Opel Officially Teases 2016 Astra, Will Debut In Frankfurt

After countless sightings of the upcoming 2016 Opel Astra, Opel has officially offered up a teaser for the upcoming compact car. Although, unlike a traditional dark, low light image, the 2016 Astra still keeps the camouflage cladding, standing next to Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.

Opel also revealed the 2016 Astra will make its official debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show this September, where we the Astra will finally show its new face, supposedly heavily inspired by the 2013 Opel Monza concept. Dr. Neumann promises an “awesome design” with the highest efficiency, and an abundance of innovation to adorn the 2016 Astra.

Dr. Neumann also says the 2016 Astra was approached with a blank sheet, a time to revolutionize the Astra for a much more efficient overall package. Exterior footprint shrinks, yet interior space is said to grow. The engineering team says countless pounds have been shaved off the 2016 Astra’s mass. New state-of-the-art powertrains will debut alongside the Astra. This is going to be a big car for Opel, who is still in the pursuit of turning a profit.

“Each generation has raised the bar in safety, comfort and efficiency. The new Astra will once again set standards in the compact class. Amongst others, it will be the first new Opel model to be launched with Opel OnStar’s unique connected service that is ready to help and rescue you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” said Dr. Neumann.

Stay tuned as Opel parses out more information on the upcoming 2016 Astra through the summer leading to the Frankfurt Motor Show.
