The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban arrive as the second model year for the all-new SUV nameplates, which includes the fifth-generation Tahoe and the twelfth-generation Suburban. Now, GM Authority has learned that both SUVs are currently unavailable to order with the Rear-Seat Media System.
The Rear-Seat Media System for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban is tagged with RPO code UW9, and will be unavailable to order for the rest of the 2022 model year. It’s unclear at this time why the feature is no longer available.
The Rear-Seat Media System includes dual rear seat-mounted 12.6-inch diagonal color-touch LCD HD screens, as well as Wi-Fi wireless projection capability, two Bluetooth-capable headphones, and two HDMI ports located on the back of the center console.
Previously, the Rear-Seat Media System was optional on LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country trim levels, but not the LS. Pricing for the Rear-Seat Media System was set at $1,995.
As GM Authority already covered, GM made a few changes to its Rear Seat Media System for the 2022 model year by dropping some features. This includes deletion of the Navigation feature, which allowed users to view the vehicle location and search points of interest. What’s more, GM changed the USB-C ports to only provide charging, whereas before the ports would provide a wired connection to stream music. Finally, the Miracast screen mirroring feature was also deleted, which previously allowed users to mirror content from a separate phone or tablet screen.
As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Chevy Suburban are offered with three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three engines pair with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive available.
Under the skin, both vehicles ride on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

Honestly… It was not that great of an interface anyways.
Save yourself the money and just get the unlimited wifi for $25/mo when you need it and use the tablets you already own.
Marketing….what a strange animal! I had the ceiling (flip down) mounted DVD screens and the 3 (boys) grandchildren, who were “always” arguing about nothing….would instantly STOP as soon as their movie came on!!!
Instant quiet for the trip!
Now …have a plug/port by the back headrest where (little ones) can watch a (fixed) movie…and older ones, if the want to hold a “tablet “ unplug it from the headrest and use it as such
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner….as the vehicle purchaser doesn’t “have” to buy the units BUT it’s wired for future usage…..if wanted!
This is really doing everyone a favor. The 2022 rear seat media is a waste of money if you have younger kids using the screen. There are no ‘wireless’ connections and can only mirror a phone with the correct adapters. With an Android device this is pretty easy with a usb-c to HDMI connector, but for Apple, the lightening to HDMI connector (the one made by Apple!) is finicky at best. Very disappointed with the setup and hope that GM updates these screens to allow for Apps like Netflix, Disney+, etc. Right now a Hulu option shows up (sometimes) but does nothing when you click on it! Let’s get this going on the right direction GM!!
Pop in a firestick and connect to the vehicle 5G or your phone/tablet 5G. Problem solved for the lack of apps. I have this setup in my 2020 and it’s central screen
I have a 2022 Tahoe on order and my salesman told me yesterday that GM removed the rear seat media option because of all of the complaints with the 2021 model. He recommended an after market system that they consider better than the GM installed system. Now that the dealer went in and removed it from my build, my order is starting to move. They said that it wouldn’t get picked up for production as long as the entertainment system was one of my options.
Tom, which aftermarket rear seat entertainment did your dealer recommend and did you end up ordering this aftermarket one?
I would like to know if there’s an aftermarket system (dual screens or drop down displays) that could be controlled by the main front screen?
Thanks!
I’d like to also know.
And what did he recommend ??
Tom could you let us know of the after market option please.
Thanks,
Amanda
Yeah, what after market options are best?!
I used the entertaiment system in my 2021 Tahoe, I don’t even need a fire stick. Your get a small DVD R system, place it under the driver’s seat, plug it to the power outlet, attach a HMDI cable and now you can watch movies and Netflix. I used it when I am going on long trips. For my family it was worth the money. I have the aftermarket Sony DVD system installed in my car. I rather have the system that came with the Tahoe.
