GM has issued a Service Update for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, including trucks in both the 2500 HD and 3500 HD configurations, in which a programming fault of the front camera could cause issues with the Automatic Emergency Braking (RPO code UHY) feature.
Specifically, in affected 2024 Chevy Silverado HD trucks, the front camera fault could disable the Automatic Emergency Braking system, making it unavailable in an emergency, per Service Update N242454750.
GM is currently offering a fix for 2024 Chevy Silverado HD pickups affected by this issue. The repair requires no parts, and consists of reprogramming the front camera control module with the correct and updated software. The entire process takes about half an hour to complete.
Dealerships are instructed to apply the fix to trucks currently in dealer inventory, as well as customer vehicles brought to the dealership for any reason. The fix is offered free of charge through the end of each unit’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period. As always, the GM Global Warranty Management system should be used to verify a truck’s involvement before applying the fix.
The 2024 model year debuted a significant refresh for the middle of the generational cycle, while the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD offers even more changes and updates. With production kicking off in summer, the 2025 pickup introduces a new Silverado HD Trail Boss edition along with expanded safety tech availability.
As a reminder, motivation is supplied to the Chevy Silverado HD by a pair of powerplants, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine developing 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission. These engine choices remain the same in the 2024 and 2025 model years.
The GM T1 platform provides the underpinnings for the Bow Tie heavy-duty pickup. Production of the Chevy Silverado HD takes place at two locations, specifically the GM Flint Assembly plant in Michigan and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
