Corvette C8 Owner Discusses Buyer Demographics: Video

We’ve featured C8 Corvette owner and Chevrolet salesman  Morgan Crosbie’s videos on our site in the past. The London, Ontario-based YouTuber was one of the first people in the country to take delivery of the new mid-engine sports car and has been using his channel to educate Chevy fans on the differences between the new car and previous front-engine Corvettes, including how it drives in the snow.

His status as both a C8 Corvette owner and a General Motors salesperson puts him in a unique position to offer valuable insights into the Corvette brand. Crosbie recently pulled up his Corvette C8 sales log to give viewers an idea of the kind of demographics changes that have occurred when Chevy moved to the mid-engine platform for the Vette. Not surprisingly, he found the average C8 Corvette buyer is younger than the average C7 Corvette buyer. This will be welcome news for Chevy salespeople both in Detroit and at its various retail storefronts, as younger buyers will be around longer to keep on supporting the brand.

“The 70-year-old decade or age group had not a single buyer in my entire client base, whereas I did have about 5 or 6 people last year alone that were in that kind of age group that purchased,” Crosbie says. “And the 30-year-old age group, I didn’t go any less than 30, so I just did 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 – the 30-year-old age group is up 12 people from my previous years of data. So that’s a huge difference.”

Many Corvette traditionalists expressed frustration when they found out the car would be moving to a mid-engine platform. While the idea of a mid-engine Corvette was been on GM’s mind since the 1960s, they see a true Corvette as being a front-engine vehicle only. This isn’t the only reason older buyers aren’t scooping up the C8 Corvette, though. Some are simply waiting for later model years so Chevy can iron out the kinks, whereas others are waiting for upcoming performance variants like the C8 Corvette Z06 and ZR1.

  2. Why would anyone be frustrated that they went to mid engine? It’s always been a 2 seater anyway.
    What was there to lose?

    1. The Vette originally was supposed to go M/E around 1970 with Duntov wanted to go that route, GM brass shot it down. Then again in 91′ but that recession hit with GM downsizing which the Vette program had enough money for C5. 06′ GM finally wanted a ME Vette but the 09′ BK delayed the it in which we had C7.

I troll on the Vette but this is a long GM dream plus it gives the Camaro breathing room.

  3. An interesting discussion. It seems as if he is saying the C8 is not selling to repeat Corvette buyers? I would think many of them would have pre-ordered? I missed if he mentioned whether previous Vette owners comprise much of the market for the C8? Or in other words, have they kept their loyal “niche product” buyers satisfied? How does the C8 sell when compared to the C7 at the equivalent time of being offered (number of months)? These are all parameters he did not seem to emphasize . . .
