Competitive Sales Comparison

Despite the decline, GMC Yukon sales continued to enjoy a solid position in their segment in the third quarter of 2019 in the U.S., with 18,737 units sold of both the regular-length Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL. That was behind its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Tahoe, which saw 26,308 deliveries. Hence, the Yukon took second place in its segment (see running GMC Yukon sales), (just barely) outselling the Ford Expedition in third place (see running Ford Expedition sales), as well as the Yukon’s other corporate cousin – the Chevrolet Suburban in fourth, Nissan Armada in fifth, and Toyota Sequoia in sixth.

The GM Authority Take

The fact that the GMC Yukon sold as well as it did during the third quarter while being one of the oldest vehicles in the segment speaks highly to the strength of the nameplate and the high competitiveness of the current product.

Looking ahead, the Yukon, along with the Tahoe and Suburban, are about to receive completely overhauls in terms of engineering and design for the 2021 model year. The highly-anticipated, all-new 2021 Yukon is expected to further solidify GM’s position in the highly-lucrative full-size SUV space. In fact, GM’s full-size SUVs like the Yukon, Tahoe/Suburban and Escalade, are believed to be the biggest drivers of revenue and profit for the automaker.

However, competition is heating up. On the one hand, Ford’s new Expedition is doing very well in the segment, posting a very healthy 53-percent growth in the first nine months of 2019 over the same time frame in 2018. On the other, new entrants are coming for the space, including the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer.

  1. Give buyers a reason to buy yukons!!!! Lower price, better incentives. Times are hard “still” for some. Beautiful vehicles overpriced. Still sitting on Tahoe chasis.
