2022 Cadillac Escalade Gets Limited Four-Way Power Lumbar Support Availability

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade will face limited four-way power lumbar support availability due to the ongoing global microchip shortage.

Four-way power lumbar support adjustment typically comes as standard equipment on the Cadillac Escalade, however due to the ongoing chip shortage, this will no longer be the case. For a temporary and undisclosed amount of time, four-way power lumbar support will no longer come as standard equipment on the Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport trims. It will be replaced by a two-way power lumbar adjustment for both front seats in all three trim levels. The more expensive Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum trim levels, meanwhile, will continue to come standard with four-way power lumbar adjustments.

This change is temporary and will be implemented on 2022 Cadillac Escalade models from November 1st production onward. Due to the ongoing and ever-changing nature of the global chip shortage, GM is not providing an estimate as to when this change will be lifted. Buyers who purchased a Cadillac Escalade with the two-way power lumbar adjustment instead of the four way power lumbar adjustment will receive a $50 credit as a result of the change.

GM has applied a similar change to the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and 2022 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. Unlike the Cadillac Escalade, though, affected Tahoe/Suburban and Yukon/Yukon XL models will not be offered with the four-way adjusters in any trim level.

As we pointed out previously, GM has been able to mitigate the effects of the chip shortage by removing certain, less consequential electronic features from its vehicles. For example, the automaker previously removed Active Fuel Management and Dynamic Fuel Management from certain examples of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, as well as Automatic Stop-Start and HD Radio.

The Cadillac Escalade is proving to be a particularly important model for GM in 2021. The Escalade has not only been in high demand, but also consistently sells for an average of nearly $100,000 USD – making it one of the automaker’s most profit-heavy nameplates.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade is produced at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas.
