To note, all 2024 Buick Envista models are equipped as standard with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which is rated at 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed automatic transmission is also standard, routing output exclusively to the front wheels. The GM VSS-F vehicle set is under the skin, while production for the U.S. market takes place at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

“Premium” and 137hp do not belong in the same sentence. There are plenty of powerful three cylinder turbos out there. GM even has the 1.3 with a way better TQ and 30 more horsepower.
It’s a disservice to the Buick brand to offer the Envista with such a terrible powertrain.
Totally agree. I knew Buick had lost it when they stuffed the new, lower hp wheezer of a 2.0L in the Envision. They are not really building cars for the US market anymore. We are an afterthought.
I honestly don’t mind the weak engine. The demo buying this sort of crossover shops price, standard features, and miles per gallon (mpg). My speeding days are long behind me, so I like it, as long as it leases well. If it doesn’t lease well, I’ll probably just get the new Prius.
Totally disagree. This engine is going to be perfect for this vehicle and the market it seeks to conquer. I assume it will have nice low end torque and enough turbo power to confidently pass on the highway. It’ll probably be much faster than my 65 Skylark’s 4.9 liter 4 barrel V8. If you want a 60s era muscle car, buy one. There are plenty out there. If you want an efficient urban-stylish tech-modern super high quality made premium American branded sexy new vehicle with “satisfyingly enough” power – then the Envista seems perfect. I suspect they are gonna sell a bunch of ‘em, and to an exactly perfect demographic. Nice job Buick and GM!
It should sell really well. I think that’s why there are no optional wheels and no optional engine, even if buyers wanted to pay the premium. GM wants these things flying down the assembly line and on a cargo ship to the U.S.
Getting closer to a sedan wagon with ugly black wheels.
I like the Sport trim’s price and standard equipment but I’m *so* over the black wheel trend. It’s played out. And the “ST” in the headrests is a tacky waste. Would look better if they were blank.
Absolutely no optional wheels?
On the 2024 Encore GX, you can add 1” to the black Sport wheels and a moonroof for about $1,500.
This base spec Envista trim really needs an optional wheel.

The exterior design is attractive, but what’s the life expectancy for a 3 cylinder turbo engine. The turbo on my 4 cylinder Chevy started to go with less than 50K miles clocked. I find it ironic that big Gov is forcing manufactures to go the small engine route to quote “save the planet” when these engines will reduce the life expectancy of the car. Needless to say, I’m not a fan of a 3 banger turbo, and will pass.
Finally, a new Buick with some STYLE! And, it’s ENTRY LEVEL! Successful Buicks have always been about style, substance and value. This new car seems to have them. The 3 cylinder engine is about economy first, with decent everyday performance. There is a generous powertrain warranty to back it up for those who are afraid of the 3. Buick built hundreds of thousands of V-6 paint shakers in the mid-70’s to early 1980’s that lasted a long time before they gave them an even firing crank and many other improvements to become the even more durable 3800. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt on the powertrain to average 30 mpg, carry around 4 people and with 20 feet of cargo space for that kind of price and with those looks. And no, GM did not pay me to say this. The old girl may not be dead in the U.S. yet if this is an example of what is coming.
