The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.
Body Styles
The 2020 Chevy Bolt is offered as a subcompact five-door hatchback that Chevrolet initially characterized as a crossover while the EPA classifies as a small wagon.
Platform
Like all first-generation units of the Chevrolet Bolt EV, the 2020 Bolt continues riding on a variant of the GM Gamma 2 platform called the GM BEV2 platform.
Powertrain & Range
The 2020 Bolt EV is powered by a 66 kWh lithium ion battery pack mated to an electric drive motor. The system gained 6 kWh for the 2020 model year, delivering 21 more miles of driving range for a total of 259 miles.
Range
On a full charge, the 2020 Bolt EV delivers an EPA-estimated electric driving range of 259 miles.
Charging Times
The time to charge the 2020 Bolt EV can vary based on the type of charger and current:
- 120 Volt charger: 4 miles / 6 km of range per hour (using standard cord)
- 240 Volt charger: full charge in 10 hours
- DC Fast Charge: up to 90 miles in 30 minutes
Production
The 2020 Chevy Bolt is assembled by GM USA at the GM Lake Orion plant in Michigan, USA. The battery and motor drive unit are made in Incheon, South Korea.
Availability
The 2020 Bolt launched in the third quarter of the 2019 calendar year.
Beyond 2020
The 2020 model year represents the fourth year of the first-generation Chevy Bolt EV. An all-new next Chevy Bolt EV is expected around the 2025 model year. While we initially expected the 2021 model year to deliver a midcycle enhancement in the form of interior improvements and freshened exterior design, such is not the case, and the 2021 model goes mostly unchanged.
