General Motors has released a Safety Recall for select examples of the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 due to an issue with the instrument panel.
The problem: Affected vehicles may have a condition where the instrument panel doesn’t illuminate when the hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals are activated. As such, affected units fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, “Controls and Displays” and 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment.”
The hazards: If this condition were to occur, drivers of affected vehicles could fail to turn off the hazard lights, high beams or turn signals when they are no longer needed, which in turn could confuse other drivers on the road and subsequently increase the risk of an accident.
The fix: Certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect affected vehicles and update the instrument panel’s software as necessary, free of charge.
Affected components: Instrument panel.
Affected vehicles:
Number of affected vehicles: There are a total of 6,746 vehicles covered under this recall, including 2,441 XT5 units and 4,305 XT6 units.
