C8 Corvette Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase In San Diego: Video

A C8 Corvette driver in San Diego was arrested Saturday night after a high-speed chase that ended with a brief highway standoff.

According to a recent report from local news affiliate Fox 5 KSWB-TV, the chase began around 9 p.m. local time after the C8 Corvette driver failed to yield to police officers. The driver was suspected of operating the C8 Corvette while under the influence.

According to police, the chase lead east on Interstate 8 through the Mission Valley area, later exiting the freeway in the College Area where the C8 Corvette driver lead police through winding side streets. Police successfully damaged the Corvette’s tires using a spike strip, but the driver continued the chase by heading west on state Route 94.

The chase ended after the C8 Corvette crashed into a freeway embankment near Euclid Avenue. According to footage of the ensuing standoff, a fleet of police vehicles blocked westbound traffic as the driver refused to exit the vehicle, instead sticking his arms in and out of the window and revving the engine.

Finally, after approximately 10 minutes, the driver exited the C8 Corvette through the vehicle window, stumbling after apparently throwing something at the car.

Luckily no injuries were reported. The C8 Corvette reportedly reached speeds of 100 mph during the chase.

As a reminder, the C8 Corvette features the mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine, which is rated at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Under the body panels is the Y2 platform, while production takes place at the GM Bowling Green facility in Kentucky.

In related news, a recent study identifies several GM pickups as models with the most DUIs. According to researchers at the auto insurance website Insurify, the top 10 car models with the most DUIs includes four GM trucks, including the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado.

    1. That would be nice but it is California and people have a right to drive, it is not a privilege in this state. Undocumented immigrants can get a CDL here.

      2. Many states, including CA, do. You pay a police reimbursement if you’re convicted of DUI.

  4. About 10 years ago I had a friend who was driving and he was getting pulled over for a traffic stop, long story short he runs wrecks probably 5-10 minutes later and killed the person he hit. Well that simple traffic ticket turned into manslaughter and a whole bunch of other charges.

No wonder it only took 48 police cars to pull him over… 100mph yeah right.

  7. Oh boy another great work of automotive literature by J Lo, definitely a cut above J Lo’s article linking DUI’s to GM trucks! And by the way this is not the same Bill who is concerned with the Z06 allotment!

    1. Oh, almost forgot, the paragraph about the engine size and where the vette is built, really helped to flesh out the article and helped me further understand why the guy fled from the police. Kudo’s to you J Lo!

  8. Only 100 ? Glad it was kept civil. Any car could have been in the story. People do this too often. I do not think it is news.
But I do worry about the reputation of Corvette owners.

  9. Scientists have discovered a new species that are believed to have been around since the beginning of man.
They are now the fastest growing minority in America and possibly the World. They are everywhere. Lurking in your subways, airports, government offices and Wal-marts and yes behind the wheel. They are a growing factor in American culture. It only takes one to destroy a major company or even…a country.
Scientists classify them as Stupidimundos Homosapius. Common folk, such as ourselves, know them as Stupid People.

  15. Why does the press have to explicitly put “c8 Corvette Driver Arrested After High Speed Chase” That is just rude to Chevrolet which makes good cars not intending for their customers to pay their first payment and then get in a ” High speed chase” there are so many good Corvette drivers out there being responsible.

    1. Because they always say what type of vehicle was used in the pursuit. I’ve seen everything from corvette, charger, challenger, mustang, camaro, impala, civic you name it.

  16. Disappointed no video of the actual chase.

This is inexcusable…and I don’t even mean the drinking and driving…there is easily enough performance there to get away from a cop if you have the skill and commitment to do so. Loser.
