Corvette Stingray And IMSA Champ C8.R Star In New Ad: Video

Following the launch of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Corvette Racing went into the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship with modest ambitions, and understandably so. This year was the team’s first season with the new mid-engine Corvette C8.R, but despite the humble approach, the all-new car helped power the team to both the driver’s and manufacturer’s championships, marking one of Corvette Racing’s most successful seasons in its 20-year history.

Results like that are worth celebrating, so that’s exactly what Chevy is doing. The automaker released a new 60-second advertisement this week entitled ‘Corvette C8.R: 2020 IMSA Champion’ to mark the team’s incredible achievements and draw some parallels between the Corvette C8.R race car and the road-going C8 Corvette Stingray that’s available to the public.

“We like to blur the lines between road car and race car,” reads the text that flashes on the screen in the ad. “Between street and track. Between C8 and C8.R.”

“We like to blur the lines by proving our prowess. By winning the IMSA championship. By leaving no doubt.”

Corvette Racing took six victories and six podiums en route to the 2020 IMSA Championship. Five of those wins came at the hands of No .3 Corvette C8.R drivers Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia, while the No. 4 sister car of Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin scored a single victory at Sebring. The team unfortunately missed out on any major endurance event wins, however, with BMW winning the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona and Porsche winning Petit Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

The Corvette C8.R debuted late last year ahead of the start of the 2020 IMSA season. The mid-engine GTLM/GTE-spec racer is built by Pratt & Miller in Michigan and is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5L flat plane crank V8 engine, which sends power to the rear wheels through a sequential racing transmission supplied by X-Trac.
