Just one month after introducing the refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox for the first time in Latin America, during a special event in Colombia, General Motors has just introduced the updated third-generation compact crossover in Brazil – the largest and leading automotive market in the region. The automaker reintroduces the Chevy Equinox to the Brazilian market after a nearly year-long pause in local sales.
The 2022 Chevy Equinox will finally arrive in Brazil over the next month, having overcome logistical difficulties that prevented its launch in the country late last year, as GM South America had initially planned. The updated 2022 Equinox seeks to increase its appeal in the South American country by debuting new design attributes, greater connectivity and the new RS variant that will make it stand out as one of the most complete models in its class.
“Dimensions are paramount when considering a premium SUV purchase, but design is the deciding factor when choosing,” said GM South America Product Marketing Director Rodrigo Fioco in an official press release. “That’s why this was the designers’ main focus in the development of the Equinox and the new sporty RS version,” he added.
In Brazil, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox will be offered exclusively in the top two trim levels of the crossover’s lineup: Premier and the all-new RS. As such, it includes all the technology, convenience and safety features available on the nameplate and is being positioned as a premium utility vehicle. This means that it will only compete in the upper part of the C utility segment in the Brazilian market.
Mechanically, the 2022 Chevy Equinox that GM has prepared for Brazil is equipped with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX engine that generates 172 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, both versions of the 2022 Equinox in that country come standard with all-wheel drive.
The refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox will go on sale in mid-June throughout the Chevrolet dealer network in Brazil, with the most comprehensive connectivity package in its class that includes OnStar Advanced Services, wireless phone projection, myChevrolet App, on-board Wi-Fi, Spotify and Amazon Alexa built-in. The 2022 Equinox units for Brazil will be imported from the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.
