Wuling To Introduce Two New Global Crossovers In 2021

Wuling, which is General Motors‘ best-selling brand in China, is preparing an ambitious product plan to open a new chapter as a global automobile brand – a process that officially began on May 25 with the launch of the new silver logo. Following the just-unveiled all-new Wuling Victory MPV, GM Authority has learned that the brand will introduce two new crossovers early next year.

Sources familiar with the matter informed us that SAIC-GM-Wuling, the joint venture that manages the brand, will launch the two next-generation utility vehicles simultaneously during the first quarter of 2021. More specifically, a mid-size crossover and a smaller crossover, which will be responsible for leading the imminent international expansion of Wuling.

All-new Wuling Hong Guang X concept

As we have already reported, the second global model of the Chinese brand will be the production variant of the new Wuling Hong Guang X concept presented last month. Wuling’s upcoming mid-size crossover is expected to inherit most of the Hong Guang X highlights, as SGMW openly said that it’s not a simple concept, but a very close representation of a future production vehicle.

The Hong Guang X concept will inspire the upcoming new midsize crossover, also known as “Ursa.”

It is unclear at this point what the official name of this crossover will be, as it first appeared in a slide of Wuling’s product plan codenamed “Ursa” and was eventually revealed as Hong Guang X – in tune with the brand’s traditional nameplates. However, it will introduce the “wing dynamic aesthetics” design language for utility vehicles and will have a marked off-road approach.

Meanwhile, there isn’t much information available regarding Wuling’s upcoming small crossover. So far, it is only known to be positioned below the crossover based on the Wuling Hong Guang X Concept. Mind you, both utility vehicles will use SGMW’s latest platform that debuted last year with the Baojun RS-5 – designed to drive the repositioning and expansion of the two joint venture brands.

The two all-new Wuling crossovers are expected to be introduced simultaneously at a special event in China scheduled for March 2021. These future models wearing the new Wuling Global Silver logo will be sold in both the Chinese market and a growing number of foreign markets, with special emphasis on emerging markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions with large populations.

  1. So GM’s plan to go to say Europe is with Wulling a Chinese Company instead of just keeping Opel and or sticking with Chevrolet there and actually spending the money to make their cars competitive in that market?
Oh but the GM Bean-Counters just wouldn’t let them spend money on the interiors that are crucial in the European Market.
    What a joke.

    1. GM will not be selling Wuling/Baojun vehicles in Europe. The Opel brand has been sold to Peugot and they sell Chevrolets there now.

      1. Chevrolets vehicles are not sold in Europe anymore, other than Corvette ….

  2. I suppose in the catastrophic event that Biden gets elected, all those POS Chinese Communist built vehicles will probably be sent to the USA too.

  3. Down with COMMUNIST China and ANYTHING they export to the world.

  4. Sad thing is I can see chevrolet and buick losing market share in China due to the increased and deserved tensions between the two countries. Now that GM has abandoned all other markets worldwide it’s only going to leave them with north and South American markets

  5. >>Wuling, which is General Motors‘ best-selling brand in China, <<

As I understand it, SGMW is a joint venture between GM, Liuzhou-Wuling and SAIC.

The GM brands are Chevrolet and Baojun, the SAIC brand is MG, and the Liuzhou-Wuling brand is Wuling.

They have joint factories in China and Indonesia but they sell their vehicles through their own dealer networks.

SAIC also has factories in Thailand, India, Egypt and South Africa which assemble SGMW vehicles and Wuling has factories in Indonesia and India.

One of the most popular vehicles sold by Wuling is a light box van called the Wuling Rongguang (pronounced “wrong one”). It seems unlikely this will be sold in the west.
