GMC Canyon Midsize Truck Rapidly Earning Sales In Mexico

General Motors reintroduced the GMC Canyon to the Mexican market in 2023, launching the all-new third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon after the nameplate’s extended absence from the country. Looking over the latest sales numbers, it appears as though the decision was a smart one, as Canyon sales are rapidly growing in the region. In fact, the new Canyon was one of Big Red’s top-sellers in Mexico in recent months.

Looking over the latest sales figures, we find the GMC Canyon posting 131 units sold during the month of September, placing it just four units behind the second top-seller for the month, the GMC Terrain, which posted 135 units sold for the month. Meanwhile, the brand’s number-one seller was the GMC Sierra pickup, which posted 220 units sold for the month.

Looking over the latest figures for the 2024 calendar year, the GMC Canyon has racked up 819 sales so far, which is a massive 318-percent increase compared to the preceding 2023 calendar year. To note, GM launched the third-gen Canyon in the Mexican market late in June of last year.

Simply put, the GMC Canyon was GMC’s fastest-growing model during the month of September in the Mexican market. The impressive sales growth seems to back GM’s decision to offer the third-gen GMC Canyon in Mexico after the nameplate was absent from the Mexican market for a decade.

The third-gen GMC Canyon is available in the Mexican market in two trim levels, including the off-road-spec AT4, as well as the luxurious Denali. As for what’s under the hood, the third-gen Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

Output is routed through the next-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission, with Mexican-spec units equipped as standard with four-wheel drive and a factory-installed two-inch suspension lift, as well as a 360-degree camera system.

Pricing starts at MEX$1,245,400 (US$61,757 at current exchange rates 10/30/2024) for the Canyon Denali, and MEX$1,176,400 (US$58,335) for the Canyon AT4.
