Buick Encore GX And Cadillac XT4 Recalled Over Loss Of Brake Assist

General Motors has issued a product safety recall for certain examples of the Buick Encore GX and Cadillac XT4 compact crossovers over an issue related to the power brake boost system.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the material used in a sensor connection within the electronic brake boost system may have been contaminated during the material supplier’s production process. Contamination of this material may cause an interruption of communication between the sensor and the brake boost system under certain conditions.

The hazards: if communication between the sensor and brake boost system is interrupted, the electronic brake boost assist could be lost. If this happens, extra pedal force will be required to slow and stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected vehicles:

Affected components: electronic brake boost module sensor.

The fix: GM dealers will be instructed to replace the electronic brake boost module on affected vehicles. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Next steps: owners are advised to wait for GM to get in contact with them, at which point they will be instructed to make an appointment at a dealership. Vehicles involved in this recall were placed on a stop delivery as of September 24th, 2020. Any involved vehicles in dealer inventory must be held and not delivered to customers or used for demonstration purposes until the repair contained in the service bulletin has been performed on the vehicle.
