Is The Upcoming Electric Cadillac Crossover Equipped With Rear-Wheel Steering?

As GM Authority has covered on multiple occasions in the past, Cadillac is currently working on a new all-electric crossover model set to slot in above the Cadillac Lyriq with regard to the luxury marque’s EV lineup. Looking over images of this larger electric Cadillac crossover testing as a prototype, we noticed that it may be equipped with rear-wheel steering.

Although it’s subtle, it appears as though the rear wheels on this larger Cadillac crossover EV are turned ever so slightly when the front wheels are cranked to one side or the other. Of course, rear-wheel steering / four-wheel steering systems only need to pivot a few degrees to provide a variety of benefits, including enhanced driving dynamics and greater stability at higher speeds or low-speed maneuverability in tight spaces such as the shopping mall parking lot. Then, of course, we have the Crabwalk system offered by the GMC Hummer EV, which can pivot the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in either direction, although that’s more for off-roading or showing off.

Regardless, it certainly looks like the upcoming electric Cadillac crossover is equipped with rear-wheel steering, which would do well to enhance its maneuverability and driving feel in a variety of different scenarios.

In terms of design, images of prototype models indicate that the upcoming Cadillac crossover will sport a set of vertical headlamps arranged on either side of the fascia, as well as more traditional SUV proportions compared to the Cadillac Lyriq, instead drawing similarities to the ICE-based Cadillac XT6. The rear window will also be more upright and boxy compared to the Lyriq, while the profile will incorporate flush door handles.

Up top, prototype models have been spotted with what appear to be dual sunroofs, or possibly a tinted glass roof. The rear end will show off vertical taillights similar to the Cadillac Escalade. Inside, we expect to find a horizontally oriented digital screen.

Look for the upcoming electric Cadillac crossover to debut before the end of the 2023 calendar year, with production kicking off sometime in the 2024 calendar year.

  1. I have a good feeling about this car. If the proportions are right, it could be the Escalade Sport Cadillac needed for years.
And I’d really love if Art&Science is back.

  2. Love the AWS on my CT6. Just wish GM/Cadillac would come to reality and bring that car back to the US market.

  3. GM invented electric steering which was to be used on the newer Pontiac Fiero sportscar. Most GM vdhicles have it as a standard feature since then. Then GM was the first to offer rear wheel steering on the Chevy Silverado. We will see how it will be applied to all the new GM electrics.
