Poll: What Should The Upcoming Small GMC Crossover Be Named?

The recently-spied small GMC CUV is set to expand the brand’s crossover lineup by slotting under the compact Terrain and midsize Acadia to become the smallest GMC model yet. The model is expected to share a GM Vehicle Set (neé platform) with the 2020 Chevy Trax and 2020 Buick Encore, but with GMC design, representation and brand elements. That’s all great, but there is one problem: no one seems to know what the production model will actually be called. Luckily, we have some ideas.

General Motors has previously filed trademark applications for the following four names that it is currently not using:

As luck would have it, all four names have a nice ring to them when prefixed with the word “GMC”. Just listen to it: GMC Anthen, GMC Graphyte, GMC Tribute. Meanwhile, the GMC Granite was a 2011 concept vehicle (see GMC Granite Concept info), so we already know that the brand has an affinity for the Granite name.

Keeping these options in mind, we want to know what you think the new GMC subcompact crossover should/will be called. Tell us by voting in the poll, and let us know why in the comments.

  1. Tribute would be awful. I’m not sure why, but it just sounds “old”

    1. It’s bad because it redirects. You tribute something ELSE.

    2. Mazda already had it, and even if GM paid for the rights to use again, it already comes with baggage attached.

  2. Call it Jimmy Junior. Or maybe just Junior. Like the Picard would say make it so.

  3. Definitely Granite. It’s time. Though the obfuscating paint covering in those pics looks a little more marble than Granite 🙂

    1. Then they can get the rights to “Like a Rock” and generate lots of media from stealing Chevy’s old theme song

  4. GMC – Jump

  5. I almost want to say Jimmy

  6. I vote Anthem. Granite and Graphyte are too tough/solid/macho for a teensy weensy little four-banger, FWD cute ute. Tribute is still associated with Mazda so Anthem is their best bet of those choices but GU2 has a nice modern Johan de Nysschen vibe if it’s not taken.

    1. Agree. Granite and Graphyte should be saved for more rugged larger trucks, special edition for Graphyte maybe. Anthem is intelligent, easy to say, and more fitting of this sort of vehicle.

  7. I’ll nominate, “Jolt,” since we’ve got Volt and Bolt. Jolt sort of implies an electric vehicle, and I was going to nominate, “Colt,” but Colt was a former Chrysler/Dodge product. Maybe if FCA doesn’t want the Colt name any longer, GM can have it. However that could cause trouble with the firearm manufacturer – remember when GM took heat from the gun maker when it used the name, “Beretta.”

    1. Maybe they could call it the model 1911 if it was a Chevy. The year Chevrolet was founded.

    2. “Jolt” was the Autobot’s name for the blue Chevy Volt in the Transformer movie “Revenge of the Fallen”. He had two electric whips that revives Optimus Prime .

  10. Granite. They named that cool little Scion XB competitor they concepted years back Granite. Catchy little name for a little CUV.

If they DARE use Jimmy they can off themselves in public.

  11. This is not a GMC.
