In January, GM Authority was the first to report that a GM leveling kit for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon was on its way. When we wrote that report, we didn’t have the price nor the finer details of the package, which we have now obtained.
Benefits
The front leveling kit increases the front ride height by up to 1 inch to deliver a level vehicle stance and provides a greater approach angle for increased clearance over off-road obstacles. In addition, the kit also enables the use of popular off-road tire combinations.
Specs
Assigned GM part number 84608728, the Chevy Colorado leveling kit “utilizes a unique upper and lower spacer design to maintain optimal suspension geometry,” according to information distributed to dealers seen by GM Authority.
The kit includes front upper spacers, lower spacers and low profile nuts. It is constructed of e-coated steel for the upper spacer and polyurethane for the lower spacer.
Availability
The kit is available for all Chevrolet Colorado models except for 2WD models or trucks equipped with 20-inch wheels. It is also not available for the Colorado ZR2.
As of this writing, checks performed by GM Authority with dealers around the country show that the kit can be ordered and is generally available with a few days of placing the order.
The kit is also available for the GMC Canyon. See details at this link: GMC Canyon leveling kit.
Pricing
The 1-inch front leveling kit is priced at $150.
Warranty
There are several aftermarket leveling kits currently available for the Colorado. But while installation of those kits could void the truck’s new vehicle warranty or the warranty of the particular component(s) being modified, this GM/Chevrolet OEM kit does not void any warranties. It carries the greater of either the balance of the vehicle’s bumper to bumper warranty or 12 months / 12,000 miles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s are some common questions about the kit.
Q:Â What are the benefits of a leveling kit?
A: A leveling kit increases front ride height, leveling the vehicle’s stance and providing a greater approach angle for increased clearance over off-road obstacles.
Q:Â What equipment is required installation?
A:Â This kit will require the use of a spring compressor or it can be installed at your local dealership.
Q: What are the benefits of an upper and lower spacer design compared to a single spacer design of a comparable lift?
A:Â A single spacer design of similar lift may cause your ball joints to wear out prematurely in this application. The upper and lower spacers are designed to maintain optimal suspension geometry.
Q:Â Will installing this suspension leveling kit void my New Vehicle Warranty?
A: No, because it uses a unique upper and lower spacer design, it does not void the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Q:Â Is an alignment required after installation?
A:Â The alignment should be checked by a dealer and adjusted if necessary.
GM is working on an all-new, next-gen Colorado, and we expect that model to land for the 2023 model year. See info and details on the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado.

$150 actually isn’t to bad for an OEM level. I came here expecting to see $400. For those unaware a level kit on modern trucks is simply a strut spacer. For a 1″ level the spacer would be 1/2″ to 3/4″ of an inch thick and because of suspension geometry provides an actual lift of 1″. Most level kits are a single spacer that generally attach at the bottom of the strut, where as this kit provides two spacers – one attached at the bottom and the other at the top of the strut tower (where the 3 bolts in a triangle pattern can be seen from the engine bay) so I would expect each top and bottom spacer to be around 3/8″ thick. For such a small spacer I don’t see a benefit offering it as two pieces instead of one as the CV angles will be the same no matter. All i see is added complexity which means higher likelihood of dealer installed and more labour time associated.
Alex, does GM offer a OEM leveling kit for 2018 Sierra’s. My Sierra really sits high in the rear and I really don’t want to install an aftermarket kit
And why won’t it fit 2wd? And models with 20″ wheels? All the aftermarket spacers do. GM – have to wonder sometimes
Would like to see an GM answer to this question.
$150 isn’t bad at all. I must be in the minority wanting to lower vehicles. Anything like this around the same price would be much welcomed.
$150 is more than reasonable, especially in light of the added comfort of not voiding factory warranty.
I have a 2018 Centennial Z71 4×4 Duramax CCLB, and I have already asked my dealer to order this kit for me and an install price. I do a moderate amount of off roading mainly on rutted roads to trail heads and kayak put ins, and this lift would be a little easier on my OEM front and mid optional skid plates. My preference is always to protect the various warranties on the truck wherever prudent, so this kit announcement is very timely.
Streamintrip, How much did Dealer quote for install?
The Chevrolet/Cadillac Store Parts Dept just quoted me $410.00 INSTALLED, which INCLUDES the $150.00 kit. Not too bad, as this is, according to Parts, the ‘official’ GM price. When I earlier called the Service Dept there to get the info, they had no info on this specific leveling kit, but said if a spring compressor was needed, which it is, then what they charge on the Siverados is 4 hrs of labor or $500.00 PLUS the cost of the kit!
I use their sister GMC/Buick Store for my service, and I am waiting for their price for comparison, even though it is not on the Canyon listing as of yet according to GM Authority.
My intention is to hold fast on the $410.00 regardless of where it is done.
Plz let me know what your research turns up.
I got a response from the GMC Store which was that the GM Flat Rate for the leveling kit install is 2.6 hrs which at their Store is $436.00+tax on the kit. So the hourly rate at GMC just across the Savannah River in GA is $10/hr more than their sister Chevy Store in SC and their $410.00+ tax on the kit.
They tell me that this kit will not work on a 2020 Bison. I would like to know why. Or do they just not want to do it ? If I could have this leveling kit put on I would be able to put bigger tires on it when these need to be changed.
I don’t have a 4×4. Will there be a leveling kit for the 2021 Colorado that drops the rear end to match the front that will not void the manufacturers warranty?
I have a 2021 Colorado Crew Cab Long Bed 2 wheel drive. I don’t want to raise the front, it’s not a 4×4. I want to lower the back. Is there a factory kit for that. And if not, what the hell is Chevy thinking?
I agree. Would like to order a 2021 Colorado 2w lt with the same step in height as a 2002 s10
To let everyone know, this kit works on 2WD models!
I have a 2017 Colorado LT 2WD long bed w/ tow package, and it installed on the front struts w/o any problems whatsoever. The 4WD vs 2WD struts have the same physical dimensions, so this kit installed fine per instructions. I picked the kit up from a local dealer and installed it myself.
Anyone on the fence about adding the leveling kit this is my experience. Ordered Colorado on 9/7/20, picked up at dealership 10/30/20. Factory order with leveling kit and skid plate pkg, both dealer installed options. When I picked it up I measured my front end and a non-leveling kit equipped Colorado they had in stock. Mine with kit was 1.5 inches higher. A noticeable difference. After I returned home and removed the front air-dam (17 screws and 20 minutes) it makes a big difference in the approach angle. When removing front air-dam some of the screws need to be reinstalled as they hold inner and outer panels together. You will easily see which ones. This is just what I wanted to get to trail heads and put-ins. Don’t plan on doing any serious off-roading. If I was I would have gone with a Colorado ZR2. Hope this was helpful.
Did the level kit affect ride quality or handling?
I had my front air dam removed by the dealer BEFORE I bought it. Later, when the leveling kit was introduced, I had it installed and my truck isnow dead level. No issues whatsoever with ride, handling and alignment.
No noticeable difference to ride or handling
