Colder weather can present a host of problems when it comes to transportation, and not just with snowed-in driveways or slick roads. Loss of visibility can also pose a problem, including with iced-out sideview mirrors. As such, we think there’s one feature in particular that’s practically mandatory for third-generation GMC Canyon buyers who live in cold climates, but unfortunately, the feature isn’t included as standard across the lineup.
The feature in question is heated sideview mirrors, which are offered as optional on the base-level third-gen GMC Canyon Elevation, but included as standard for AT4, AT4X, and Denali trims. As such, some GMC Canyon Elevation owners who live in snowy climates may not be able to use their sideview mirrors properly if they get iced out.
This issue could be made worse by the fact that many units of the third-gen GMC Canyon were purchased from an out-of-state dealer, which may have specced the pickup for a climate that did not see much ice or snow. Notably, during the initial months in which the third-gen Canyon was offered, inventory was sparse and many customers opted for dealer trading, or even went out of state to purchase their new pickup.
With that in mind, check out the table below for a more in-depth breakdown of heated sideview mirror availability for the 2023- through 2024-model-year GMC Canyon (relevant RPO codes are listed in parentheses):

This article is implying a shortcoming of the Canyon when in reality it is the fault of the buyer who does not look at feature availability when making a purchase. After all, it is the buyer who knows where they live and the climate constraints of that location.
did people forget heated mirrors were not always a thing? People got thru life without them decades ago. We have become to soft as a society.
Hard to believe that in 2024 vehicles don’t include heated mirrors as part of defrost feature. Every truck I’ve owned over the last 15 years has had heated mirrors tied in with windshield defrost. Damn GM get with the times!
That’s what ice scrapers are for. I agree it’s a nice option but if you don’t have it you get out the scraper you don’t go hide under your bed. When did people become helpless or lazy or stupid, I’m not sure what it is.
Hmmm, I used a scraper on my last truck’s mirrors- a 2011 Silverado 1500 LT. It put permanent scratches in the mirrors.
