Most 2022 Corvette Buyers Chose The FE4 Magnetic Ride Z51 Suspension

Production of the 2022 Corvette Stingray concluded in May, with GM shifting to production of the mildly updated 2023 model year late that month. Now, the automaker has released a full sales breakdown for the 2022 Corvette, clearly outlining which exterior and interior colors and available options were the most popular for the outgoing model year.

Among the most popular available options for the 2022 Corvette Stingray was the Magnetic Ride Z51 suspension (RPO code FE4), with 45.5 percent of all models sold being shipped with this option. The FE1 standard suspension was the second most popular at 23.8 percent, followed by the FE3 suspension at 23.1 percent and the Magnetic Ride, non-Z51 FE2 suspension at just 7.5 percent.

2022 Corvette Suspension Take Rate
Suspension Coupe (units) Convertible (units) Total (units) Coupe (percentage) Convertible (percentage) Total (percentage)
FE1 Standard 3,801 2,358 6,159 14.7 9.1 23.8
FE2 Magnetic Ride 851 1,094 1,945 3.3 4.2 7.5
FE3 Z51 3,439 2,351 5,970 13.3 9.8 23.1
FE4 Magnetic Ride Z51 5,360 6,397 11,757 20.8 24.8 45.5

The FE4 Magnetic Ride Z51 suspension combines the upgraded standard suspension components from the Z51 package with GM’s Magnetic Ride dampers. This is different than the FE2 suspension, which only adds the Magnetic Ride dampers. The FE1 suspension is the standard base-level suspension, while the FE3 suspension includes the Z51 suspension with manually adjustable threaded spring seats, but without the Magnetic Ride dampers.

As we reported previously, Torch Red was the most popular exterior color on the 2022 Corvette Stingray with a take rate of 16.1 percent, while the most popular interior color was Jet Black with a take rate of 35 percent. Overall, 25,831 units of the 2022 Corvette were built. Of those, 12,380 were convertibles, and 13,451 were coupes.

As a reminder, the Corvette Stingray features the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine, which is rated at 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the factory performance exhaust system. Under the skin is the GM Y2 platform, while production takes place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. The 2023 Corvette Stingray entered production on Monday, May 23rd, 2022.

  1. I have a ’21 3LT Z51. Can’t imagine a C8 without mag ride.
