After releasing the first official images of the all-new Buick Verano Pro, General Motors has just revealed the sedan during a special event dedicated to the best-selling American brand in China. The automaker is introducing the next-generation Verano to bolster Buick’s stake in the compact sedan segment, which is still highly popular in the Chinese market.
Billed as a “global” vehicle, the new Buick Verano Pro represents the third generation of the Tri-Shield brand’s compact sedan originally introduced in North America for the 2012 model year. The nameplate debuted in China in 2015 as the second generation arrived, which is exclusive to the Asian country, positioned at the top of the C segment above the best-selling Buick Excelle.
The next-generation Buick Verano Pro is built on GM’s latest global vehicle architecture, the front-wheel-drive VSS-F platform that underpins the Buick Encore GX and Chevy Trailblazer crossovers. The platform provides the Verano Pro with a more refined driving experience as well as the company’s latest powertrains and electronic systems.
From a styling standpoint, the Buick Verano Pro embraces the brand’s “sculptural beauty” design language, with a dynamic look in order to attract young customers. The bodywork features organic lines and balanced proportions, giving the sedan a more upscale image. The sporty character of the Verano Pro is highlighted by the GS variant, which includes an Exclusive Design Package that includes a specific grille, more aggressive lower-body trim and a blacked-out appearance.
Complementing the Buick Verano Pro’s modern exterior is a new cabin designed to compete in the premium compact-sedan class. The vehicle will offer a first-rate technological experience with a fully digital driver instrument panel and an infotainment touchscreen, both 10.25 inches in size, along with Buick eConnect 3.0 remote services and advanced OnStar telematics.
Although the automaker didn’t reveal any specific powertrain details yet, the Buick Verano Pro will feature an all-new turbocharged and direct-injected, 1.5L four-cylinder engine that’s part of the eight-generation of Ecotec family. The Verano Pro sedan is currently on display at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, which is open to the public until April 28th, and will hit the local market in the coming months.

maybe if GM wasn’t so fast to dump these sedans from US, the environmental freaks would not be going whole hog pushing electric BS down our thoats, that’s with the help of the Dems…
Lol. Electric cars is being pushed by corporations that are decidedly more friendly to Republicans who keep their taxes low.
Also, I love how having breathable air and reducing asthma/cancer-contributing smog was a liberal stance.
Ned.
It must be wonderful to see the world in such simple, binary terms.
Electrics are coming regardless of Governmental politics. And if anyone is “pushing”, it’s the automakers themselves. They can hardly wait.
Why? Money. While the development of EVs has been long and VERY expensive, the fact is they will be far less costly to design and build going forward. Automakers will be even more profitable. It’s a Capitalists dream that I would think a conservative leaning individual like yourself would be the first to cheer. AND, the epicenter of development is right here in the US. The plants being built by GM will be employing thousands. Need for crude oil will be falling dramatically enhancing economic security.
The down voters are literally brainwashed or too dumb to think independent of AM radio spin.
BEV will do little to improve our carbon footprint because we still need electricity so this isn’t a treehugger plot. This is a capitalist plan to make cash.
Wrong!!! Politics in America is about what companies want. GM and the rest want EVs EVs because they require less complexity and fewer moving parts (less than 1000 compared to many thousand) meaning long-term higher margins and profits. Skateboard platforms are cheap to construct, too.
You’ve been brainwashed by AM radio and FOX. Both Dem and Republican lawmakers are getting campaign contributions. Maybe Dems, due to unions, care slightly more, but BEV isn’t political in Europe. Follow the dollars!!
That’s a gorgeous car. They could sell that in the US with a turbocharged 2.0l.
Richard P:
“Gorgeous” ?
It’s nice enough. Certainly better looking than the outgoing model. But this new one looks 5 years old already. I highly doubt many in the US would give it a second look.
Gorgeous indeed. I love that it appears to be a fastback but retains an actual deck lid.
Too bad we can’t have it in the US.
Paul:
Correction: Too bad so few would buy one in the US.
They would complain endlessly that it was built in China. China production would be necessary cause volume wouldn’t be sufficient in the US to justify a separate production facility.
Reality is, GM can never satisfy the complainers.
GMC Fan:
Exactly.
Like the crap about the CT6 last year. They won’t buy enough of them to keep a domestic factory going, and won’t buy a Chinese built one. Then “hate” GM for it. There’s no winning.
This car is on par with Honda Civic and Jetta. It might do well if sold as a Chevrolet Cruze in the US.
The design is beautiful and the VFF kit should ensure good handling.
I would be the first one in line to buy a Verano, canceling my order for a Malibu, I’ve had on order for 10 weeks. The market is still huge in this country for sedans, & coupes. Just look at the number of imports on our streets. Its just Americans want to have a vehicle that’s larger than their neighbors. Styling means nothing when it comes to looking over the roof of the vehicle in front of you.
Bring the Verano back to the us and build it here. GM needs for some sedans in their lineup besides Cadillac and Chevy.
This is a nice looking car, inside and out. I’m sure the 1.5L turbo four offers decent performance numbers. I would consider this over my current Buick Encore.
Too sophisticated for US Buick tastes. They prefer the Encore.
I love my regal tour x and my Buick enclave I can’t wait for the Buick enspire yeah I think going electric is going to be a good thing even Honda is going to be buying the platform from Buick
Enough! We know by now that the Verano isn’t coming back to the U.S. anytime soon. I’d be surprised if – and I mean BIG IF – it does!
GM communist Motors of America. Let there be no cars sold here, only gas guzzling suv/trucks. One needs to live in China to have a wide variety of vehicles to choose from.
