Chevrolet and General Motors can try to trick our eyes as much as they’d like, but we know this isn’t a Ram or Ford. This is, in fact, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 frolicking about in the snow.
Previously, engineers tried to fool wandering eyes into thinking the Silverado prototype, was in fact, a Ford F-150. This time, it’s even more evident with a pseudo Ram grille and a fake Ford oval up front.
However, this time we get a full look at the 2019 Silverado in half-tone guise. We can see LED lighting treatments up front and angular, dual-exhaust pipes at the rear. There are also some pretty large grab handles on the A-pillars.
It’s still quite early to gather specifics on the 2019 Silverado, but expect a host of improvements for the next generation of Chevrolet’s meal ticket. That includes plenty of aluminum to bring down weight and improve fuel efficiency from whatever powertrains find their way under the hood.
The 2019 Silverado will also have a cousin in the 2019 GMC Sierra.

I’m not entirely convinced that’s a chevy. The shocks are right out at the corners like the ford, and looking at the transmission support, has the little scoop looing piece hanging down like ford has had forever. Based on the bumper step covers on the cladding it has chevy potential, and I really like the exhaust, so I hope it is and that makes it to production.
The only thing you need to look at to know it is a Chevy is the shape of the wheel wells. Both Ford and Ram use round wheel wells. The GM’s have had the squared off look for a while now. It’s the thing everyone complains about.
The exhaust is very similar to the Silverado ZR2 concept from a few years back.
They better have a V6 Turbo to run with the volume selling 3.5EB from Ford. If they think the 5.3L can continue to be the volume engine, guess again. It’s getting eaten for lunch by the 3.5EB and Hemi. And we all know the 6.2L (whichever version) will be limited to top line trims again. GM has one chance to stop the truck sales slide and carrying over the powertrains and just putting a new body on top won’t do it.
I’m a 20 yr automotive sales industry guy with 16 of them at a GM dealership and I can tell you the reason why GM guys walk away from GM is due to power train mostly. The volume 5.3L is just underpowered compared to competition. Even the 5.0L from Ford kicks the 5.3L.
My biggest fear is that GM is just going to put lipstick over a pig and try and jam it down our throats as a new truck. They have a habit of doing that. The current truck was supposed to be “all new” until you look under the skin at the same frame and chassis as the 2013 and older with a couple simple tweaks (electric steering, etc).
And for heavens sakes e-coat the frames already and throw that garbage wax coating where it belongs – scrap heap.
You make some great points. After a LOT of shopping and soul searching I bought a Ram 1500 4×4 Crew Cab at the end of Dec. Mind you I am a GM employee but I got a FAR better deal on the Ram than any comparable GM truck and I much prefer the styling and features. As for powertrain I just cannot say enough about that 5.7 Hemi and the ZF 8 speed with the 3.92 rear. What a powertrain! GM didn’t even mention pickups at all in this years earnings call, what’s up with that?
I’LL tell you what, my 2001GMC Serria with the 5.3 engine has 320,000 miles on her & purrs like a kitten I’ll be dammed any Ford engine could last that long & for one thing pickups are not built to speed but to WORK, period! you want speed buy a sports car, you want grunt work buy a truck!, I would jump in mine and drive across country & not worry about it!
I traded my 2000 Silverado LT with a 5.3 liter that had 429k trouble-free miles on it for the 2016 High Country with the 6.2. I hope it is as reliable and lasts as long as the 2000.
cdnsolman, dpach,Edward M Pate and Andrew …..that I agree with y’all guy 1000 percent for the fact because I see the concerns on people face and buyers for years I’m glad that y’all made one of the biggest Point in truck history
Ram is like a drug it is a temporary fix for a tight wallet till you sober up and find you payed less so you get less quality and then less trade in. Dodge and Ram repeat buyers have been around 25%. Also ther is a ton of fleer sales there.
Ford is doing well as they have a decent truck but they also have a sold buyer base as like GM.
GM numbers are down but they have killed a ton o fleet sales. Ford kept with fleets but ther is little money there. Ford makes money on the volume but it us a lot of work and little return.
GMs new trucks will see a mix of materials. GM delayed the aluminum till they perfected the new welding process of steel to aluminum. This will give them a great advantage in cost savings as well as putting steel bed floors welded to aluminum bed sides. This is why Chevy made a big deal on bed holes on the Ford.
I expect the GMC to continue to move apart in style and offerings.
The real question is engines. The 8 is good but the V6 is rough and while a good engine it is crude compared to others. Ford has proved people will buy a turbo and pay more for it so GM needs one but not the 4.3.
Look for the DOHC V8 in the new truck. It will be needed for the cleaner emissions.
The truck here I would say is a GMC Denali due to the exhaust. That is you upscale for the .Chevy.
Right now I am actively looking into a ZR2 Colorado. I do not want or need a full size. I had looked at the Z71 but for a little more the ZR2 is a better value the way they have it priced. Also the softer suspension provides a better ride.
GM is really cutting into the mid size market and will continue to increase it. They have a ton of conquest sales as well as bringing many Sonoma owners like myself back as the last Colorado sucked. They did take a few full size sales but not many.
As for Ram FCA has a great debt and Sergio who was banking on 400k Alfa sales globally by next year has failed. He also predicted 150k sales in N America. Alfa did double sales from Nov to Dec from 23 cars to 54. Jeep is not going to fix all their issues and as their truck fall behind even discounted prices will not solve their debt problems.
I have a 2016 Silverado High Country with the 6.2 liter engine and 8 speed transmission. Now THAT is a powertrain. That engine is beastly. I have tuned it with a Hypertech, and the response and transmission shifting is a lot better than stock. I would not trade it for a 3.5 liter Eco-boost.
When I was shopping for a new truck in ’14. Before I purchased my Silverado. I was hell bent on a Ram. I drove 3 or 4. In no way were they anywhere near the quality of the Silverado. Interiors alone were night and day.
Personally I can’t wait to se the new Silverado.
What I like about chevy small blocks is there are a ton of aftermarket parts, yes GM does run their powertrains very conservative but it isn’t such a drastic difference from other V8’s. I know some trucks are still under warranty’s but a quick ecu flash to lower the torque management and a mid range performance cam and maybe some performance heads and a less restrictive exhaust and you have a 70+ horsepower gain easy and that’s being conservative.
On the other note, I do wish that the 6.2 was an option on other trims rather than the high country and Denali like a couple grand upscaled price.
I just hope gm adds rear ac/heater vents in the rear seat on crew cabs. I have a 14 silverado 5.3, and love the truck but more then 2 people while living here in the south is a torture. When comes to powertrain, the 5.3 and 6.2 are good once you’re use to them, just need to add modes to the truck where you can cut off v4 mode if you’re towing or just don’t want it on. On mpgs I personally didnt buy the truck to get good mpgs but I’m getting on Highway running 65 mph 23 mpg, city only 18 mpg
GM, GM, … listen PLEASE. I am a long, long, long, long term GM buyer (since 1964). I currently drive a 2012 GMC Sierra (among other GM’S), and want a new truck – NOT buying one. REASON: … flat fender wheels. I dislike them very much, and so do many other folks. INFORMATION for you. THANKS, e.e.
What do you mean by “flat fender wheels”? Among many things I don’t care for are the rectangular wheel openings. Ended up buying a 2017 Ram and so far loving it.
GM, GM, …. also, give the ‘HIGH SELLING ENGINE’ near 385-400 horsepower, plus appropriate torque, …… needs to be BETTER than F, R, T, N offerings. THANKS, e.e.
PATE, ….. “FLAT FENDER WHEELS”, …… ooops, I meant WELLS. Yes, rectangular wheel openings – dislike them. ROUND TIRE/WHEEL, with rectangular opening, not so good. Just my opinion, but my opinion spends my money. THANKS FOR CORRECTING ME. e.e.
Dang I just hope they at least start powder coating the frame so people can stop making stupid you tube videos an complain ing
Edward m your stupid decision who cares about a RAM or a Ford come on
Well since Ram is currently outselling Chevy I guess a lot of folks. My point is I had a decision to make and even though I am a GM employee choosing the Ram was pretty simple. I’ve had Silverado’s and Sierra’s to drive and like the Ram far better. Better features at a far better price. Ford, no interest there for me.
It outsold it for a month and they offer 15,000-20,000 off msrp. To say it is a better truck is a preference and for me knowing Dodge over the years even hear lately, dependability has always been a major factor for me. Other than that I like them ( Rams, Jeep Wranglers, Challenger and Charger)
