GM Confirms Refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain For Mexico

In late July, General Motors first announced the refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain in Mexico – where the company exclusively manufactures the second-generation model. Now, the automaker has just confirmed the arrival of the 2022 Terrain to the Latin country with specific details that will increase its level of competitiveness, along with a new launch schedule.

The 2022 GMC Terrain was initially scheduled to go on sale in Mexico during the fourth quarter of this year, but GM was forced to change its plans due to manufacturing difficulties caused by the global microchip shortage. As such, the official launch of the second-generation GMC Terrain’s mid-cycle enhancement in the Mexican market has been pushed back to early 2022.

“GMC Terrain represents the excellence and quality of Mexican manufacturing for the whole world, as it is produced by GM in the San Luis Potosí Complex,” said GMC Marketing Manager at GM Mexico, Wilberto del Ángel, in a press release. “With this refresh, we provide our customers with important improvements and new features in design, equipment and versions to reaffirm its position in the SUV segment, which is highly competitive,” he added.

In addition to the range-topping Denali and the introduction of the AT4 trim as is the case in other markets, GM Mexico confirmed that the 2022 GMC Terrain will be sold in that country with a new entry-level Black Edition, replacing the SLT. As with the Acadia in Mexico, the 2022 Terrain Black Edition constitutes a local variant of the Elevation Edition with an overall blacked-out finish.

Mechanically, all three trim levels of the 2022 GMC Terrain in Mexico will feature the turbocharged 1.5L LYX inline-four engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-foot of torque. It’s mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission that directs power to the front wheels on the Black Edition and Denali, while the AT4 features AWD traction.

The refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain will arrive at the brand’s official dealerships in Mexico during the first quarter of next year, boasting an extended equipment list and next-generation active safety features that seek to increase the competitiveness of the model in the Latin American country. All final configuration details and starting prices will be announced at launch.

  1. I really hope GM takes the Terrain seriously again. Losing the 2.0T, heated and cooled seats, and heated steering wheel within two years on an aging design is not a good look for a premium brand.

  2. Agree with what Richard P posted. Can someone explain why the 1.5T is used instead of the 2.0T? Mileage estimates are almost identical when comparing the Terrain to the Buick Envision. Is it a cost thing? Does it cost that much more to manufacture the 2.0? If GMC is supposed to be professional grade, why put a entry level engine in these vehicles. At least make it as an option.

  3. Totally agree with this statement why does nt GMC offer the 2.0! l engine as an option specially in the Denali trim they call them selfs professional grade I really don’t think there a huge fuel saving difference between 2.0 l and the standard 1.5 engine this is a highly competitive segment and losing the towing capacity where the other manufacturers don’t I really believe gmc is hurting themselves most consumer love that 2.0! l Engine in that segment and most people like myself don’t need a Acadia or a blazer so don’t want to spend the xtra money they say if you want 2.0 l go to a Buick envision or Cadillac XT4 that gm answer to the 2.0 !

  4. Lou unfortunately that’s GM’s and other auto manufacturers plans… To make you spend more on luxury marks… Then just buying a Chevy or GMC fully loaded with bigger engines and features. Honestly I would not waste my money on this vehicle I would either go to the Blazer or Acidea. Maybe because GM is making an EV Equinox the Terrain will get that to

  6. What they said. I have a 2018 Terrain Denali and planned to replace it in 2021. Why would I want to step down to less options and power with the 2022????

  7. I REALLY THINK THAT GM SHOULD AD FOLDING MIRRORS AND ELBEIAM LIGHTING IN THE INTERIOR AND SHOULD MAKE ROOF INSIDE BLACK AND THE 2.0L ENGINE GM OF COURSE IN THE TERRAIN AND THERE OTHER MODELS. I REALLY THINK THAT IF THEY ADD THOSE THINGS TO THE NEXT YEAR WITHOUT CHANGING THE DESIGNS THEY PROBLALY COULD BE UP THERE. SO PLZ GMC AD THIS FEATURES TO THE MODELS GOT GMC THEN YOU WILL BE BOWLLING!
