Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Encore GX Led Korea Crossover Exports In January 2023

General Motors has just announced that together, the Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX led South Korea crossover exports in January, two months after they led overall exports of the Asian country in October 2022.

The Chevy Trailblazer was once again the most exported crossover of South Korea to international markets in January, starting the new calendar year at the top of all utility vehicles made in Asian country and exported abroad. In fact, this is the third time in less than a year that the popular GM model leads the Korean ranking after having occupied the first place in vehicle exports in June and October of last year.

“A premium SUV that reflects the true value of an authentic American brand, the Trailblazer was developed based on GM’s ‘quality first’ vision of never compromising,” said President and CEO of GM Korea, Roberto Rempel. “The Trailblazer has been a major volume driver in small SUV segment for GM in global markets including domestic market in Korea, and I am glad to see the continuous demands from customers all around the world with the proven performance and quality of the vehicle,” he added.

According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (Kama) figures, GM Korea sold 15,311 Chevy Trailblazer units in the foreign market last month and recorded the largest export volume among all crossovers. These figures include an unspecified number of Buick Encore GX units, the Trailblazer’s subcompact crossover stablemate which the manufacturer usually includes in the Chevy’s sales communications.

Notably, this new Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX achievement in Korea strengthens the leadership and strategic importance of the nameplates for GM’s South Korean subsidiary. Since its worldwide launch at the beginning of 2020, the Chevy Trailblazer – together with the Buick Encore GX – recorded accumulated exports of 451,981 units through January 2023, a prominent figure in the midst of the adverse conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chevy Trailblazer on the line at GM’s Bupyeong Plant

The main export and volume market of the Chevy Trailblazer manufactured in the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea is the United States, with a huge lead over second-place Canada. After the good initial performance of the models, the company is now preparing to continue their successful run with the refreshed 2024 Chevy Trailblazer and 2024 Buick Encore GX which will soon arrive in North America.

  1. Its Too bad all these Korean made crossovers don’t stay in Korea? But likely the Koreans buy more Kias and Hyundia’s just the same as the people do here in North America.
