2019 Chevrolet Silverado Spotted Donning Ford-Esque Camouflage

It seems the camouflage department tried to pull a fast one on spy photographers at large, but we know exactly what we’re looking at. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was spotted being unloaded off a trailer at a General Motors testing facility still wrapped in plenty of cover.
The camo itself looks strikingly similar to a Ford F-150, which is ironic in itself since Chevrolet will utilize plenty of aluminum in its next generation of full-size pickup trucks.
We can’t tell much from the spy shots, but the profile and size of the Silverado looks fairly similar to the current truck. That’s not much of a surprise knowing the 1500 likely can’t grow much larger before stepping in the Silverado HD‘s territory.
We can also see sidesteps present at the rear bumper and similar, squared off wheel wells, but the overall design is largely skewed by the camo.
The current generation of Silverado went on sale in 2013, making it the oldest truck on the market currently. The Silverado did receive a substantial refresh for 2016, but there’s no hiding its true age. Still, we have some time to wait before the 2019 Silverado does show face.

What I’d like to see
-Multimetal a la CT6
-Longer cab, whether you lose hood length or bed to achieve
-adjusted bed length if cab is elongated
-10spd optional, 8spd standard
-more engines – turbo 6, midsize (3.0-4.0L) diesel
-autotrac available on lower end models, standard on higher
-G80 mechanical auto locker standard, eDiff option
-different interior for top trim levels (like how the LTZ & Denali was the Tahoe interior for the 2008-2013 trucks)
-be ballsy, less appearance package and more limited production truck = SS, offroader
-power rear sliding window
-bed accessories, primarily a waterproof tonneau
-active aero
-dual zone climate control
I dunno, other can add more to my list
I hope they add a better diesel option than the competition offers, maybe even resurrect the old V8 diesel project. The truck market is so competitive I think GM cannot afford to lag behind in any way once these new trucks come out.
oh and a hybrid with full electric capability. imagine even just 30 miles of pure electric.
All that plus an optional manual transmission.
Didn’t I say “optional”? Don’t want it. Don’t buy it. Nobody would be forcing you to get one!
They have dual zone climate and power rear sliding window now.
I would also like to see a lower valence under the bumper that is either very easy to remove (a minute or so) or power retractable so a Z71 can actually be an off-road truck.
I think a turbo version of the new 3.6L could be achieved quite easily.
Dual zone front + rear control
And the current power window is a crap little pocket, it’s like have just a section of a door window open/close.
Okay, so I almost completely agree with you. I agree they need a diesel but they need a V8 Duramax with an allison transmission, 4×4 in a off road package would be the only way to go with this truck, No turbo 6, to be truthful no V6 at all just V8 and diesels only. (Sorry not a fan of anything less than a V8. This is a truck not an Accord or Camry. Unless, of course, they do an inline-6 turbo then that would be cool.) I do feel they should have a nasty SS model as well with a modified 475hp 6.2L LT1 small block V8, 10-speed auto, All wheel drive, hot colors, cowl hood, smooth bed cover with an integrated spoiler, lowered suspension, gigantic-enormous Brembo brakes, eDiff, Recaro seats, alcantara/leather interior, race-inspired steering wheel, navigation, premium stereo, factory HID/LED lighting, a full size cab (4-doors), power sliding rear window, privacy glass all around and a set of 22″ machined and black SS wheels.
Sean,
You said: “That’s not much of a surprise knowing the 1500 likely can’t grow much larger before stepping in the Silverado HD‘s territory.”
The bodies of both trucks are virtually identical in size. Height and ground clearance is they only dimension that differs by more than a 1/2 inch. http://www.gmfleet.com will confirm such.
Other observations…
There are two different trucks here. White letter tires and black wall tires.
Exhaust tips are integrated on the second mule. One the first, they clearly hang underneath.
The two current gen trucks are different. One is a 1500 while the other a 2500 or 3500 (6 lug vs 8 lug)
Engines: The exhaust suggest gas. My dmax doesn’t emit any visible vapor, even on the coldest days. No visible venturis on the pipe.
I think the more rounded wheel openings, door dip and tail lights are all part of the camo.
I am disappointed. The square wheel wells are still here.
As they should be.
How ’bout a Twin Turbo 4.3L and call it the Syclone engine option. I don’t know if the new 4.3L was designed with boost in mind, but wouldn’t that be the ultimate poop in the face for Ford.
not really one for turbo V6 ideas but GM did have a few very nasty turbo V6 vehicles, Cyclone, Typhoon, Grand National, GNX, & Regal T-type. That might be a good idea. just hope it sounds better than that crap Ford calls a Raptor
Ram 1500 is actually the oldest pickup in the market. It hasn’t had a total revamp since the 2009 model year.
i know you’re likely just talking full size light duty, but isn’t the Frontier from like 2001? And it’s barely had any refreshes, at least not to the scale the Ram has had
For the love of god, get rid of those squared off wheel wells. It’s not cool to be able to see clear under the truck when it’s parked. It looks like a 3rd world project where they didn’t have sheet metal bending capabilities. And just sayin, wheels are actually round. A pity because the rest of the truck is great.
I like them. Sets our truck apart from every other.
isn’t the new suburban and Tahoe going to be on the new plate form 2
Yes these suburban and Tahoe will be on these new chassis.
It would be nice to see an actual console shifter. Seat controls up on the door instead of reaching down between the seat and door. Also a full panoramic sunroof like fords. And have a regular plastic spoiler. Not those dam mesh bug catchers that make the most annoying whistling noise. Then there is the back seat. Go climb in a tundra crewman. Best back seat in the business. There is no B pillar that you have to twist your feet by to get out. GM needs to fix that. Now for a rear power sliding window. Not a piece of it. The whole thing. You’ve done it before with the hummer H2. And the tundra has it. It’s a great feature. And last but not least. A good strong fuel efficient Diesel engine finally !!!!
Diesel engine only out of your list
I love the column shifter with the tow/haul controls. If you’re using a truck in place of a minivan, sure get rid of the column shifter because once it’s in drive youre not using it again for the trip.
Debut at 2018 NAIAS???? Any thoughts or anyone know?
Or Texas State Fair
Those are much larger rear crew cab doors! I’m expecting large increase in rear leg and cargo room, likely with a flat cargo floor.
I would love to see a SS option on the Chevy/GMC trucks, a street performance package, both Silverado and Colorado series. With the SS option it MUST have more hp over the non-SS trucks otherwise what’s the point. AWD would be great too. I’m not a customer that’s interested in the ZR2 trucks, not into the mile high thing as many are. Oh, one more thing, no black wheels, please.
I understand you are taking away the steel bed and replacing it with the same thing Ford is Cary if that’s the case then why should I buy a GM or Chevy when I can get the same thing at a for it I like my steel bed I need it Holly got a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 heavy duty and I packed it for a brick mortar and anything else I’ve done at it and it has very few dents you can’t say that about a Ford and I don’t care for Chrysler
I will not purchase another Chevy pickup til they make one with a floor shifter! Cannot believe I can buy any other Chevy vehicle with one but not a truck! Get with the times Gm
