Chevy Silverado Sales Increase 4 Percent To 54,448 Units In August 2017

Chevrolet Silverado sales increased in the United States and in Canada in August 2017.

In the United States, Chevrolet Silverado deliveries totaled 54,448 units in August 2017, an increase of about 4 percent compared to 52,408 units sold in August 2016.

In the first eight months of the year, Silverado sales decreased about 4 percent to 363,354 units.

Chevrolet Silverado Sales - August 2017 - Canada

In Canada, Chevrolet Silverado deliveries totaled 6,856 units in August 2017, an increase of about 62 percent compared to 4,241 units sold in August 2016.

In the first eight months of the year, Silverado sales increased about 29 percent to 39,941 units.

The GM Authority Take

After several down months, Silverado sales rebounded in August, enabling it to maintain its second place position in terms of overall sales volume among its segment. First place went to the Ford F-Series, whose 15 percent growth rate also outpaced that of the Silverado’s 4 percent sales increase.

The Ram Pickup came in third with 37,608 deliveries (down 6.6 percent) and the Silverado’s twin — the GMC Sierra — took fourth with 17,254 units (down 1.28 percent). The Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan brought up the bottom in fifth and sixth place, respectively delivering 10,320 and 3,521 units.

Overall, the full-size mainstream pickup truck segment grew roughly 6 percent in August, with the F-Series, Silverado, Tundra and Titan posting sales gains during the month. In the first eight months of 2017, sales of the segment have increased 4 percent to 1,510,111 units, with the Silverado trailing the F-Series by nearly 213,000 units.

Based on the GM K2 platform, the 2018 Chevy Silverado represents the fifth model year of the third-generation Silverado. Though the vehicle continues to sell relatively well, it is becoming less competitive in the marketplace when compared to its primary rivals such as the Ford F-Series, since it lacks features such as turbocharged engines, a rugged off-road variant such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, a diesel engine option in the light duty (1500) model, and also various modern features and equipment.
