longer than that! Chevy vans are the worst, you see them all the time looking like they have leprosy. My church’s 15 passenger Chevy van is afflicted by this eyesore! Tradesmen use these sorry looking vans and trucks to conduct business. Many have invested in hand painted signs and lettering, only to have the surrounding paint fall off the vans/trucks! My 2006 class B chevy workhorse motor home was afflicted to where the paint just fell off despite being garaged with low mileage. I worked at a college that has a fleet of these vans and trucks. Without exception, they all had to be repainted at the College’s expense! Yes, they were all white. GM has shirked their duty to their customers, and still hasn’t corrected the problem in well over a decade!
My new body style 2014 Impala has the paint peeling on the hood, roof rails, front finder and one door jam. Evrytime iwash it more paint peels off. It really sucks. None of my Fords ever did this. 😤
To be fair I’ve seen some white Fords with similar flaking, but not as consistent and widespread as GM.
Fords huge problem is they can’t get primer to stick to their galvanized hood/tailgates on SUV’s. I live outside Chicago and it’s very consistent to see less than 10yo Expeditions/Explorers with paint flaking off and galvanized metal exposed. Not sure if all the salt makes it worse but it’s a common problem here, normally where the metal has a bend or curve to it.
I sold hundreds of these trucks in Connecticut and Never had one customer contact me with this problem. Must be something in the water in Florida
I’m in MN and have a half dozen peeled bubbled patches ranging in size from a silver dollar to my fist all over the roof on my 2014 3600HD. you think the water from my hose and various car washes caused this? congrats on selling hundreds of these trucks. doesn’t make your “in the water” comment any less idiotic when it appears to be a nationwide issue.
So exactly is being recalled? All production vehicles listed or just ones with peeling or bubbles?
Is this a State specific suit? All US? All North America including Canada?
Thanks
Have a look back the 2005 and 06 chevy the paint peeled on 90% of them chevy did nothing good luck
Paint on my 2018 GMC Canyon, is also peeling,on the hood. But this make and model are not included in lawsuit.
My 2002 Suburban blew an engine, had peeling paint, and had to replace break lines. The break line failure at 70 mph almost cost my family their lives, all this happened with less than 55000 miles. GM did nothing.
2011 GMC Sierra with paint peeling between the bed and the cab on both sides and the front right fender. Dealership said they cant fix it unless there is “rust” where the peel is.
My 2012 GMC Serria is doing the exact same thing. Can we extend those years down to then?
My paint hasn’t been peeling or chipping, but it’s also just not good on my 2016 Colorado.
My rear quarters are bubbling on my 2014
They need to include the 2014 Silverado year model too! I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500, the paint is peeling on the rear passenger door on the driver side, and on the A-pillar next to the windshield!
I had the same problem with my 2018 Buick Enclave. The hood had small white patches that was evidence of poor paint job. Both the dealership and GM denied the patches were due to paint piling. I’m glad to know my Enclave is not the only vehicle with this problem.
This is good because my 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe has the same issue right now…hood and roof and I am not happy about it. Hopefully, this is won because it’s not cheap to fix and GM has already tried to screw me out of the vacuum pump issue despite me having special coverage…lol GM is just awful.
I have a 2015 crew cab 1500 Silverado LT 2 wheel drive in summit white and the paint is flaking off around the crew cab doors close to the window on both sides flaking off in dime size flakes/chips, they just keep getting bigger, unless you hit it with some touch up paint,it’s ridiculous, I hope they do recall them at full price.
Dealership told me faded paint was due to drive thru car washes, I told them I always hand wash my vehicles, even using a two bucket method
I had a Chevy Corsica in the 90s which had paint with bubbling and peeling issues. I took it to several dealers who told me since it was out of warranty I would have to pay to have it repaired. Finally, one service manager gave me the number to the Chevy Clearing House where I was told the issue was known to affect my color of paint. I got it repaired for free. Don’t know why the other service managers couldn’t have done that.
My 17 Sierra looks like it has rust coming thru the white paint
Had to repaint my 2015 Yukon Hood and Roof. Looked horrible.
How do we get added to the lawsuit list?
My 2017 Silverado has paint pealing. Have owned 3 previous Silverados and never experienced paint pealing.
My ’14 Silverado did the same thing. Had to replace the tranny at 150,000 miles too. Don’t own that thing anymore.
I own a 2015 Silverado Summit white.
I typically always wash my vehicles by hand and never use the drive-thru wash.
Electric pressure washer removed paint on the passenger rear doors by the bottom corners, near the window. Roof is also beginning to peel. It’s the LTZ Trim with the Z71 package. I will be following along to see how this goes. 7 year Old truck, should not need new paint already..
My 1998 Chevy Silverado started to peal, flake and fade after 4 years at that time I didn’t know where to turn where GMC gave me the run around
It’s actually happening to the 2014 Sierra’s as well
The vehicle would be dirty or slight oil film on the metal oil drips down from over head convers
I have taking my 2019 GMC back to dealership two because paint peeling
2018 GMC Yukon XL paint bubbling an peeling off mirror an paint looks faded at the top around sunroof.
My 2004 Chevy express van has been peeling for years and now has giant pieces of paint missing. It’s embarrassing and pisses me off ! Hard to believe GM would just let this major image problem go on for years without correcting it.
Kinda wondering why you are even bothering to comment on GM at this point since you no longer own one ?
Just keep buyin em.
GM has been building garbage for decades.
Examples are too numerous to mention.
My son’s 2018 Silverado lost a camshaft @ 8,000 kms.
His last 2015 lost air condtioning after 13 months 1 month after 12month warranty and was 14 hours ti repair.
My father in laws 2003 silverado also had paint peeling
Alongside the starters for 6.2 litre diesel.that needed replacement annually and his “east coast springs” Gm quote which needed replacement the first year.
Apparently 1lb weighs differently on each Canadian coastline. Don’t bother with any BS replies to this as I’ve discovered Lexus which never even needed 1lb of freon in 20 years of bulletproof reliability.
Only ever needed 1 oxygen sensor.
THERE’S A REASON TOYOTA IS NOW #1 IN SALES ON EARTH.
PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!
My 2008 GMC Sierra clear coat is coming off and bubbling all over the top of the hood doors top of the cab and starting to bubble on the tail gate
My 2013 Silverado, paint is peeling from hood
My 2015 Silverado is peeling.
I’ve avoided GM/Chevy trucks for decades over their paint issues. Was especially bad in the later 90s. Every single white GM truck I saw had paint peeling off and gray primer showing through. Gem and Chevy have been incredibly poorly rated in terms of reliability the last decade alone.
As much as I would like to stick closer to a US manufacturer my next truck will probably be a Nissan Titan.
I would like to know exactly what truck plant these truck where painted at.
I have a 2014 silverado 1500 z71 quad cab. And around the back door windows the paint is flaking and pealing off. I feel your pain. Reached out to dealer and they looked at me like I was crazy. They took pictures but nothing ever can of it. I found a new dealer.
We are NOT talking about road chips for sure. But blatant gigantic defects in the paint. We are talking about huge piece’s of paint that just lift off of your vehicle and fly away. We are talking about something that should Never happen to the paint on a vehicle Ever but does routinely and destroys the value of the car or truck affected. As well as an embarrassment to drive.
I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 and the paint bubbled up and flakes off the hood and the top of both front fenders
Paint peeling next to the headlights on brand new C8’s. GM needs to get their sh*t together.
I have a 2016 Colorado and the paint on the hood is bubbling.
What about all the white Express vans that have huge sections of paint missing on the hood and rear doors typically?
2018 Chevy Equinox Clear Coat peeling on the front and Roof
My 2014 Silverado has paint bubbling and peeling around the windshield and the two rear doors.
My 2007 Chevy Cargo Van paint is peeling off the hood. If it wasn’t for my lettering, the whole hood would probably be bare at this point
2015 paint flaking on rear door. Sucks the ppl i got it from wont help ive tried. Good looking truck but paint chipping off not good when you spending about 50 k and paint is falling
Considering how Many Barra handled cracking dashes and airbags on 2007-2015 model trucks I wouldn’t hold your breath. She could have gone after suppliers for defective parts and made Chevy golden in customer’s eyes. Instead she had attorneys and lobbyist stick it to Chevy’s customers.
I know fleet buyers that will no longer consider GM products because of how much money they lost on the resale value of those trucks.
She will go down in history as the greatest asset Ford, Toyota and Nissan ever had in taking away General Motors market share.
My 2014 silverodo Rockers rotted badly smh….
Flint water was the problem……GM was the first to quit using the water as it was affecting the paint process ….
I owned a 2012 Silverado Ltz with the triple Diamond white premium paint. The paint began flaking off in 2019 like leaves off a tree in fall. It was in no wear places like around the rim of the rear windows. The idiots at the god awful Chevy dealership told me it was my fault and it was general wear and tear. I couldn’t even believe it. I had been a gm fan but I sold the truck at a big loss in 2020 and then sold my wife’s gm suv after that s well. I’ll never buy another gm product again. GM has knowingly had this problem especially on light colored vehicles for two decades. They don’t care about their customers and their service teams try to pass it off as a one off fluke. It isn’t. I’ve photographed many gm trucks with the same peeling paint problem I had.
I have a 2014 chevy silverado high country with 80 thousand miles my roof has Started to peel
Hmmm, same ol GM after all sadly. Remember the same thing in the eighties with S10 trucks and S 10 Blazers?
I have a 2016 Chevy Trax LT all wheel drive . My paint is now peeling on the back under back window. I am not sure if I should also be in this class action law suit.
We have 2 GMC tahoes 2005 and both peeling on hood, so not just newer…they just got even cheaper with paint for newer ones
My 2009 looks like leopard 🐆 rust coming through all over doors box sides really bad and top of roof of cab trucks great but proby trade to different brand since no luck with or help from dealer ship or GM
My 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 is silver and has bubbles in the paint and flacks of paint have come off on the roof and where the windshield is!!!!!
Every 2008, 09, 10 and 11 Silverado. 1500 is rotting out in the rear wheel wells. My truck an 08 started after 2 years. Most likely here in the Northeast due to the salt in the winter. This could have been prevented with 50 cents of paint. Never again buying a Chevy product ! ! !
2010 Silverado WHITE
ITS ONLY HAPPENING TO WHITE COLORED VEHICLES FOR SOME REASON, 😕
What about dash cracking on 2007-2012 suburbans and tahoes? I have 2 doing this and know many others! These cracks could influence airbag deployment from cracked dash panel.
My 2014 Silverado ltz z71 has the same problem, its typically more with the white painted vehicle.
They class action lawsuit should be vehicles from late 2014 to early 2019
I have 2014 Silverado that both rear doors are flaking off and now the roof is doing the same thing. I have talked to several friends are having the same problems. Something needs to be done since I love my truck and it only has 41k mikes on it.
My 2016 Chevy Trax is also peeling . The paint just started peeling and is getting bigger. I think this vehicle should also be involved with the Lawsuit
I have a 2000 Silverado that looks like it’s shedding. The hood and front fenders are peeling and the clear is peeling all over. Was told buy a professional body man was caused buy bad factory prep work
My 2014 Sierra has the same problem, which started on the A-pilars. I was told by my auto body shop that it’s a factory issue that shouldn’t be happening anymore. They were very surprised that it happened to such a newer vehicle. I have gone back to the dealership, but they refuse to talk about the problem. How do I get GM to acknowledge that it goes even further back (2014)? Plz help
An all the comments that are good must be management comments
Good luck. We have complained and also went this route before. My 94 corvette and my 89 formula firebird have this same problem from back in the day. They never fixed my or anyone’s cars from then, they blamed it on water based paint. As to save the environment . Haha. This has been going on longer than the years mentioned. Just think how much to paint a corvette 12 k . I hope you all get it. I’m still waiting!!!
I have a 2016 Yukon Denali, bought brand new at Sheehan Buick, Pompano Beach, FL. About three years later, in 2019, noticed the paint cracking on the hood and the edges of the roof. Since my SUV had always been serviced at Sheehan Buick. I was quoted around $5,200 to paint the hood and roof by Sheehan Cadillac. Sheehan Cadillac is where all Sheehan autos go for bodywork. The service writer at Sheehan Cadillac indicated that they were having the same problem with the Cadillac Escalades. My service writer at Sheehan Buick/GMC tried to get GM to repaint under warranty. GM’sanswer was big. NO. Not covered
Had it repainted at my expense for about $4,000, but now other areas on the sides are now flaking.
Have had GM or GMC or my life, never been a problem until now. Never again.
Have tried to sell the car and since everyone dealer knows about the paint/clearcoat problem, they low-ball the price.
I still have a 1998 suburban I order and took delivery in 1997 (24 years). 200k and the summit white paint on it is flawless. It has been cared for and kept under shelter all the time it is not being used. I suspect that certain paint colors are affected more than others.
Remember the gm gray paint that seem to always peel off way too soon. That was a problem with that color only. I have a new 2021 gmc yukon with beige gray paint. Hope it holds up with good care like the 1998
Time warp….
1980s: Clearcoat gone in 2 years, but rough paint stays.
1990s: Clearcoat gone in 2 years, but only thin layer of paint stays.
2000s: All bets off on clear coat and paint.
2010s: It’s almost like 1980s again.
My paint & body shop doesn’t want to touch it bcuz they say I’ll want to take it right back to them when it cracks and peels again months later. They don’t want to have a factory problem become their problem.
My 2014 Sierra started peeling paint 3 years ago and has rusted through the rocker panels on both sides.
Dealer said the repair for the rocker panels was over $7500.
How do we go about getting them to include the 2014 Sierra’s???
I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox LTZ V6 the paint is still good just one bottom fender is starting to rust… But it is an 12 year old vehicle I expect some rust but my paint never peeled or flaked… The paint is still great! I think part of the problem is a supplier issue whoever GM is buying the defective paint from should also be included in the lawsuit just like LG Chem was responsible for the faulty Volt Batteries.. and Alex the worst interiors?? My Interior is holing up just fine 12 years on my cousin has a 2008 Toyota it’s interior looks like crap all faded leather and buttons fading like the 1980’s!
I have a 2016 CT6 Cadillac that has streaks on the hood and faded paint on top. The hood looks like silk.
My 2015 GMC sierra did all the same things hood and door paint chipped off also what they’re failing to mention is rust!!!!!!! on the rocker panels and cab corners when I bought the truck there wasn’t a single ounce of rust anywhere after six months of owning it started to see bubbling in the paint then lead to rust. And will be completely rotted out within a year. I took it to multiple GM dealers I said we can fix it but it will cost $15,000 to fix it all out of pocket. So I still owe a Decent amount of money on the truck and basically stuck with it and the problems with it.
My 15 Silverado has paint peeling in sheets in the bed. I’ve never carried anything in the truck. The paint started to peel in the door jamb.
My 2008 Silverado has the paint falling off on the Hood, and cab roof. Dealer says it is normal [?] called GM and they just told me they have never heard of that, contact the dealer. What BS.
I have a 2017 Cheverolet Silverado LTZ want to know if I qualify since paint is blistering?
The paint, especially on the hood, on my 2020 red Buick Enclave started coming off in a few months after purchase. Most of them are about the size of a pinhead. Dealer said they were rock ships, but they definitely aren’t. When is GM going to allow the repainting of these vehicles with no cost to owner.
The top of my 2015 Chevrolet LTZ1 crew cab is totally peeled (clear coat). The doors are peeling along with spots on the quarter panels. Hood and tailgate are still ok. It was a good looking truck. Have been a Chevy man my whole life. Not sure anymore!
Well they have to cut corners somewhere ya know! Because lectrics
Does anyone know how to join this lawsuit?
I have a 2007 Yukon XL – love it! But the paint on my hood and the side body panels is fading, cracking, peeling, and chipping off despite my efforts at keeping it covered and waxed. I’m thinking of replacing the hood and body panels instead of repainting, but I’m concerned about matching the silver birch color.
I have 2014 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71 and my paint is missing on the passenger front fender my hood my roof top and now I see this I’m like wow hope they can add 2014 in there as well
2016 paint flaking off my silverado. Dude at dealer first said ‘no ain’t seen any of this’. I had showed him a few spots when he was taking pics he and said ‘oh no that’s a rock chip, the chipping usually has the green primer’. I said I thought that you hadn’t seen this before? After a deer in the headlights look that quickly changed to ‘well I saw the truck the other day’ then to ‘well we have a Goodwill program’…by this time I’m getting pissed…The Goodwill program is a 50/50 split on repair costs. However he said they run this warranty estimate thru mechanical shop as the labor is $150/180/hr vs $66 Paint shop labor. I’m like wait a minute. So the half of the labor cost would either 75 or 90 not 66 then right?! I couldn’t believe what he was saying to me and I don’t think he could believe what I had to say to him.. I love this truck and all of the other 7 Chevys I own but man this pisses me off.. how can we join lawsuit? Maybe some of us should start our own..I am not going to sit here and let this slide.
My new 2020 Red Quartz Tintcoat Buick Enclave started to have small specs of paint come off 5 months or sooner on the hood and a couple on the side. It has and is continuing to have more and more as time goes on. I am 73 years old and have had plenty of vehicles and usually keep them from 10-20 years. I have never had any of these vehicles’ paint come off like my new Buick Enclave. I am very disappointed that the dealership doesn’t at least agree that there is a paint problem, and that they are working with GM to resolve the problem for their customers. I would think that GM sales would go drastically down when the word gets out more to the potential new vehicle buyers.
I love my 2005 Colorado but the clear coat keeps peeling. I also have a oroblem with rusting frame.
This isn’t just 2015 and up its also the 2014. My truck had peeling paint around the windows and on the tailgate and also bubbling around the fenders. It’s a 14. I had it redone and needless to say it has to be redone again. It also depends on where you live and how much brine and salt they use during the winter months not to mention the car washes with literally erode your clear coat right off without you knowing it. The little things they don’t want you to know and ya keep going back for convenience
All gm vehicles has paint problems this is nothing new my 05 Silverado has the same problem they need to paint every vehicle
2018 Suburban with oxidation/milky and spider web looking swirling on hood and roof. We have had 4 Tahoes/Suburbans and this is the first that has done this. Previous years owned without issue 2003, 2007, 2010.
I am the original owner of a 2015 Siverado 2500 HD. Have always washed and kept clean. In NC we do not have harsh winters or salt on roads and my rear door started peeling around the window pillar just out of warranty as well. I have always kept my vehicles clean and detailed. Bad paint for sure. I hope GM will do something about this.
I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado White Diamond Pearl Tricoat and it’s peeling off around the rear door jambs where it meets the glass. And also on the Pillars. Any info on how to join the class action suit for this and also anyone have luck with a deal set ship fixing it?!
I have a 2015 GMC Sierra z71 with only 50,000 miles truck stays under shed paint is peeling on the hood and tail gate. I feel that GM should make it good . I will not purchase another GMC until they make it good
I have a 2014 Silverado that paint has been peeling off hood roof doors and fenders bought it new. Just about time for a new truck but if GM won’t repaint it I don’t know what I would buy next. I have been driving chevys since 1972 my kids also drive GM vehicles. If GM take care of the problem then we will stay with them. We will see what happens with this as dealers won’t even call me back
yep. My 2015 is peeling on hood and side rails. Local dealership said “sorry”
My wife is having similar problems with her 2020 Equinox. The dealer is now giving us the run-around.
But but it’s environmentally friendly so that should cover it. Just don’t question us as we are now woke
My 2019 Equinox paint is bubbling on my hood of my car. How do I become a part of this lawsuit. I’m not seeing Equinox on the list for this recall.
It’s obviously not just the vehicles listed. My 2021 GMC Acadia is doing this. The hood looks like a leopard. Beyond irritated and no clue how to even handle this or if they’ll even go about fixing the issue somehow.
My 2014 has bubbling and peeling on the passenger rear door.
My 2016 GMC Yukon XL, was beaautiful shiney black when I bought it. 57,000 miles now and it looks terrible. Hazy white on the hood, rooftop. Now the doors, just below the windows is turing a white hazy color. No shine left. Two detailers told me it cannot be improved, although one tried. The other wouldn’t try, stated it is bad paint job. Dealer, wrote a report, I filed with GMC corporate, they sent me to GMC California and the state it is off warranty, they are not responsible. The dealer needs to give them the estimate to repaint and they will consider if they are going to contribute. This is not a warranty issue, it is a poor paint issue. I expect more especially for $55,000. of my hard earned money.
I’m a Journeyman Painter/Restorer for 40 years…..I worked at Ford in the late 80’s and 90’s , the mid80’s F-series all had a similar problem. It’s from Bad adhesion to the E-coat..( several causes were found 1. was production line stops that let the
E-coat cure too long without re-scuffing before the topcoat was applied. 2. Mil. thickness of Topcoat (back then most were single stage paint not base/clearcoated). 3. by EPA new standards , Ovens had to be turned down to cure paints. ANY OR ALL OF THESE COULD BE TRUE, since Ford would admit NOTHING….GOD!! we stripped a lot of those old dogs down to bare metal back in the day., or we feathered the old paint down with 180grit…..(what stuck stayed) , then we primed with water-base ( as any solvent based material would cause lifting of the remaining paint. After that , the trucks were re-sanded down with DA-280, and 320 scuff pads. In the Booth they were coated with solvent based catalyzed sealer , base-coated and cleared twice.
NOW I’M STUCK ……60 year old , and don’t care to relive those days…..I’m doing 3 spot-ins on my 2014 Silverado today and it won’t stop flaking back.!! Mad as Hell at the moment……spent $50k on this truck in late 2014…..So this current lawsuit needs to include this year also. Other than that….. I happy with the Truck…..But this may drive me to sell it soon and let someone else deal with it.

2016 Chevy Trax – Defective Paint – Peeling off of hood and hatch.
I have a 2018 Chevy Impala Premier, and the paint on my rear bumper began to crack and peel and now it’s beginning to on my front bumper. I brought it back to the dealership in regards to the issue and just got a “sorry that happened”. My car was so beautiful when I purchased it now it looks terrible.
My 2015 black tahoe has faded paint on the hood and roof. Looks so awful! I hope this lawsuit will make them issue a recall.
I would like to get in on this class action suit. I have a 2016 pearl white high country that I’m steadily having to pay to have painted everytime a new spot peels.
How do I join the lawsuit? My 2015 High Country has paint peeling
2015 chevy silverado
Door paint peeling and above front glass
Took it to the people i got it from and i basically got a “things happen” and “Good luck”
Always been a chevy guy i hate for this to happen changes alot..
CHEVY TAKE ACTION AND MAKE THIS A RECALL.. KEEP THE CHEVY GUYS HAPPY SO WE CAN CONYINUE TO BUY CHEVYS
2015 Chevy Equinox
Paint started bubbling on back
Then around the front wheel wells now inside passenger doors
I got the response sorry it’s out of warranty
Obviously this is a huge problem
Many owners complaining about different models.
A recall would be great
Fix it
So disheartening when your auto is doing this
We’ve got a 2010 GMC Savana 1500. The paint is coming off of it like the skin on a Zombie. It looks like a complete POS now. Meanwhile, the paint on my 1986 Toyota Van with 500,000+ miles looks fine. And the tiny fridge in the console still makes ice.
My 2018 Equinox paint is peeling on the wheel wells on both sides in the front showing bare metal 88k kilometers in it when I noticed it. Warranty off at 60k. Interested to see if it is recalled. My other family members 2016 Equinox did the same. I
2016 GMC YUKON XL, entire hood/roof is oxidized and I take extremely good care of my cars for this to happen body shop wants $2500 to repaint which is absurd since my vehicle is only 6 years old .. my 2011 Tacoma looks like new. I want in on this lawsuit! a recall needs to happen
Same problem with my 2016 black Yukon XL. The dealer did say mine was one of the worst he had seen. He quoted a price and I contacted the GMC California resolution team. My car had 58000 miles on it when the paint became white and hazy, multiple detail companies stated its a defect paint job. Mine has it on the top and hood, and only one side of the car, on the door panels. Over $3000 for a new paint job that GM would contribute less than $300. A joke for sure. Now even my resale value is affected, during a time when good used cars are going for good prices. I called the law firm that has the class action suit and left my information and have never heard back from them.
Hi my name is Donnie Foster I have ac2015 chevy silverado double cab with only 54000 miles on it and my two right doors are bubbling up from the inside out in the middle of the doors I talked to the dealership and gm corporate office and they don’t want to fix it
Why are the terrains left off? I have a garage kept 2017 GMC Terrain with peeling paint! Seems like all their vehicles during that time period would have the same problem!
My 2019 Chevy Tahoe bubbled on the hood it started out the size of a quarter then the bubble popped and it started peeling. Took it to Chuck Fairbanks in DeSoto, Tx and they told me Chevrolet denied any help that a rock must have hit it and chipped the paint which then caused the peeling. I even sent a picture for them to see of the bubble before and after it popped.
I have a 2016 Trax with peeling paint, bright Previously peeled under the back glass, now on both sides of the hood How do I join the lawsuit?
All these suv and trucks with bubbling and peeling paint is unreal
Mine is a 2015 Equinox
Il be getting mine fixed the bubbling is leading to rust,
I’ll never buy another GM
My 2016 gmc denali color white … paint is peeling off of drivers door around the window for no apparent reason!!! Bubbles & cracks off ! No road stones
Also worth noting Toyota had a problem with peeling paint a few years back & told customers they could get the paint fixed at thir cost or if work was already done would reimburse customers!!! That’s how business should be done ! Maybe next truck should be a Toyota Tundra!
The paint on the hood and roof top on my 2016 Yukon XL is cracking and fading. I filed a complaint with the GM resolution Team and was basically “waved-off” with the remarks that it stems from the car wash, and since it is over the 12,000 mile warranty period nothing they can do!!! Shame on you GM!! Then they said that I can reach out again to the dealership and talk to them (I said the dealership sold it but is not the manufacturer !) , or get with my insurance and file a claim. What a joke!!! This is a manufacturer defect! Only the roof and hood are affected not the sides and I reiterated that to the “GM resolution specialist”. I guess another issue is that GM apparently does not want its cars professionally cleaned. What a joke blaming it on the car wash!! Very very disappointed as I come from a long standing loyal GM family! Shame on you GM!!!
Hi Kara, same problem with my 2016 black Yukon XL.
I have owned an 2016 Silverado from new. I have had good luck with the truck other than the paint. It is extremely thin with no strength. From new the truck had chips all over. Very very weak paint. I’ve never had paint on a vehicle so cheap and lousy
I have a 2022 Silverado with only 1600 miles, the paint is peeling on the passenger side of the hood on the corner and on both fenders not visible when the hood is closed only at certain angles, pretty much not noticeable unless you’re really looking. I know what rock chips look like and I don’t see how a rock can chip the paint on both fenders when the hood is closed! I believe this truck is experiencing the same problems as the ones that are in this lawsuit.
My 2016 Yukon looks horrible due to the pain peeling off. When I first noticed it, it just looked like someone used a Brillo pad on my hood. When I took it to the dealership they told me it was defective paint and that I would have to pay over $3600 to have it repaired. They emailed the corporate office to see if they would cover any of it and I was told the declined. There is no way paint should be peeling off of such an expensive vehicle only 4 years in. At this point I will have to pay to have it fixed as it looks very unattractive.
My 2004 Silverado has been pealing paint since 2005. Chevy favorite answer is really never heard about this before.
My point is falling off my door jams of my 2021 trsilboss that has 6500 miles on it. It’s unreal
My point is falling off my door jams of my 2021 trsilboss that has 6500 miles on it. It’s unreal.gm does not seem willing to help
It’s terrible we as usa buying people have to go through this. Are they are they not covering the damages
My 2015 Chevy equinox is bubbling and rusting now because of the bubbling, my equinox is white I wonder what the other colors are that bubble and flake off.
I’ll never buy another GM again their lack of concern for this problem is ridiculous
Not sure why the 2014 Chevy Silverado’s didn’t get included I have that same issue with my Ltz came of the line late 2014 and have multiple areas where the paint bubbles and or already peeled off
Bought a new 2014 Silverado and had the rear panel above the taillight peeling, was told that it is from rock chips. Re painted at my cost. Now drivers rear door peeling around the glass. No warranty. The primer is green and I can peel the paint with my fingernail. No adhesion at all. Wish this class action included 2014 vehicles.
Own a 2014 gmc Diamond White, drivers door both front and back plus passenger side also peeled. $2000. 00 paint labour. I guess that what happens when built in Mexico!
My wife has a 2020 Traverse that the front of looks like she follows gravel trucks daily, its chipped up so bad and all she does is drive around town. I just got a 2022 Silverado that I have had for a month and over a weekend had it parked outside while we were camping and got at least a 100 water spots on the hood and cab that ate the clear coat to a point you would have to wet sand and reapply clear coat to fix it. So chevy hasn’t fixed their paint issues. I’m so disappointed. Especially after I waited 6 months to get the pickup after I ordered it.
I have a 21015 Chevy Tahoe. The hood and roof of the car look horrible…..clear coat is gone and the paint looks awful!!! Who do I contact to have Chevy/GM correct this problem. I should not have to pay out of my pocket to get the car repainted!!!
I have a 2007 Denali Envoy and the paint is bubbling on the back bumper. Is this included in the lawsuit? Should I contact the dealer? Thanks for any advice!
Still waiting to find out how to become a member of the lawsuit. Does anyone have any information yet? 2015 Silverado High Country. Paint peeling of of the front passenger windshield post.
My dad’s 2019 Chevy Equinox has bubbling paint on the edge of hood.
Our 2013 GMC Sierra has a huge area on the roof that has peeled away. Also peeling around the rear window frame. GMC dealer affirmed it was a a bad paint job but too bad GMC doesn’t care. We were quoted $1500 just for a roof pain job. how can we get this year included in the class action lawsuit?
My 2016 Yukon Denali with 23000 miles paint on hood, roof and side panels has swirling marks which are awful. The car had clear coat applied to prevent the similar problem we had with a prior Yukon. Was told this would prevent a paint problem upon purchase. Not getting very far with dealership.
I have a 2016 Spark with white paint and over half my hood, about a quarter of the roof starting from rear hatch and going forward, the front of my roof just above the windshield as well as around the gas door the paint has already flaked completely off and more comes off every time I drive it. I can’t even rinse the car off with a garden hose without more paint flaking off.
I have a 2016 Tahoe LT, owned and cared for from new, and the paint has been like crap for about 3 years now. GM offered me $4k towards a new GM, but my trade in value is in the garbage because of the horrific paint job. The black paint starts to fade, the looks like it’s been washed with a wire brush. First the hood, the the roof, now the side panels and doors are going. GM won’t cover it and neither will the warranty I purchased with the vehicle.
I’d like my name added to the suit. Any idea how to do that?
My 2016 Suburban looks like it got beat up. Hood, roof and some side panels are losing the clear coat, and it’s bad. My former, 2002 Suburban never had any of this. GM needs to step up for this total of 30+ years customer. Is there any use contacting GM directly, or only hope the classaction goes through?
has there been an issue reported with Impalas? I am having same issue with my 2018 Impala, Roof and hood, started about a month ago.
I’ve seen many comments from owners with GM autos / trucks with bubbling paint.
But that’s it just comments
my 2017 silverado has had nothing but issues.
i have had to replace my radiator, a/c compressor, ball joints, paint is peeling near the rear windows, transmission heat sensor harness (?) had to be replaced, brakes are shuddring. it’s a mess.
My 2011 Silverado LT has recently started to do the same peeling as my 2009 Silverado. I thought they might have fixed it that’s why I got another Silverado. It’s frustrating. I tried to keep it good looking by washing often but now it looks like a beater car with paint missing.
i have a 2017 Chevy Malibu and the paint is peeling as well so it’s not just the trucks and SUV’s. I hope GM fix this issue. I’m so disappointed. I need me car paint fixed. I certainly need to now to get added to the lawsuit. Does anyone have information on this?
Has anyone been successful in joining the class action? I have been following this for a few months and have seen several owners ask how to join but never see any replies with actual way to become a party to the suit.
I’ve reached out to one of the law firms representing a plaintiff but havent heard anything back
I would like to know as well, as my dad’s 2019 Chevy equinox has bubbling paint at the lip of the hood.
I have 2010 Chevy equinox! I’m relieved to see that this is a problem with GMC because I was about to go crazy thinking someone was doing something to my car! Paint started peeling around 4 years ago started with the top coat then 2 yrs later the paint start coming up in sheets and underneath was rusty! I had the roof of my car painted in Dec. 2020. The paint has started to peel up again on the roof and last month paint on the hood bubbling up and came off in sheets! This is so embarrassing, I want to get a new car but it’s not in my budget at this moment.
I have a 2021 Chevrolet 2500 it’s 2 years old the clear coat on the hood is coming off it’s ridiculous . I turned it in to my local Chevy dealer where I bought the truck and he said they denied it they won’t fix it
I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 and it just started this year to peel. This is my second Silverado, my first was whit too which also peeled and bubbled up. I thought when I bought my second one that they had fixed the problem but nooooo. I have been a Chevy fan for a very long time but that has changed with these two trucks. I loved my trucks until the paint flakes off.
I have a 2009 Avalanche, the rust is so bad especially under . I already had to have lines and hoses repaired cause they were leaking( I don’t hydroplan or mudding ot drive on salt roads in winter cause I am from ND where they use sand and or dirt.
The 2016 Spark, paint on top half of hood towards the windshield and roof towards to back half has came off all the way to the metal.
What do we do to become a part of this lawsuit? My 2017 GMC Yukon XL looks like someone has taken a brillo pad to the hood and roof of it and I know for sure no one has done this to my vehicle. I am very particular about it. I ‘d be selling it about right now if the paint was not like this. Now I HAVE TO SPEND OVER 2k to fix it. It makes me sick.
My 2010 white 2500 chevy express van has peeled in the front and passenger side. Which has peeled quite a bit..How can I get involved in this class action suit. We all paid a lot of money for these vehicles and should not be stuck with this defective paint job. I only have 85,000 miles on the van. Nobody wants to buy it looking the way it looks.
2016 GMC Yukon Denali: hood and roof peeling, fading, small chunks of paint falling off, has anyone been reimbursed or gotten their cars fixed by GM??
i have a2017 chevy silverado crew cab paint peeling on drivers side 9 spots biger than a silver dallar i have 6 new chevy trucks in my life and nune of them have had the problems that i have had with this truck $4000 in repairs this year a loan dont think i will be buying a nother chevy again bad paint and they dont want to fix it if we would do a bad job on our jobs we would be fired my son and i both bought 2017 chevy silverados in 2017 and are not happy with them
I am having an issue with my 2021 Blazer with the paint bubbling and then pealing. GM and the dealer came back and told me it was an environmental problem and wasn’t covered and I would have to fix it myself. Oh and did I mention I’m leasing it and stated having the issue when I had it just a little over a year. Just love they won’t stand by their products and make it right by fixing it. So it doesn’t surprise me they have a law suit against them.
Yeah my 2017 suburban looks amazing all around till you get to the hood it if if almost looks like it was poorly prepped before pair and clear was added
Is there a way we can know what is going on with this case? If they will do a recall for all affected vehicles. I am also expressing chipping on bumper peeling on hood. GM said there is no recall for it and it would be an out of pocket expense. Is there a way to join the lawsuit
Phone for the class action suit…………(407) 839-0866
So I have a 2015 work truck and a 2016 ltz double cab both chevy 2500 has 4×4 8’beds. The 2015 has paint peeling off everytime we wash it. The 2016 has paint bubbling up towards the bottom of vehicle and inside doors where u step in to the truck…. such bs these are both used for our business and this just passes me off. In fact my 2015 had new torque converter installed in it b4 30,000 miles. Then just had my 2016 torque converter go out at 90,000 so I went ahead and put a brand new entire transmission in it definitely is bs that chevy doesnt stand by there products.
I want in on this. 2016 Silverado pearl white peeling on hood and around windows. How do we go about getting in contact with the attorneys over this suit?
My 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab started bubbling at 5-1/2 years and is now peeling off. I called GM several times but got no help. Very dissatisfied
I have a 2010 Chevy express van my paint is peeling in big sections. It started in the front of the van,I have a lot of grey primer showing. It also has peeled on the passenger side at the sliding door. My van looks like hell. I paid a lot of money for this van. GM must be held liable for these shotty paint jobs.Something sure went wrong with either the primer or the paint or their process in painting these vehicles.we all need to be compensated
My 2017 Yukon in black is fading bad how can I get in on the lawsuit?
Would love to find this out too.
Call the Maher Law Firm on 407 839 0866 to add yourself to the lawsuit
Hi iam Donnie my truck is a 2015 chevy silverado double cab with only 58000 miles and my 2 passenger side doors are bubbling from the inside out the dealer said its not there fault my truck stills looks brand new with only 58000 miles on it the paint should not be doing that I will join any law suit to get this taken care of
My 2015 GMC Yukon looks like someone has run a razor blade over the entire hood and the top of the truck. How do I get in on the law suit. My vehicle is detailed once a week. I have it scheduled to be painted 1/19/2023 and would like more information before I spend 3k to have the hood and roof redone.
Call the Maher Law Firm on 407 839 0866 to add yourself to the lawsuit
Hi Mr. Fraser,
Are you affiliated with the Maher Law Firm, and if so, are Chevy Trax owners being included in the class yet?
Thanks!
No, I’m in no way affiliated with them. I just wanted EVERYONE with the delaminating paint issue to blow them up so the law suit has more leverage. I’ve fought with GM for years on this and believe they should fix what they did wrong.
Same. I called them and added my name to their data base, but they weren’t including Chevy Trax at that time. I gave up and sold that POS to WhipFlip. Took quite a hit, but that model had several other issues as well, and wasn’t even drivable at 80K. I couldn’t even trade it in for more than scrap. The whole reason I even bought it was because my son walked away unscathed from an accident in which the Chevy he was a passenger in was totaled. So much for customer loyalty, I’ll never buy a GM vehicle again!
My 2011 Gmc Sierra .
Blistering and peeling on thee hood, roof , and pillars.
Love this truck .
Rides smoothly, quiet, seat are comfortable plenty of power.
Only 80742 miles.
Sure would like to get in on this suit and get it repainted.
I ordered my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab … Absolutely love the truck…. It’s never spent a night outside it’s always been in a garage… I’ve got the Sonoma red … The clear coat started coming off in 2016… After several attempts at the dealership to figure out what was going on… They basically Showed me the door… I have owned at least 15 Chevrolet and GMC trucks blazers etc…. In the early eighties the paint was peeling off them as well… You would think that they had it figured out by 2015… Cannot stand the idea of going to the other side ,,because I love my gm product but I’m not sure now…. Very frustrated in Salt Lake City Utah
My $70K 2016 GMC Sierra 3500 paint just started flaking off on the rear door. Nothing hit it just started to bubble and flake. How does someone join the lawsuit? This is ridiculous and on the heals of finding out about a fuel pump issue on this model motor that has the potential to cause $10K in damage…..
My 2015 silverado has the paint peeling too on both sides around the door windows,
I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe same issue with paint as well, and i am asking how did you get this resolved, or fixed. Paint on hood and top of Tahoe is spidering and starting to flake as well.
I called this number Phone for the class action suit…………(407) 839-0866 and they said not till summer that they are going to court out the paint issue. you need to call to have you name added to the lawsuit so if anything happens you will be notified
My 2015 Cadillac Escalade and 2018 GMC Sierra (just starting) both have paint issues. The dealer said, it is a “Manufacturer defect but out of warranty”. I paid to have the Escalade repainted. $$$. Now here we go again with the Sierra. Paint peeling up on the roof. SMH GM.
My low mileage GMC Yukon the hood and roof paint has deteriorated significantly over the past few must and I take very good care of this vehicle and this is my 2nd GMC Yukon in the past couple of years due to an accident that totaled my last one. This is very upsetting. I hope GMC makes this right
I wish it would get done with already my Silverado is getting worse as the months go by.
2015 gmc denali paint falling off on own
I also, do not understand why the 2014 Sierra, like I own, is not included in this lawsuit. i admit that I haven’t spent the time and effort that many have, involved i this suit. The 2014 year has the same exact problem, was painted by the same manufacturer as the models and years mentioned. i want to know how to get the year 2014 included. If you’re going to hold a company liable for their actions, why not cover every gm truck with the identical problem with the same exact paint and problem?
2010 Silverado has always been very well taken care of!!!! Paint bubble and chip on hood 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 trying to figure out if there is a recall on it. I have seen that some years have recall.. HELP PLEASE
My 2007 Yukon is also chipping and peeling – but I’m more upset about the OnStar Sunsetting my service. Why isn’t that a class action suit??? If there is one please send the link to join. When I bought my yukon new in 2007 nothing was ever mentioned about the possibility of losing OnStar service. There should be an upgrade option. I’ve been a subscribing customer for 15 years. 🤬
I got a 2015chevy silverado double cab with only 59000 miles on it and my to right side doors are bubbling from the inside out I got ahold of gm and they did not want to do anything about it
Same issues with my GMC 2015 Sierra. Paint started peeling slowly, now peeling in sheets … Local GMC dealer says not their responsibility. Called GMC and they won’t fix t he issue either…
I am literally washing the paint of my Silverado (2500 Duramax) with a garden hose… VERY INTERESTED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! PLEASE CONTACT ME
My 2021 Chevy equinox has paint bubbling up in two different places on my trunk area.
2019 Equinox started to bubble on the hood.Called GM and got nowhere!
The paint on my Red 2008 Silverado 1500 started bubling at year 5 and has mostly peeled off by now. I tried calling the dealseship and all they would say is that it was no longer under warranty. back then I tried calling and writing GM over a 3 year period but eventually I got shot down but was offered a discount “coupon” off the price of a brand new truck, I kindly declined. Why would I buy a new truck and spend much more money for a vehicle with the same paint issues??? Why cant GM do the right thing and make good on all these bad paint jobs??
How many of you here have a GMC that is out of Texas? I am wondering if this faulty paint is stricktly out of a certain paint plant. I left a message for the law office handling the lawsuit. Have not heard a word back.
Becky
I bought my equinox in Tennessee
I bought mine from frisco texas
I bought my GMC 2016 Yukon XL in California, but it was out of Texas. Wondering if this is a faulty paint plant there. Becky
I tried calling gmc customer service to try and get mine fixed but they told me to call my insurance company even though it should still be under warranty. It has less than 14000 miles on it.
I wish I had a law suit for my 3012 Buick Verino paint on roof, hood and trunk paint looks bad paint and shine is gone GM did a bad job on the paint job GM needs to include this car also.
My
My 2015 90000 mile the paint is pilling off
Is gm ever going to responsible for these problems its no a new think it just continues to be a problem fix it !
Same thing here…2015 GMC Sierra 1500…pint is peeling all over; roof of the csb, doors, side panels…looks embarrassing.. how do we get in on the class action lawsuit?
How do I get added to this suit I’m in SD my vehicle is a 2018 tahoe and it’s from the Texas plant. Chevy doesn’t seem to care either imo they keep passing the buck.
Does anyone have more information on the lawsuit? My 2018 clearcoat is pealing all over the place.
This is the same thing mine is doing
My 2005 trailblazer has had repairs to the passenger side quarter panel and rear passenger door, hood and rear door. All areas are peeling the top coat. All repairs were done at the dealership where the vehicle was purchased and they say they will not stand behind the paint job unless I can provide the original paperwork.
Hi everyone, first of all thank you so much to the author for this article. Does anyone know if there have been any updates to the lawsuit or who we can contact for this? The hood and top of my 2017 Yukon has completely deteriorated in regard to the paint. It’s an eyesore, I contacted GM and they said due to my mileage being outside to 36,000 miles, they can only contribute a limited amount and offered 10% of the paint job or $190. What a joke I’m infuriated. If anyone has any contacts on how I can advocate for attention to this disservice, I’d appreciate it.
I have a 2016 Chevy Trax and of course, the same issues. Around the entire front and rear windshields. Front and back quarter panels. A big bubbling, flaking mess.
2017 Sierra 2500 truck extended cab – Black 45,000 miles
Paint started bubbling and now also chipping on rear driver door. How do I get GM to cover the repair? Wait until law suit is resolved? How do i join the class action lawsuit? What is this door is repaired and then more areas start bubbling and chipping?
not related to this but transmission failed in 1st year at 11,000 miles and was replaced when it could not be fixed by the dealer.
I have always bought GM trucks but getting aggravated with the quality.

Hi Richard, I know if you take it to your local gmc dealership they’ll submit a claim but gmc will only pay fraction of the cost for this issue if your vehicle is over 36,000 miles. I’d also like to join the lawsuit. Not sure how to get ahold of the author or anyone else.
Richard, I contacted my local dealership and they submitted ticket to GMC. Since your
much closer to 36k than me they might pay a significant portion of the repair. Worth a shot to see? I’m about 35k over and they’d pay 10% of paint repair, for me that’s nothing but I’m sure percentage would be much larger for you.
Good luck!
My 2013 gmc sierra 1500 only has 118k kms and I have the issue with the paint peeling off above the windshield. How do I join this class action lawsuit?
My 2015 GMC Denali paint is peeling on the side of my truck. Is there a recall or something that can be done to fix it?
My 2016 White GMC Sierra 2500 HD has paint peeling on the bottom right drivers rear door window area. Isee the same issue on most of the white Chevy/GMC trucks.
Yes my 2015 Chevy Silverado crew cab is doing the same thing.
Gm doesn’t care guys…2018 tahoe owner here they don’t care! This lawsuit won’t go anywhere imo
My 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 has paint peeling off the upper back sill of the back seat windows. It’s just bubbling and peeling off. There is no adherence to the primer! My truck looks brand new inside and out and this is devastating to me and will also devalue my truck.
My 2019 Equinox started to bubble on the hood and I called GM complaint line. The lady I spoke with said there is nothing they can do unless it goes completely through the hood within 7 years which is the warranty on paint. She gave me a 100.00 voucher for any service I would need on the vehicle, bid deal.
2016 suburban has been doing the same thing. Scratches and dull on the hood and roof. No matter what I try to use to make it look better, doesn’t work. Looks like trash. I had a Honda for 12 years and it never did that.
I was told today that my 2018 Duramax Sierra All Terrain bumper peeling and bubbling was due to “environmental circumstances” that are out of the control of GM. It’s criminal that I have to pay for their defect. GM case # 4-30904804926
***Lawsuit Update***
I just called the Maher Law Firm in FL to see if there is any update on the lawsuit. Unfortunately there is no update as of now as the case is not scheduled to hit the courts until the end of July. I also asked about the procedure if I were to trade my Tahoe in (and lose my ass doing so), she said I’d no longer be part of the lawsuit, and whoever the owner is would be part as long as they have registered. So basically I’m stuck driving a POS until this thing gets resolved.
In the meantime, if anyone else has the paint issues on the vehicles listed in the class action, but HAS NOT registered with the suit, make sure YOU REGISTER WITH THEM. Call the Maher Law Firm on 407-839-0866, they are really helpful.
My 2015 gmc yukon hood and roof complete top clear coat gone…no shine just matte look….it looks terrible
2015 GMC Sierra paint is peeling.
I have a 2014 High Country I bought new. Always clean and detailed. Silver. Paint is peeling in sheets. How do I join the lawsuit?
2016 Sierra White Frost Tricoat is peeling in three separate spots. Most of the damage started since 2020 when I started WFH. What I find truly disappointing is it still goes to the dealer for oil changes and inspections and not once do they comment on it. So I paid extra for the color that is now flaking away.
Any updates on this?! My barely 3/4 year old Denali looks pitiful with the amount of paint peeling/coming off… And it’s well looked after
Gm doesn’t care regardless of how new your vehicle is if it’s over the warranty mileage your SOL
No answers on this site for this problem
Can’t get an answer from the lawsuit people either
I posted an update about 2 weeks ago. Spoke to Maher Law who are co counsel for the law suit, they said it is due to hit the courts in late July.
Thanks for the info . I have a 2015 Chevy Trax and they told me that they would not cover it. I told them that I didn’t buy the car until 2019 so I want something done . They said all they will do is spray paint the peeling spots and call it done . That is such a crock of crap .
My 2016 Silverado in slate gray is doing the same thing they won’t do nothing for me. It started with only 7000 mi on it what $hit!!
My 2012 white Silverado has paint peeling off everywhere. Is there a lawsuit that I can get in on?
I called the number in Florida and talked to their office. I have a 2014 and was told that I fell short of this lawsuit. I am to watch the outcome of this one to see where I can go from there. I am not happy at all with Chevy/GM.
I HAVE A 2017 ACADIA ONLY 39000 K ON IT AND IT’S CLEAR COAT IS PEELING ON THE LEFT UPPER DOOR AND THE DOOR PILLER
I called this number Phone for the class action suit…………(407) 839-0866 and they said sometime end of July 2023 and could take some time that they are going to court out the paint issue. you need to call to have you name added to the lawsuit so if anything happens you will be notified
Yeah the longer this lawsuit is dragging the worse my truck is getting..
I have a 2012 Buick Verino with paint issues clear coat is almost off will nerved buy a GM vechile again is their anything I can do to fix this issue
I have the same problem on my 2016 Chevy Suburban. I contacted the dealer and they basically said it was not covered under the warranty and they wouldn’t help me. This was not a cheap car! I have been saying how I feel robbed. Selling this vehicle at over 50k with a known defect is basically theft!
Remember the paint job problems of the 80’s ?
We are going to go thru it all over again and I do not see it being tied to just the trucks. I think it will be affecting every vehicle in the gm line up. Just my opinion!!!
My 2019 Colorado is having this same issue does it qualify
I have a 2017 sierra 2500 HD ext cab.Black
Just turned 45,000 miles
Driver side rear door bubbling last couple months now paint is chipping off. How do I get on the class action suit?
No reason this should happen
I have a black 2008 yukon gmc I purchased new. Have taken very good care of the vehicle, however the roof, sides of hood and other areas on vehicle are peeling, bubbling and look awful! GMC owes me a paint job!
My $78,000.00 Chevy Suburban looks like crap. The clear coat is off the hood and roof. Its garage kept and with 32,000 miles on it. They knew about the issue. Shame on Mary Barra,
Your under 35k. Miles contact chevy your under the 35k warranty claim…maybe you’ll actually get help fixing yours. They told me if I was under the 35k bumper warranty still I would get help fixing it.
Likely won’t be covered as they exclude paint. Hence the class action lawsuit.
The GMC dealership in Fort McMurray will not take a second to even talk to me about the paint peeling and rust holes in my 2017 GMC suburban
My truck is a 2015 chevy silverado double cab and my paint is doing the same thing with only 63000 miles on it its still like new and gm won’t fix it I would like to join the law suit

I have 2015 Yukon XL that is completely rusted on both sides of back doors. Any open lawsuit against GMC for this?
Had my 2013 Tahoe painted 2 years ago with my own money after being told by my insurance company that it was normal wear and tear. Now that is failing. Just found out about this recall, but it seems a 2013 Tahoe is not in the mix.
Get it done and overwith already why is it dragging on and on..
My Silverado is a2014 and it was bought a couple of years old then the rear paint on the left quarter started bubbling ,so I left it like that ,so when I ship it back to the manufacturing plant they could take a good look at it along with my Lawyers..
The hood and roof of my 2017 Tahoe is bad
2019 Silverado. It’s had 3 years of Zantac protection. Now that it isn’t under warranty, the sealer is separating from the paint. I would like to join a class action suite
2016 Malibu premier and 2016 Sonic Premier are both doing it. So far my 2918 Tahoe isn’t but probably will. 98 camaro paint is great aside from the sail.
My 2014 Chevy Silverado is bubbling, peeling, and flaking off. Driving down the road, paint falls off. I went to my dealership and told them the problem. They looked up my vin and said the paint is not the issue. Very Disappointed. Never own a Chevy again!
2014 gmc 3500hd cab chassis peeling and rusting at the cab lights and at the 3rd brake light.
Get ready
The rest is yet to peel
What have folks been doing to make repairs themselves? I’m getting outrageous quotes to repaint my 2014 truck here in Reno
Mine is the size of a 50 cent piece
1000.00. 🙁
Mine is on the rear quarters on my 2014 silverado, doors and hood and I was told to install fender flares on the rear quarters to hide the bubbling paint..
Mine is on the rear quarters on my 2014 silverado, doors and hood and I was told to install fender flares on the rear quarters to hide the bubbling paint.. New Ford F-250 hete I come..
Meanwhile Cadillacs of the same year which is a higher end version (or at least more expensive) isn’t part of the class action… Mine looks oxidated at the top just after 3 years
My 2016 Malibu Premier and Daughters 2016 Sonic Premier also have hood and roof paint issues.
The paint on the hood of my blue 2015 Buick Encore started peeling in 2021. I purchased the car in 2018. I contacted the dealership I purchased it from and they said it wouldn’t be covered because the warranty was out.
I’m in Ontario, Canada and have a 2017 Yukon XL, paint is chipping of and down to bare metal in multiple places. Very disappointed in the paint quality. Should be recalled!!!!
I have been dealing with them now for almost 2 years and am yet to get a response from them
2015 GMC Denali i2500 diesel truck. Same issues as most GMC/Chev vehicles paint is popping off and pealing. Dealership more less give me finger. In the market for new truck noting near GMC/Chev They manger would not even come and talk i guess is hear and saw the problem too too too often
2016 Black Chevrolet Suburban ~ Hood and top are grayish due to oxidation. Have a 2002 Suburban, and it’s paint looks better!
I own a 2017 GMC Sierra. I purchased this vehicle as a retirement vehicle hoping it would last a while. Paint is peeling , transmission shifts hard and erratic. Lifters needed to be change and shocked went bad. All in all spent about 6000 dollars so far. What a disappointment
I have a 2017 Chevy Suburban that started turning oxidized on the hood and roof after 3 years. It’s not peeling yet, just has a whitish matte look, and the color is dark metallic grey. How can I get added to the lawsuit?
Have the same issue on my 2016 Tahoe. I’m hoping to get added to the lawsuit.
Cheap paint normally don’t stick to plastic
Let me know if you find out!
When is it going to finalize aleready my truck is peeling even worse..
This is ongoing for a long time now , and is getting more and more ridiculous, but it’s ok to pay the high prices that’s being asked for these things on wheels new F-150 for this year ..
I finally gave up. Traded the 2016 Tahoe in on an F150 Raptor and don’t think I’ll ever go back to GM. Good luck to you all with the lawsuit – I just couldn’t wait it out any longer
My 2016 Sierra 1500 rear door is peeling. Does this law suit cover us poor Canadians!!
GM went thru this back in the 80’s. Anyone is past the 3 and 36 in my opinion will never see a dime!!!
I had the same thing happen to a Chevy Corsica I owned in the 90’s. The paint on the flat surfaces had blistered and peeled. I went to several Chevy dealerships who told me since my car car was out of warranty there was nothing they could do for me. The service manager at the last dealership I went to gave me a 800 number to a GM Clearing Center. I called the number and they informed me that my paint issue was traced to one plant and they authorized repainting of the flat surfaces. I’m glad the buck stopped with somebody. lol
Pretty upsetting, 04’ tahoe Z71 paid a hefty price right off the lot. I’ve taken excellent care, washed every Sunday for 20 yrs, no chips. Until Just this winter ……….. first freeze. paints coming off the size of paper no prior bubbling or chips. Super sad day.
The paint on the hood and roof of my 2023 chevy 1500 is blistering. The biggest is about 3 inches and the rest are the size of a pinhead. The pinhead sized ones must number in the thousands. The blend in and are hard to see, until you see that first one and then rest jump out at you.
MY 2015 GMC 2500 HD Denial paint is just peeling off. Just wondering if anyone got paint repairs on this issue?
2017 Escalade with 68k in Georgia
Roof paint is cracked and fading
Both mirrors have paint peeling
No reason the paint should be this bad
Just noticed that the passenger side door panels are starting to fade. This is on my 2016 Tahoe which already has the hood and roof paint fading. Absolutely embarrassing to be driving a 2016 Tahoe that looks like it’s 30yrs old. GM should really be ashamed.
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado that the paint is coming off in big hunks. I bought the extended warranty and still GM won’t help. I’d like to see another law suit to include more years please. I’d join it. Meanwhile, be warned.
GMC and anything with chev etc I’m now the owner of Ford and my spouse gone Dodge. It does matter that GMC is history over some paint. Join me F GMC . It will matter to GMC over time
Well that’s not gonna happen. Ford has way more electrical and engine issues than GM and Dodge is just garbage. It does suck the paint is garbage but I would rather repaint my Chevy then constantly have to fix a Ford or Dodge.
The class action lawsuit filed against General Motors LLC, concerning the peeling paint on trucks and SUVs, including the 2017 GMC Yukon, has been dismissed with prejudice. This decision came after a stipulation of dismissal by the plaintiffs, which includes Gary Ambrose, Sherry Kilburn, Tom Riley, and Heather Shrum. As a result of this dismissal, all pending motions were denied as moot, and all deadlines and hearings were terminated. The case was officially closed by Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. on December 29, 2023
Is this all class action suits? Are there other ones?
I have a 2018 Buick Encore that I was every week and wax every 6 months and my paint on my hood is starting to peel. I understand that there is a class action lawsuit pending against GM but my car is not on the list. What kind of resource do I have!
Thanks
I called the law firm and was told they lost the lawsuit. It was dropped.
Are they going to appeal? This really rubs…. last GMC I ever buy what a joke
I agree 100 percent
Time for everyone to post their pictures to social media and put pressure on GMC
A GMC manger would not even take a look at my truck. No warranty on this he said. GMC is out for me and I intend to trade in the summer of 24. I have told and showed and lot of people about GMC crabby paint job.
2015 GMC SIERRA Z71. PAINT PEELING OFF AROUND THE WINDSHEIL AND BOTH BACK DOORS. YOU CAN SEE PIECES COMING OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD. CAN’T TAKE IT THROUGH A CAR WASH BECAUSE IT WOULD BLOW MORE OFF. THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR THESE TRUCKS, IT SEEMS LIKE THEY WOULD HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF PRIDE IN THEIR WORK.
I do know that when you try to use you spotted car your trade in is cut in half . It is like trying to trade in a wrecked car . Dealers don’t give you much for your trade in. I will not take that big of a drop in trade in because of some lazy people that doesn’t do their jobs right . They are paid good money to do their jobs . Might as well hire kindergartners to paint their cars .
My 2015 Chevrolet Duramax 3500 LTZ looks like it was painted on a Friday afternoon of a long weekend around the rear door window trims … guess a 100k didn’t include a decent paint job .. must be a extra option
you paid a 100k for a ’15 model? that aside, it is ridiculous that these vehicles fade and peel so easily. i just dumped my ’14 LT Dmax for under book, due to about a dozen rust spots around the marker lights on top of the cab. When i was spec’ing out my new truck earlier this summer, the GM website showed that any color BESIDE plain white is a $495 extra charge. Guessing that might be that many of their white ones are purchased as part of fleets – and those purchasers don’t care if the paint peels… so they get the garbage cheap white paint job. The rest of us…. we get bent over for another $500, just to get a better quality paint job.
Yep, I even went for the zantac. And it peeled right after I was finished with my 3 years
I purchased a new Chevy Silverado 1500 in July 2017. The paint on the roof is flaking and peeling off. The paint job should last 10 to 15 years – no on mine. Does any one know who to contact or do we just read the monthly newsletter for updates.
Seems like
the lawsuit was dismissed. I have Summit white peeling paint on a 2016 GMC Denali truck same exact spot as the photo, rear door drivers side at the window crevice. Anyone know if a paint job on this panel resolved it or does paint start to peel everywhere ?
Unfortunately it will peel everywhere! Mine has gone from the hood, to the top of the cab, the doors, fenders and the bed. I hate that they dismissed the lawsuit!!
Everywhere
Folks we live in a Social Media driven society. Even though the lawsuit was dismissed we can still make our voices heard. Use Facebook, X (twitter I’m sure Elon would be interested in this one), Instagram TikTok local news stations anything to get the message out there how GMC is ignoring us. They’re watching all this stuff. They do not want their reputation to be tarnished. This is the only way that they’ll listen. Start posting today!
Our 2014 paint is peeling. Our 2005 paint is perfect. GMC definitely change some thing and they should be held accountable how many people want to start a lawsuit?

I have 2014 silverado 1500 highcountry and the paint is peeling off all over the truck. GM should do a better job, if they want anyone to buy another high end truck from them.
They don’t care!
I have a 2015 suburban and the hood and top of my truck had faded. I called Chevy’s office and was told there are no recalls, so nothing could be done. Has anyone had any luck getting help?
My 2019 Silverado HD2500 crew cab just started with the paint peeling last month by the passenger rear window. I’m definitely feeling the pain here as this should not be happening on a five year old truck!
Ok is there any real news on class action?
I am curious on how to jump on the class action lawsuit and file a claim?
Never mind. I just saw the comment in this thread that the case was dismissed without prejudice.
My 2019 Tahoe has started to blister and peel paint on the hood. The dealership says they have no knowledge of any problems…such liars! This will be THE LAST Chevrolet I ever buy new, bet on that.
Our paint is bad also on 2916 chevrolet silverafo
The hood of my 2017 Suburban looks terrible.
