Here Are The Chevy Silverado HD Configurations GM’s Oshawa Plant Doesn’t Build

Although the Chevy Silverado HD is assembled at two separate facilities, namely the GM Flint plant in Michigan and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, not all configurations of the heavy-duty pickup are produced at both locations. Interestingly, the GM Oshawa plant only produces the most in-demand configurations for the Chevy Silverado HD, while the GM Flint plant produces the full range of configurations.

As it turns out, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada only produces Crew Cab / Short Bed configurations when it comes to the Chevy Silverado HD.

A Chevy Silverado HD is produced at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

For those Canadian customers interested in “buying local,” ordering a new Chevy Silverado HD with a Crew Cab / Short Bed body configuration increases the odds their vehicle will be produced at the GM Oshawa plant. Any other configuration for the Silverado HD, including Regular Cab, Double Cab, Chassis Cab, or Box Delete models will be built at the GM Flint plant in Michigan. Additionally, all Dual Rear Wheel and Long Bed variants are produced exclusively at the Flint plant, while certain Silverado HD exterior paint colors, such as Auburn Metallic (paint code G48), Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (paint code G1W), and Dark Ash Metallic (paint code G6M) are also exclusive to the Flint facility.

It’s also worth noting that the GM Oshawa plant is the only facility to produce both the heavy-duty Silverado HD, as well as the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500.

As for the heavy-duty Silverado, the 2024 model year brought with it a mid-cycle refresh complete with a long list of updates and changes, including a new exterior design, an overhauled cabin (in some models), a more potent Duramax turbodiesel engine, and more. However, these enhancements are not tied to the location of production, meaning that whether your Silverado HD is assembled in Flint or Oshawa, it will still boast the latest updates and features.

  1. Ahh, that explains it, Auburn Metallic in Flint only. From Windsor Ontario, and wondered why my ’24 2500 HD was not built in Oshawa. Not complaining as I’ve had vehicles from both plants and no major issues from either. I’ve yet to see another Auburn Silverado 2500 anywhere, I guess I’ll have a somewhat unique color truck as Auburn is now discontinued.
