2023 Buick Encore GX Production To Start Without Rear Park Assist

The 2023 Buick Encore GX will introduce the fourth model year for the first-generation small crossover, and now, GM Authority has learned that when the 2023 Encore GX enters production, all units will be built without the Rear Park Assist feature.

The omission of the Rear Park Assist feature is the result of the ongoing global microchip shortage. The feature is tagged with RPO code UD7, and is normally included and only available with the Safety Package (RPO code WPD) for Preferred trim levels. For Select and Essence trim levels, the Rear Park Assist feature is also normally included and only available with the Advanced Technology Package (RPO code WPA).

As GM Authority covered previously, 2023  Buick Encore GX production will kick off at the GM Bupyeong plant in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, South Korea on April 24th, 2022.

With regard to updates, GM Authority has learned that Buick Encore GX will drop the Satin Steel Metallic exterior color from its order books for the 2023 model year. Satin Steel Metallic is tagged with paint code GYM and costs $495, and is available across all trim levels for the 2022 model year, including the entry-level Preferred, mid-grade Preferred and range-topping Essence.

As a replacement for Satin Steel Metallic, the 2023 Buick Encore GX will introduce a new color called Moonstone Gray Metallic, tagged with paint code BZB.

Going forward, the 2023 Buick Encore GX will serve as Buick’s entry-level model, with General Motors set to drop the Buick Encore from its lineup.

With regard to specs, the Buick Encore GX is offered with either the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine, rated at 155 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 174 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm, or the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available.

Transmission options include either the GM continuously variable transmission (CVT) or the GM nine-speed automatic, with front-wheel-drive models equipped with the CVT, and all-wheel-drive models running the nine-speed. Under the skin, the Buick Encore GX rides on GM’s modular GM VSS-F (Vehicle Strategy Set-Front) platform.

  1. This looks a lot better than the previous gen Encore, which to me always looked like it was missing a portion of its rear-end. It appears the 2022 GX Select trim models w/AWD can be had right around the $30k mark and maybe even a bit less than that. Not bad for a compact CUV if you don’t require a lot of room and want something capable for local commuting. Buick can keep the parking assist if keeps the price point reasonable

  2. How bout something better than a 3 cylinder engine, at least put a 4 cylinder on the option sheet.

    1. I’ve got a 2021 Encore GX with the 1.3L engine. It has good power and averaging 33MPG. Well satisfied. Ford, Nissan, Mini Cooper among other brands are making 3 cyclinder engines. Ford Bronco Sport and Escape comes standard with a 3 cyclinder engine. Things are changing. I never thought I would see a 4 cyclinder engine in a full size truck but Chevy 2.7L engine in the Chevy Silverado.
