Next-Gen 2024 Chevy Traverse Production Hasn’t Started Yet

First breaking cover in July of 2023, the 2024 Chevy Traverse debuts the crossover’s all-new third generation, showing off new exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, new technology features, and a new turbocharged engine. The next-gen Traverse was previously scheduled to begin production earlier this month. However, GM Authority has learned that the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Traverse has been pushed back to an as-of-yet undisclosed date.

The exterior of the 2024 Chevy Traverse.

“We expect production of the 2024 Traverse to start soon, with customer deliveries to follow shortly after,” a Chevy spokesperson told GM Authority.

Back in December of 2022, GM Authority reported that the SORP for the 2024 Chevy Traverse was scheduled to kick off in December of the 2023 calendar year. Fast forward a year, and GM Authority later learned that the three-row crossover had a revised production start date scheduled to begin February 12th, 2024. That date has come and gone, and now, it remains unclear when production will begin.

Meanwhile, production of the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited appears to have been extended beyond its scheduled January 18th end-of-production date at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. The 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited is offered as stop-gap measure between the outgoing second-generation Traverse and incoming third-generation Traverse.

The next-gen 2024 Chevy Traverse will offer four trim levels, including LS, LT, Z71, and RS, with pricing starting at $38,995 for LS, $41,395 for LT, $47,795 for Z71, and $55,595 for RS. Prices listed here include destination freight charge, set at $1,395. Check out our previous coverage for more information on 2024 Chevy Traverse pricing, including options and packages.

Front-wheel drive is included as standard on LS, LT, and RS trims, with all-wheel drive offered as optional, while the Traverse Z71 is equipped with all-wheel drive as standard. All trims are equipped with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine as standard, while the GM C1 platform provides the underpinning.

    1. I believe they are the new 2024 model. I was into my dealership in Oshawa on February 22nd and they have 5 ready for shipping. I was told there is (was) a problem with the software to enable the headlights to automatically turn on. It sounds like the problem has be resolved because the hold on shipping was lifted on the 5 produced. The hold on mine has been lifted for production.

          1. If you have proof that Lansing Delta hasn’t built any 2024 Traverse Gen 3s, I welcome it. Until then, I have an order sheet, and order number, and a VIN number that indicate otherwise. Maybe my build is done and waiting parts that were out of supply or maybe it’s shipping tomorrow, but I’m certainly smart enough to know how to read the documents my dealer gave me and the updates I’ve received from GM to know I didn’t pay for a limited. Please show me the proof that I have a 2023 Limited Z71 coming as I’d like to take it to my dealer and request a refund on my deposit.

            1. KC…having an order sheet is not proof something has been built…having a VIN number don’t indicate anything either. What’s funny is above you state “Weird, then, that I got a VIN number for mine this morning and it is ready for transport.” and here (2 days later) you state “Maybe my build is done and waiting parts that were out of supply or maybe it’s shipping tomorrow”

How is your build done if it’s waiting parts??? LOL How is it waiting parts if it’s “ready for transport”????

You can’t even order these online yet…so guessing you’ve got a slick talking salesman that has convinced you to put a down payment on a car because he gave you a piece of paper listing all the features you wanted.

Go out to sites like “Autozone” or other car part sites, funny how none of them list a 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71…if they were ready, they would have oil filters, light bulbs and so on listed on the parts listings…but you can’t find any parts for them…that’s because they aren’t being sold yet!!! You can even enter VIN numbers in them sites…take that VIN number they gave you and run it through the site and see what pops up,.

                2. It’s hilarious you think no models have been produced just because the website lacks information. GM sucks at getting out information on time and many Build and Prices aren’t even posted by the time production begins.
                3. I’m looking at an order for a Z71 right now in Order Workbench that states it’s been produced since 2/22, a full day before this article was posted. So…yeah. You and the writer of this article both look stupid.

Putting my VIN in Chevy.com parts search shows the following:

    2024 Traverse

    4 – Door Sport Utility, Z71, 2.5L L4 GAS

Not sure what to tell you about Autozone, but the filters and bulbs are all listed now, so I guess if I need parts for my vehicle that is still sitting in a Lansing shipping yard, I’ll buy them direct from Chevy.

And I’ve bought multiple vehicles from my salesman, so he’s not really incentivized to piss me off.

  19. Called my dealer today and asked if there was any notification on my 24 Z71 yet.
I was the first to place a order at this dealership early January . To my surprise he told me that production has not begun yet. Now what was delivery in April has turned into June. I was very disappointed after $1000.00 nonrefundable deposit. He offered a Limited LS that he had on the lot with $3000.00 discount now if I wanted to cancel the order. This is another bait and switch Bull SXXX. GM if you can not deliver till June this should be a 2025 not a 24. I will wait and see what happens, probably should have gone with my second choice Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy that are now on dealerships lots.

    1. They most certainly have started production on them. They had 2 weeks off toward the end of January for change over. I work at the factory and we have not built anything since February 5th but the new generation Traverse and a handful of test GMC Acadia’s. Roughly 400-500 of the gen3 Traverse a day the last few weeks and ramping up.

I believe starting next week we should be building 650 a day. Hopefully you get some good news soon but your dealership is for sure lying to you about them not being made yet, we’ve put a few thousand off the line since February 5th until now.

  21. Thanks Nick. Good to hear first hand info. Update from my dealer today via VINview was that my Z71 is “on hold” at the Lansing Delta VDC Plant Yard but eagerly awaiting some movement. Curious if you know whether they are waiting for transport options, QA, or something else.

All the other 24’s are out, in fact, they are working on 25’s already. Am I the only one that thinks this is suspect?? To me, it’s a huge red flag! I was initially excited about the Traverse getting the Z71 package; however, you won’t see me buying one. This huge delay with no real explanation of it says there is something wrong with them.

  26. LB,
you may be right on that this is a little suspicious that none have yet to be anywhere yet.
I know a lot of people have orders in production but cannot find anyone delivered yet.
I ordered mine Z71 first week of January and my dealer keeps saying that they have not picked up my order yet. But he keeps trying to sell me a 24 Limited that they have 3 on the lot and he is now up to $5000.00 off the MSRP.
I have decided to just wait and see.
You are right about 1 thing the new body style should be 25 instead of 24s .
If I do get mine half of 24 will already be gone.
    I hope I didn’t order a bad unproven experiment.
