2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Launches In South Korea

Seven months after the official introduction of GMC in South Korea, General Motors has just officially launched the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 as the premium truck brand’s first product in Asian country.

The 2023 GMC Sierra is arriving in South Korea in Denali trim only.

The automaker launched the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali in South Korea on February 7th during a special event for local media in Seoul, where the company officially declared the beginning of the full-size pickup era in that country, along with GMC’s  marketing strategy to promote the most advanced Sierra available to date. In fact, the 2023 Sierra Denali has already arrived and is available at GM Korea’s dealer network.

“Today is a meaningful moment to introduce the GMC brand with the Sierra launch, a truck that is surprisingly progressive and transcends the boundaries of premium for domestic customers,” said President And CEO of GM Korea, Roberto Rempel. “With GMC arriving, we will be able to provide a ‘true American premium brand experience’ to customers who want a better mainstream vehicle or want to experience the premium and luxury segments,” he added.

The 2023 GMC Sierra Denali becomes the first full-size pickup to be officially launched in South Korea, and as such, ushers in a new category within the premium vehicle segment of the South Korean automotive market. In this sense, the 2023 Sierra Denali represents a unique and distinctive offering with which GMC hopes to attract successful professionals and enterprising men in their 40s and 50s – its main target audience in Korea.

Positioned as a true American pickup, 2023 GMC Sierra will be offered in the South Korean market exclusively in Crew Cab Short Bed configuration and the uplevel Denali trim, which includes the regular model alongside a special launch version called Sierra Denali-X with black logos and other exclusive details. Both versions come standard with the highest level of equipment available on the nameplate.

On mechanical level, 2023 GMC Sierra Denali for South Korea is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L L87 V8 engine that produces 426 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, mated to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the 2023 Sierra Denali includes GM’s Autotrac Active 4×4 system with multiple drive modes.

The 2023 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 has just officially launched and is now available for sale in South Korea, where the model will initially be found at 11 GMC-owned outlets across the country and supported by GM Korea’s extensive dealer network. There will also be GMC Premium Care Services and a dedicated service center for the brand’s customers. Here are the starting prices of the 2023 Sierra in Korea:

  • 2023 Sierra Denali: 93,300,000 won (about $73,950 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • 2023 Sierra Denali-X Special Edition: 95,000,000 won ($75,300 USD)

  1. …. seeing a binary Korean next to a pick-up seems way too toxic masculine to me.

  2. Can you delve into why gm would go through the enormous cost of introducing a new brand and building a new dealer network in SK? Why not the Silverado, as gm already sells Chevy there (including the Colorado)? I must be missing something.

    1. I believe it is the “Denali” aspect. slapping the fancy bits on an already established base model and calling it something new to the public is quite possibly the cheapest way to to this new model introduction thing.

      1. Sorry, I was referring to the recent introduction of the GMC brand in SK, not the Denali, as this article is about.
I do not understand adding GMC to the market when the sales of Chevy Colorado are so tiny. Colorado only sold less than 2900 units in SK last year. The Silverado is not offered. Seems to me it would be significantly less costly to add the Silverado to an existing brand in the country rather than an entirely new brand.

        1. Their is an opening in the premium market space where there are no offerings by other brands. This is a better opportunity for GMC.

    2. Bottom line: All-new GMC Hummer EV.

    3. The whole market of people buying large American vehicles in Korea, and basically Asia, is because they want a real American car like they see from movies and now social media. People know what a Denali is. They understand a Denali is the top of the line and want to show off that they have the best.

People don’t know what a High Country is, and know that a Chevrolet is second to GMC, defeating the entire purpose of buying one.

If you were paying $100k, would you want the badge to say Porsche Cayenne or VW Touareg?

  3. From the article it looks like it was introduced at all “GM Korea dealerships”. So from that line I expect GM funnels all product thru a single dealer network in SK.

  4. Who cares about the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali “3.0 Diesel” in Korea, we need to know what is going on with the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali in the USA.
    Like;
What are the shortages in regards to the 2023 GMC Sierra Denali?
If a custom order has been picked up from the dealer, Does that mean 6 to 8 weeks to build?
What Auto plant would it be made in; Fort Wayne, Indiana or Silao, Mexico?
I have looked up the Silao and they don’t list building with the LZ0 3.0L Diesel.
