Electric Cadillac Crossover Above Lyriq Spied Testing

GM Authority spy photographers just caught Cadillac’s larger all-electric crossover model out for some testing. As GM Authority exclusively reported yesterday, this new electric Cadillac will slot in above the Cadillac Lyriq with regard to the luxury marque’s EV crossover lineup.

The new electric Cadillac crossover undergoes testing.

Although this larger electric Cadillac crossover model is obviously covered in heavy black-and-white camouflage, there’s still a number of interesting details worth picking out, starting with the front end, where we find a pair of placeholder headlights set in a vertical arrangement on either side of the fascia. A small, boxy air intake is seen lower in the fascia.

Moving over to the profile view, we find the new electric Cadillac crossover presents a more traditional SUV silhouette compared to the Cadillac Lyriq, confirming an earlier GM Authority report. The overall proportions are similar to those of the current ICE-based Cadillac XT6, but with a longer dash-to-axle ratio. We also see an upright, boxy rear window section, as opposed to the steeply inclined rear window presented by the Cadillac Lyriq. In the corners, this prototype model is riding on a set of split-spoke allow wheels with a silver and black finish. Flush door handles keep the profile extra slippery.

Up top, we see what appears to be dual sunroofs, or perhaps simply a tinted glass roof. Moving into the rear, this electric Cadillac crossover prototype is running placeholder taillights, which are arranged in a vertical layout similar to the Cadillac Escalade.

As for the cabin space, the upcoming Cadillac crossover is expected to offer three rows of seating, similar to the Cadillac XT6. These recent spy photos also reveal a large, horizontally oriented digital screen layout for the dash.

The new electric Cadillac crossover is expected to get its big reveal sometime before the end of the 2023 calendar year, while the start of regular production (SORP) should begin sometime during the 2024 calendar year.

  1. Baby Escalade? I see a lot of hints of that in the rear. I’m glad they didn’t just stretch out the Lyriq. Too many automakers are using the same designs on different sized segments.

    1. You definitely can see a lot of hues from the Slade even though it’s wrapped. It’ll be interesting to see the pricing strategy for all of the Caddy EVs.

  2. How do we know it’s a Cadillac? It would make sense for GM to follow the 5 passenger Blazer EV with 7/8 passenger Traverse models.

    1. It’s a Cadillac. Look at the extra pics; they have 22 additional photos and you can see the badge of the brand on the rear deck. Also the infotainment curved screen is a big indicator as well that this is a Cadillac prototype being tested.

GM will also do an electric version of the Traverse.

  3. What if you don’t give a $hit about suv’s…where does that leave you with Cadillac…………………….NO WHERE. Cadillac will be extinct in less than 10 years……….If you had $400,000 to spend on a luxury flagship sedan would you really buy a Cadillac that in all probability will be gone in a coupla years, or turn to Rolls-Royce or Bentley, where you at least have a choice of gas, or electric powered.

Cadillac’s line-up is a disgrace. two entry level sedans then….NOTHING! They should have at least continued with the CT6. I have 2, a 2018 Platinum, and a 2020 Platinum with the Blackwing engine. Probably the best Cadillac made since the ’59-’62 series.

Cadillac stands behind nothing anymore…..they make an incredible sedan, then dump it…..they make a world class chassis, the Omega, then dump it…….they make a world class engine, the Blackwing, then dump it…They kept the name, and slapped it on a sorry excuse for a Cadillac sedan with an aged Corvette engine, what a joke…..

Cadillac makes nothing I want, and I have owned 42 Cadillacs over the years. Instead they want to keep making cheap suv’s that always come in last in comparison tests….

  4. Trying to scale these pictures based upon the Lyriq – it’s tough though as there doesn’t seem to be one that is a pure elevation view. But just based upon that, it looks to have a lot more front overhang for some reason – maybe they will finally put in some sort of front trunk in the US. It’s also a lot taller than the Lyriq as mentioned and looks to be about the same height as the Rivian R1S. Obviously this will make it more useful for carrying passengers in that third row in addition to more cargo space. Just hope it’s not too much more expensive than the Lyriq.

    1. To me it looks like it will have very similar dimensions to the Lyriq. The Lyriq is 197″ long which is only 2″ less than an XT6. They can easily make a 3-row with the same wheelbase as the Lyriq and add a few inches to the rear.

  5. Looks like a refreshed XT6 to me! 😉

    So we have a a refreshed XT4 for 2024
The XT5 is replaced by the Lyriq
    And now a refreshed XT6.

The future of Cadillac is looking brighter!

    1. Underbody definitely seems like a BEV platform but the proportions are quite similar to the XT6.

  6. I suggest this will be a EV replacement of the XT6. The size looks closer to the XT6 .
Also the XT6 seems to be going out of production in the next year or so . Today I believe its produced alongside the GMC Acadia . Production of the Acadia is moving to the plant that will build the Traverse and Enclave for 2024. so that leaves only the XT6 to be built in the plant with this size of the platform.
This speak to the phase out of the XT6 and the vehicle you are seeing is likely the electric replacement.
If you look at the larger EVs like the Hummer SUV, I think that size will be more likely the bones for the Escalade SUV. Think of the people who buy the Escalade today , and you know that size does matter. The Escalade is a cash cow for GM, so 1 doubt they will tamper too much with the size of this vehicle and what it stands for with their loyal customers .
Any downsizing will take on a new name.

    1. The XT6 is built down the same assembly line as the Lyriq, and XT5 also.

  7. I am not ready for EV, neither is the nations power grid .. How about enhancing the power grid then produce the EV market

    1. How about you get solar and produce your own “refuel”. General Motors sells solar too

  8. This is the deal. GM has not had a solid vision for Cadillac that lasted more than 2 years till they decided to go EV.

Cadillac is not a division GM needs but it is add on profits they need.

The Move to EV is well planned and will be moved to over time. This will spread the cost out and help prevent quality issues.

The move to EV could really work as Cadillac last year sold 134,726 vehicles. and Tesla sold 536,069 units in the Cadillac price range in the States.

If Tesla can sell plain styled EV cars with quality issues and drab interiors then Cadillac with better styling and quality could take much of this segment. Tesla proved people will buy and not give them a better product GM could take the segment lead as the new models arrive.

This way Chevy and GMC can spread out with ICE and EV both and make the slower transition over time.

  10. I actually seen it in person(not sure if it was a clay model, but it had working lights) and it looks exactly like a baby Escalade with the new 2024 XT4-ish front end. I think it was the best decision to give it the Escalade light-sabers in the rear. Very nicely executed. The interior looks almost spot on with the LYRIQ but instead of blue velvet in the storage console its red.. apparently each one will have a different color to match the brands colors(red gold silver and blue)

  11. Looking forward to see what Cadillac will become by 2030.
This monumental shift to BEV’s is their last chance to once again become a Tier One Luxury Brand.
I like what I have seen from Lyriq and Celestiq.

  12. One possible clue could be that the Hummer EV SUV is a good bit shorter than the current ICE SWB Escalade. Maybe the EV Escalade with have a similar length?

  13. More boring for the XT6 size EV. It appears that GM is pulling a Ford move and just slapping a battery under the Xt6. GM’s design team is pretty lazy lately.
