The pickup segment is as hot as ever, and not just in the United States either. General Motors is seeing impressive pickup truck sales in Mexico, with jumps for both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra in the market for December of 2019 as well as for the 2019 calendar year.
Chevrolet Silverado sales saw an increase of nearly 125 percent in December 2019, up to 928 units compared to 413 sales during the same timeframe a year ago. Sales increased 22.52 percent to 9,669 units for the 2019 calendar, compared to 7,892 units for all of 2018.
Meanwhile, the GMC Sierra posted some strong sales of its own, with an increase of 83 percent for December of 2019. A total 306 units were sold during that time period, with 167 units sold in December of 2018. Calendar year 2019 sales saw a bump of 44 percent to 2,200 units, compared to 1,524 units for 2018.

In terms of market share, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra bested all competitors with a combined 36 percent market share. Meanwhile, the Ford F-Series saw a market share of 35 percent, while the Ram Pickup was at 29 percent.
To note, the Chevrolet Silverado sales listed here combine those for both the Silverado and the Chevrolet Cheyenne. Both vehicles are full-size pickups that are identical to the Silverado 1500 sold in the U.S. However, the Mexico-market Chevrolet Silverado is analogous to the Silverado WT sold stateside, catering to commercial customers and those aiming to utilize their pickup for work purposes, while the Mexico-market Chevrolet Cheyenne offers more elaborate design elements as well as upgraded features and equipment. It’s available in four trim levels in Mexico – RST, Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country.
The fact that Silverado and Sierra sales increased in Mexico is particularly noteworthy, since demand for automobiles in the country has been persistently declining for a while. In fact, December 2019 represented the 33rd consecutive month of sales volume declines. To that end, most models in the GM product portfolio saw significant reductions in sales volumes, with the Silverado and Sierra bucking that trend.

Ram is doing very well with their new trucks, gaining market share across North America. This goes to prove that pickup buyers do in fact care about interior quality. GMs interiors in the current models are abysmal, and Ford's are marginal....both need improvement or they will continue to lose sales to Ram.
Or if you slap $12,000 on the hood.
But what does that have to do with the article?
Abysmal is a very strong word. GMs interiors are very functional and easy to use. In a "working truck" or fleet vehicle this is 1000 times more important than having an iPad vertically arranged in the center stack. Keep in mind that the interior that everyone brags about in the RAM is only available in the higher end trims. What GM would call high feature models. Should Chevy offer a comparable level of interior in the High Country? I believe they should and that you will see it in 2021 or 2022.
