When we first saw photos of the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Concept, we knew right away that GM was onto something. Featuring the same award-winning technology and styling cues that molded the Chevy Volt with the body of the Orlando, the Volt MPV5 looked stylish, functional and, of course, green. Alas, it was only a concept.
Fortunately, GM did not just tease the masses with such functionality and call it a day. Word is out now that a production-spec MPV very, very similar to the Volt MPV5 will make its way to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI next month. And it looks like it will be named the Chevrolet Amp.
So what gives the folks at Car and Driver such a good hunch that the MPV will be called the Chevrolet Amp? Several reasons, starting with recent trademark filings made by GM for that very name. Other reasons include the registration of several domain names, including: ChevyAmp.com, ChevroletAmp.com, ChevyAmp.net and ChevroletAmp.net. And considering that the names Amp and Volt seem to go together like Sanders and the Lions just makes the case even stronger. However, we might have to wait another month to find out for sure.

I think they should use the full name, ie Ampere. In any event, they’re gonna run out of electrical units to name these cars! LOL!
@ Richard:
This is a very good observation. They will indeed be scratching their heads after they use Watt, ohm, joule, circuit… perhaps the Chevrolet BTU is up next? 😛
no no the BTU would be a caddy 😉
