The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales suffered a dramatic drop in May, the second full month of social distancing measures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the 76 percent contraction recorded in May represents the worst performance in recent Chevrolet history in the Brazilian market, though the performance is in tune with the local market overall, which saw sales volume fall by exactly the same percentage. It should be noted that May 2019 was one of the best months for Chevrolet Brazil sales in 2019, increasing the sales levels necessary to overcome those strong results.

The overall negative performance is reflected in ten of the twelve models Chevrolet offers in Brazil, including the best-selling Chevrolet Onix, which also posted its worst historical performance in May. By contrast, the Bolt EV and Tracker saw very positive performance last month. Particularly noteworthy is the sales level of the Tracker subcompact crossover, which – thanks to the launch of the all-new model, has established itself as the brand’s second most popular model, as well as the best-selling utility vehicle in Brazil for the second consecutive month.
