The Cadillac CT8 is believed to be an upcoming car from General Motors’ Cadillac division.
Following is speculative and unconfirmed information about the Cadillac CT8. This page is a continuous work-in-progress and will be updated on a regular basis as we await official details from General Motors and Cadillac.
If you notice any inaccuracies about the information provided, please let us know here.
The Cadillac CT8 is expected to be a four-door, extended-length, prestige-luxury sedan that slots above the CT6.
We expect that the CT8 will be based on the underlying Omega platform of the Cadillac CT6 while featuring a longer wheelbase for more rear-seat room as well as an increased amount of luxury amenities in the cabin, especially for rear-seat passengers.
We initially expected the vehicle to become available in the vicinity of the year 2018. However, reports in April of 2016 stated that the CT8 has been canceled.
For its part, Cadillac has not confirmed the CT8, its development, or its reported cancellation.
It’s worth noting that it is highly possible that development of the CT8 wasn’t cancelled, but rather delayed to focus development resources on crossovers — a type of a vehicle that Cadillac lacks in a market hot for crossovers.
The CT8 name is the result of Cadillac’s new naming scheme, wherein the brand names all cars (sedans, coupes, wagons) with the CT moniker, followed by a number designating its “sequence” in the lineup. Similarly, Cadillac crossovers and SUVS will be named XT followed by a number identifying its sequence in the vehicle hierarchy.
General Motors filed a trademark application for the CT8 name with the Untied States Patent and Trademark Office on November 7th, 2014.
We expect the Cadillac CT8 to ride on GM’s Omega platform.
We expect the Cadillac CT8 to be powered by the upcoming Cadillac-exclusive eight-cylinder engine mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The motor is expected to feature a dual overhead cam design, displace 4.2 liters and feature two turbos.
Based on our expectation that the Cadillac CT8 will be an extended-length variant of the CT6 with more luxury amenities, its competitors will be extended-length full-size prestige-luxury sedans, including:
- BMW 7 Series “L” Extended-Wheelbase
- Mercedes-Benz S-Class Extended Wheelbase
- Audi A8L/S8L
- Lexus LS “L”
- Maserati Quattroporte
- Jaguar XJ “L”
A range-topping configuration of the CT8 could also compete with the Mercedes-Maybach S600.
We expect the Cadillac CT8 to be available exclusively as a four-door sedan. A coupe and convertible variant are highly unlikely for the model; instead, the CT6 is much more likely to have coupe/convertible variants.
