C8 Corvette customers looking to outfit their mid-engine masterpiece with the factory Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package are in luck, as the aesthetic upgrade is now once again available.
As GM Authority covered back in February of 2020, the optional Visible Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package (RPO 5VM) was cancelled last year due to a supplier issue. The aero upgrade was more popular than originally anticipated, and reports indicated that the supplier sourced to manufacture the body kit was unable to meet the surge in demand. As such, the package was removed from the online configurator, and customers who had ordered the package for their C8 Corvette were notified that their order had been cancelled.
Now, however, the C8 Corvette Ground Effects Kit in Visible Carbon Fiber is once again available. Although the kit has yet to reappear on the official Chevrolet Corvette online configurator, it is once again available on the Chevrolet Accessories website for both the 2020 model-year and 2021 model-year vehicles.
The aero upgrade includes three components, including a front splitter and a pair of side rocker panel moldings. Each component is made from carbon fiber, and offers a “dramatic, ground-hugging appearance.” According to GM, the pieces will also reduce drag and increase traction, thus improving overall performance. A Chevrolet-engineered rear spoiler is required with the new components.
Each kit includes all the necessary hardware to install. Pricing for the kit is set at $4,695, per the official Chevrolet Accessories website.
As a reminder, the C8 Corvette is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2, which produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the factory performance exhaust system. Output is routed to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

I have to admit, the Vette looks awesome. Until the engine explodes at 100 miles on the odo because of faulty valve springs, or the rims decide to warp and disintegrate. The carbon fiber will look great, but what’s underneath it, not so much.
More likely you will explode first…
This is the same motor GM uses in lots of their cars. Springs are not made by GM but a contractor , not GM S fault. At least that is what I read.
That’s BS. It’s GM’s name on the car, so they are to blame whether they made the part or not. That’s what quality control is for.
It is every bit GM’s fault. They installed them, they sold the car to the public. Quality control is on GM. When your Vette is on the side of the road dead who are you going to blame?
Do people want carbon fiber ($4,695) because it is lighter? If so, wouldn’t it make more sense to go on a diet? I’ve seen a similar kit for 1/4 the price. If people are buying it for the aesthetics, then go for it, I suppose.
Does the 2020 and 2021 Corvette have cylinder deactivation.
Yes
They also deactivate when the valve springs fail. Permanently.
i just want my car please
